The Home Office and hotel owners Somani have won the second part of the appeal, which was against the granting of the interim injunction

That means the injunction has been quashed and asylum seekers do not have to be moved out by 12 September. The full case will be heard in October

As predicted. Well I look forward to Nigel’s “the Court of Appeal” are the enemies of the people presser on Monday.

So common sense prevails and the protesters can go home for September.

PandoraSocks · 29/08/2025 14:41

I hope there is no trouble at the hotel.

Interesting appointment. Would be the most high-profile No 10 economic adviser in a very long time.

Seems sensible to me to have an economist as advisor.
be even better if he’s good at comms alongside the number crunching!

Lol blossomtoes @ “phonecalls about tar melting”

Nowadays it’s all about the potholes!

Thank goodness was common sense has prevailed.

However I’m fearful for the asylum seekers and the police who are going to have to deal with the protests even longer. I honestly would prefer a week of nice weather to end my summer holiday but I actually hope for storms that don’t let up to keep these vigilantes away.

Don’t they have jobs to go to?!

PandoraSocks · 29/08/2025 14:58

There are some very pissed off Mumsnetters right now who are claiming the decision will help Reform. And suggestions of corruption on the part of the appeal judges are beginning to creep in.

What already? That didn’t take long.

Farage's response and some unhinged comments.

Aren’t they one and the same?

I like the suggestion that he emigrates to the US. Can we have a whip round to pay his fare?

I thought they used drones for roof inspections now.

I had that done and it's fantastic to watch. Works starting week beginning 8th September.

i've read the judgement. It seemed pretty withering to me.

Remarkable that the hotel has been used for asylum seekers since mid 2020 and there was so little resistance from the Conservatives then.

Because their members are trousering the mullah.

E2A: You can bet your life Farage and Tice and all the landlord classes are having a host of "special" moments over the idea that the places to house asylum seekers may be restricted, thus allowing them to raise the prices at the even shittier hotels they haven't invested in where they can whip up the mob to rinse and repeat and further make more money out of a long rinsed taxpayer.

Feel free (as always) to check my working.

Just caught up. Westminster Abbey went brilliantly. Was nice to get away from news and such and focus on producing something beautiful in a gorgeous setting. I confess to having had ‘a moment’ as we processed past the Unknown Warrior on the way in. Such an iconic building.

itsgettingweird · 29/08/2025 16:05

They shouldn’t need to acquisition more hotels and look at the contracts for use? I thought numbers in hotels had reduced and obviously the plan is to reduce further?

Notonthestairs · 29/08/2025 16:09

Frustrating to see, once again, the failure of the media to faithfully outline a judgement, what it is intended to achieve and why.

I would suggest that 'they' aren't capable of following it but we know that isn't the case - instead there is an active choice to misrepresent findings.

Just back from a day out in IKEA with a 45 year old friend who had never been before. Well planned in advance and we only wanted to view the options for storage - me, and an open plan wardrobe - friend. She just loved it and was okay for the very long wait for the restaurant. Great day out!

@dontcallmelen very sorry to hear of the loss of your brother 💐. Friend lost her brother very unexpectedly and suddenly back in February and it was a terrible shock for all the family. Take care.

For now, yes.

But Farages thinking is when he gets to be PM and throws open the borders, all those arrivals will need to be housed somewhere. And with the UKs opaque property ownership and transfer system who knows what grubby deals are being done to snap up slum suitable properties. I mean Farage has even got his supporters to mark them out with flags for him.
