Also from the Times

"The numbers arriving so far this month have been the lowest in August since 2021"

(mentioned in the 24th paragraph of its front-page splash)

Possibly due to all the anti migrant stuff and racism here? deals and changes in law not yet done.

I know its been reported in France, as i got a text asking me "what he heck is happening in uk, you sound like you want RN in power"

Nothing in for breakfast here, so off to M and S.

We are going to need a new thread soon.

Well that's interesting as quite often good weather is cited as a reason for increased crossings and the weather in August couldn't have been more conducive.

We are not very good at considering that there are some of our fellows who are racist. And they are now very loud. It is summer and the racists are flying. Second year. Wonder if it’s going to be an annual thing like Wimbledon or Henley.

On roundabouts, in Yorkshire someone has taken to painting a white rose on them. It is beautiful work. I am not sure of the actual symbolism, but you can’t fault the work. It doesn’t surprise me that Yorkshire folk should however out do the rest of the country in the new category of roundabout art.

Well if we are going to regress, at some point we need to relive the Wars of the Roses. And (presumably) the 100 years war ? The Anarchy ? The Norman Invasion ? The Danes ? The Saxon Shore ?

It was very hit and miss, but there was a germ of some sort of truth in Rob Newmans "History of the World Backwards". I wonder if it stands up better today ?

The white rose of York goes back to the 14th century.
Lancastrians were represented by the red rose.

It certainly has filled up quickly for August. I vote for magic roundabouts, especially those displaying the Danish flag.

I feel like LDs (and Greens , obviously) are the only people who now speak freely.

Shame they don’t get the same exposure as that lying grifting morally bankrupt craven self publicist fuckwit Farage I’m beyond incensed at the coverage he received yesterday.
on a happier note I did a 45minute journey on a bus through south east London yesterday did not see any flags or painted roundabouts cheered me no end .

Notonthestairs · 27/08/2025 09:38

I had a Magic Roundabout lampshade until I was 19.

Yep a party with 4 MPs, 4 years out from a GE, is calling the media shots...

Eventually the media will get bored. The only way back will be Farage on Strictly 2028.

dontcallmelen · 27/08/2025 10:00

Rain forecast here for the rest of week with possible thunder & lightning at the weekend, tis very dark here this morning Evenstar such a lovely pond enjoy.
itsgettingweird poor Ds his foot looks very sore hope it heals quickly.
enjoyed the chat about Concorde we lived very near the south circular used to fly over quite regularly dd would rush out into the front garden every time it flew over we were reminiscing on Sunday.

I don't know about that, Jane. The media has been obsessed with Farage for over a decade now.

One can only hope the consequences of his smoking and drinking kick in soon and save us from the odious wretch.

I've reached my fill with listening to the crap Frogface comes out with. Yesterday I couldn't even be bothered listening or reading what he had to say as it was bound to be more shit-stirring garbage. I seem to be developing a Farage-filter.

itsgettingweird · 27/08/2025 10:08

We have thunder and lightning forecast from 1pm today 🫣

I’m meeting a friend for lunch a mere 12 minutes walk away down the main road my road is off. I’ve already text her not to judge me for driving (she’s 5 miles away) but I’m not even going to be able to use my trusted umbrella to get home if it does come 😂

Then have a garden party for a friend’s DDs 21st later. I hope she has a contingency plan!

itsgettingweird · 27/08/2025 10:11

The problem I have with the media feeding Farage is that his sole intention is to disrupt. He doesn’t expect to get into government and wouldn’t have a clue what to do if he did. I’m hoping there’s no chance he will because they can’t keep their MPs and councillors for longer than 5 minutes anyway!

But they give him the platform to disrupt and actually give false hope to those who feel disenfranchised. He knows the disenfranchised are an easy target and he’s getting them to do his bidding for him with an empty promise of things he cannot deliver.

How will these people feel when we live in a Russian type country? Life will ultimately become worse for them.

BIossomtoes · 27/08/2025 10:11

The sun’s out here. We aren’t scheduled for rain until early evening.

When I was at the shops earlier I saw one of the tabloids (possibly the Mail) had the headline At Last, a Politician Who Gets It

🙄

He needs to be Mr. Brexit. Every. Single. Day. That was his last good idea.
