Nothing can be proposed in any talks about Ukraine without Ukraine being present. Putin MUST NOT be allowed to keep the territory he has taken by force. It will encourage other nations to do the same.

I agree with you that something has been discussed, but there have been so many red herrings it is very difficult to work out what.

Is Trump trying to force Ukraine to allow Putin to keep the Donbas and Crimea.?

Has he made a deal with Putin over those areas? There are thousands of developers and architects without the land to develop.

I may be wrong, but if you will allow me to explain why I think that.

Trump previously wanted to redevelop Gaza. It didn't go down very well at all.

Trump made a deal with Putin to protect American shipping in the Black Sea: why? There had to be a reason. Either transporting minerals from mines, or development companies to and from Crimea.

Putin controls Ukrainian exports and imports. African governments had to beg Putin to allow grain to be exported from Ukraine. If he is allowed to keep land, Ukraine will lose almost all it's coast to Russia, maybe all, if Russia continues to attack Odesa.

Trump withheld weapons and security from Ukraine, making her even more vulnerable. Ukraine had to give America mining rights to secure more weapons for their defence.

Trump is hedging his bets. ' Heads I win, tails you lose.'

He can persuade Ukraine to allow Putin to keep the land he invaded, and finish the deal with Putin for mining rights and redevelop Crimea. That will not happen within his term, but he will cash in as a businessman and his company will have the redevelopment rights after he is no longer President.

OR

He can back Ukraine to recover the territory and send American weapons direct to Ukraine (instead of via Europe)to make peace, on the condition that America will have all the mining rights to Ukraine minerals until the mines run out. Most likely, after his term of office ends, it will be an American company who will profit from it.

I don’t see Putin being ready to settle for anything less than his red line, which is the land they already control + some they don’t for an easier foothold for the next invasion. So it’s difficult to see what deal could be on the table.

He has lapses of memory. I wish the BBC would repeat the scenario of the meeting with President Zelenskyy. It was all Vance. Since then, Vance has been pretty much out of the picture, apart from visiting outposts where American military bases are.

The news that President Zelenskyy will not be alone tomorrow is heartening. It should surely tell Trump he was out of order that first time.

Putin regards Ukraine as Russian. It isn't. Ukraine is a sovereign nation.

If Putin thinks he has that claim, then he should prove it. He has threatened to retaliate if any foreign nation puts military boots on Ukrainian soil, because he claims they would be invading Russia. Wouldn't he have to PROVE it was Russian soil before attacking another country?

If an EU country or UK was to send troops into Ukraine for protection, under what law would Putin be able to attack that country? He would first have to prove they were attacking Russia. How would he do that?

He might want Ukraine for a new USSR, but that is in his twisted mind. If he invaded a NATO country because they went to the aid of Ukraine, surely other NATO members would be in their rights to fight back, because no one would have invaded Russia UNLESS stupid Trump gave Putin the Donbas and Crimea. That is serious.

The White House has released the timings for the day’s events in Washington DC.

Donald Trump is to hold a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy at 1.15pm (5.15pm GMT) on Monday at the White House.

Trump will then participate in a multilateral meeting with European leaders visiting Washington at 3pm (7pm GMT).

I think it’ll be fine so long as there isn’t the press spray in the Oval Office beforehand. It’s when Trump is on media performance mode that things tend to go south.

At the press conference following the summit, NBC News White House correspondent Peter Alexander reported that what struck him was “the looks on the faces of a lot of the American delegation here. Karoline Leavitt…, Steve Witkoff, who came into the room, then left quickly, then came back in. Leavitt appeared to be a bit stressed out, anxious. Their eyes were wide, almost ashen at times.”

Going to be a lot of pressure on Zelenskyy again - hopefully not a repeat of the last shitshow JD and Orange put out there last time - but guess they hope to browbeat him and fait accompli the rest after so who knows - it is a worry 😞

I think the other leaders being there will help massively.

I think that if Zelenskyy had gone by himself then we’d be looking at round 2 of the February meeting, with Zelenskyy almost forced to ‘make a deal’ and give Putin the Donbas, and whatever else they’ve cooked up, and very much pushed the narrative of Zelenskyy wanting to carry on with the war if he didn’t agree.

But Trump & Vance are now fairly significantly outnumbered so I don’t think that they can try the same trick.

It’s absolutely nuts that Zelenskyy is being asked to ‘make a deal’ at all. Putin is the aggressor, he’s taken a load of land that isn’t his, the only deal being made should be that Putin gives back everything he’s taken and goes away.

Trump just wants Vance there so it can be two against one. He’s a coward.
