Did anyone see it? Northbound between Oxford and Cherwell Valley at around 1330?

traffic stopped, entrance blocked, loads of motorbikes, black SUV’s, Black range rovers all with blacked out windows, about 30 vehicles, plus a helicopter.

Wonder who it was for? I assumed Royalty but I’ve seen them before in London and on motorways and the entourage was nothing like this, no helicopter either.

What's wrong with using a helicopter like the royals? Why is the odious JDV littering up our roads? Good luck with your massive motorcade touring the narrow, rolling English roads of the Cotswolds. Tractors at the ready please.-

Where's Clarkson and his combine harvester when you need him?

The muck spreader would be preferable.

thatsthatsaidthemayor · 11/08/2025 00:05

I saw this. It was insane!

Yogaandchocolate · 11/08/2025 00:05

GCAcademic · 10/08/2025 20:32

Ridiculous. Why does one of the vehicles appear to be towing a kebab van? Classy.

I believe it has sensors to detect incoming attacks (I saw a motorcade in DC and asked someone)

Marvellous idea. I bet Clarkson has a large one full of shit.

softlyfallsthesnow · 11/08/2025 00:13

I hope he's not going to Chipping Campden tomorrow. That'd ruin the high street and my lunch.

southends · 11/08/2025 00:33

When I become an International Person of Importance or whatever it is I intend to model my motorcade on our local carnival with a classic car at the front, followed by three separate troupes of majorettes, the local panto society, Morris dancers, aerobics club, and a giant inflatable life boat.

It’s amazing what you learn on here! And brilliant that the American version of Q thought to disguise this technology as a kebab van!

Summershereatlastt · 11/08/2025 01:19

@menopausalmare I would have liked to have seen that. I’m from Stanwell and was down visiting last weekend. Trying to picture that through Ashford high street etc.

TheFormidableMrsC · 11/08/2025 01:19

Honestly, not even the Queen was this precious. Years ago, I was driving down the Finchley Road to Swiss Cottage in London. Suddenly a motorcade appeared behind with police outriders. There was nowhere for them to go but also sit in the traffic with lights flashing. I glanced to my left only to see the Queen sitting in the back of a limo looking straight ahead. She neither moved or looked round. Must have taken 10 mins for things to start to move. It was amazing to see. There was none of this helicopter nonsense or the Men in Black shite 🙄

I was surprised to see just how tiny when (as I later discovered) King Charles went by recently!

Following on from my post about seeing the Queen, my work offices were at the junction of Charlotte Road in EC2. The Prince’s Trust HQ was next door (now the King’s Trust). Charles would regularly rock up but there was no fuss at all and we only knew because there would be armed people on the roof of the building opposite. Occasionally we would have to deal with a road closure but were given plenty of notice. He literally had his car and some outriders but I’d say it was minimal considering his status.

I live in Charlbury, so glad I am on holiday. We just had Wilderness which was bad enough. Soho Farmhouse told Steve Jobs sorry no, too demanding, so he went trotting to Estelle for his daughters wedding. Poor soul. You have to laugh at them. Name changing now!!

Steve Jobs is dead and has been for some years now so how did he manage that.

Soho Farm weren’t even asked. They wanted Estelle Manor. It is much smarter.

This is excellent!!

Maybe you could also, carnival style, have volunteers walking alongside rattling buckets and urging onlookers to give generously.

Considering how many millions the cost of all of this immense security for the panjandrums runs to, every handful of grubby coppers would help!

Err... I was referring to his rather outsize motorcade and its effect on a beautiful Cotswold street.

What were you assuming?

GenieGenealogy · 10/08/2025 17:49

No - when Trump was in Scotland earlier in the month he had a massive motorcade of umpteen cars too. And cost the Scottish tax payer £5 million in policing.

I think it's supposed to be reciprocal, so if the King or Starmer went to the US, their security would be funded by the US taxpayer. It's just that Starmer and the King don't travel with so much entourage so it's not an even deal.

But Trump’s visit was a state visit - like him or loathe him he came in his capacity as head of state. Vance is on a private six week holiday, I don’t see why we should be paying the cost of locking down the Cotswolds for six weeks because Vance wants to go fishing in the Cotswolds. The area has regular visits from the very rich and famous, including foreign politicians and doesn’t lock down like this for private visits.

Vance is a hard line isolationist, always has been. Its one of the few things he has been consistent on through his career. He doesn’t give a shit about the UK or Europe in general and that isn’t going to change because the UK taxpayer turns the Cotswolds into a fortress and shuts down major tourist attractions (with loss of revenue) whilst he swans around on holiday.

Trump shoe horned work into his recent visit to Scotland when it was actually about opening his new golf course. By throwing a few meetings in, it meant he got to use the American tax payer to pay for his travel and expenses. And Scotland to pay for his protection.
