Did anyone see it? Northbound between Oxford and Cherwell Valley at around 1330?

traffic stopped, entrance blocked, loads of motorbikes, black SUV’s, Black range rovers all with blacked out windows, about 30 vehicles, plus a helicopter.

Wonder who it was for? I assumed Royalty but I’ve seen them before in London and on motorways and the entourage was nothing like this, no helicopter either.

Do you really want dozens of trigger happy Americans roaming around the Cotswolds?

Some years ago I had meetings with a delegation from a middle Eastern country. There were 6 or 7 delegates, escorted by a translator and a couple of UK FCO officials. One of the 'delegates' was clearly the armed bodyguard for the others - didn't speak with us, eyes everywhere, bulge where his gun was - whilst the others were as friendly and chatty as it's possible to be. So overseas dignitaries do have armed guards with them (from their own country).

Ridiculous. Why does one of the vehicles appear to be towing a kebab van? Classy.

The thing that gets me from this video is the 4 or 5 ambulances following on ‘ in case of incident’. Yet people are lying on floors for up to 19 hours for one 😡

Gonners · 10/08/2025 21:25

There will be others around that you won't have noticed. In the crowd. Possibly on rooftops.

Was there a crowd, though?

Fucking Vance & his holiday parade to the Cotswolds

Because he is (presumably) categorised as an Internationally Protected Person, and we do not allow armed private security in this country. This was at the crux of Prince Harry’s legal case against the U.K. government (he does not have that status).

The internet says this:

If a Vice President is representing their country in an official capacity, such as attending an international conference or engaging in diplomatic talks, they might be considered an "Internationally Protected Person" during that specific time and place, according to the United Nations.

Vice presidents are not automatically considered "Internationally Protected Persons" under international law, but they can be if they are fulfilling specific roles or missions that grant them such status. The term "Internationally Protected Person" typically refers to heads of state, heads of government, foreign ministers, and their accompanying family members when traveling outside their own country. Additionally, it includes other representatives, officials, or agents of a government or international organization who are entitled to special protection under international law. While vice presidents are often afforded high levels of security, this is usually due to national laws and practices rather than international law automatically designating them as such, according to the United States Secret Service.

I thought it looked like one of those vehicles they use to transport felons - I assumed that's where they were keeping Trump.

The late Queen definitely travelled with significantly less, even when her route and destination was publicly known ahead of time.

The late Queen had Major Johnny. What more did she need?

(Image pending)

I'd much prefer a nice unobtrusive hatchback with Major Johnny to all the Vance nonsense 😁

I read that the secret service people were going to local's houses asking for details of everyone who lived in the house. And were quite reasonably told no. I do hope that's true. He really thinks he's more important than he is.

One would have thought the secret service could find that out for themselves.

If they do checks anyway what's the point of knocking on doors?
I'd be beyond pissed off if US SS knocked on my door and started demanding to know who I am. I would delight in shutting the door in their face though. What they going do about it? Arrest me for sitting at home and minding my own business?

*in reality, I'd be so dumbstruck and bewildered by such an encounter I'd probably just answer all the questions. I just like to think I'd be brave enough to tell them to FO 😁

See how people react, it may highlight any views which make them more likely to attack, just to get to know people and scan the local area - they don't like surprises. They find things out as people talk that background checks, social media, jobs etc won't necessarily reveal and note it down.

We may both be right. Trump does bear more than a passing resemblance to a giant donner kebab.

The secret service wouldn’t get anything out of MNers. They wouldn’t open the door.

Linguist1979 · 10/08/2025 22:20

We saw a huge procession of cars, trucks and vehicles I didn’t recognise on the m25 today going clockwise at around 1.30 I’d guess. I’m used to seeing police escorts as live in Windsor and used to work in Trafalgar Square, but had never seen trucks and vehicles like this. I think they were the ones on the you tube video posted above. My daughter said why don’t they just travel in an old discreet car where no one would take a second look!

Poor Scotland

Or maybe he's sitting in there happily gorging himself on all the kebabs. I bet that is how he's usually moved around - his team stuffs him with junk food to shut him up, like shoving a dummy into a screaming baby.

Serpentstooth · 10/08/2025 22:31

What's wrong with using a helicopter like the royals? Why is the odious JDV littering up our roads? Good luck with your massive motorcade touring the narrow, rolling English roads of the Cotswolds. Tractors at the ready please.-

Blinky21 · 10/08/2025 22:40

No sofa is safe if it is Vance

Brunettesmorefun · 10/08/2025 22:49

I live in the Cotswolds and it was JD Vance. The huge entourage drove right past us and some vehicles had US plates on. What a palava!

Royalty and prime ministers travel in tiny motorcades in comparison
2-4 motorbikes and a Range Rover / police infront sometimes one behind as well.

I was surprised to see just how tiny when (as I later discovered) King Charles went by recently!

zaazaazoom · 10/08/2025 22:58

It's neither! I've worked with Burnham several times over the last decade and can guarantee he doesn't. He does have very thick eyelashes though.

Givemethesun · 10/08/2025 23:18

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Ah FFS @Notmyreality, how many times do you have to be told to stop doing this?🤦‍♀️

Ruby Gate deliver now. Just download their fucking App!🙄

Kyotoorbust · 10/08/2025 23:34

I live next to Buckingham palace
typically 6-8 outriders for the royal family (2-4 move ahead to close the roads off and 4 stay with them).

so 2 block any cross junctions. 2 in front and 2 behind. As they go through the junction the back 2 speed off to block next roads and the blockers fall in at the back

3-5 vehicles
I was very glad when the children moved schools as they regularly blocked me off and it is a long wait to release the traffic

Macron had a massive convoy and overhead helicopters. So not just Vance

Not important enough to land at Mildenhall, then? 😂
