I'm home alone with my 12 year old twins as my husband is working away and not due back until tomorrow evening. He's about 6 hours away.

Over the last few days I've had a painful boil under my boob. I saw the GP today as it doubled in size overnight. There is a red circle around it. She prescribed doxycycline (2 a day) and said to phone back if it gets worse.

I've been getting more and more unwell. My left arm has started tingling, I'm sweating with cold hands and feet, the pain is indescribable and I'm exhausted. I slept for 6 hours this afternoon and I'm still utterly exhausted and all my joints hurt.

I've had to phone my father in law who is an hour away to come through to sit with the twins. I'm on hold to 111 but a 45 minute wait to call answer as a minimum they said.

I'm not sure whether just to call a taxi when FIL gets here to go straight to accident and emergency.

I'm a little freaked out at how unwell I feel.

God love you just read your posts. I had very similar many years ago and I understand the pain you're in. It's so hard describing it to someone, people use to Iook at me weird when if say a boil but fuck 🥺 awful pain inside and out.

I had mine drained under local.... Fucking most painful thing felt everything, glad they're doing it under general. I was discharged about 2 hours after and had to go to the clinic for the next 2 weeks having it cleaned, then I was able to take care of it myself, they leave/left the wound open couldn't stitch it.

You'll definitely feel a lot better after it's drained, just more uncomfortable trying to do things like wearing bras .

Surely your children being with their grandfather, then their father will be OK?

One child is autistic.

Yes, but not with a long gap of hours and hours in between.
OP knows what she’s doing.
I’ve no idea why pp felt she had to challenge that.

mummymetalhead · 08/08/2025 19:04

I’m so glad you stayed! Fingers crossed the op is over with quickly and you can get home asap xx

TuMadreEsLoca · 08/08/2025 19:10

Your husband sucks 🫤 sorry but it’s true. I don’t understand his thought process at all. I’d be having a Big Talk.

sugarrosepetal · 08/08/2025 19:18

I hope all has went well OP. Don't be in a rush to get home. Going by your DH's standards, he'd likely leave you to tend to the kids and house despite just undergoing surgery. Let him get on with being a father, a husband and all that entails. Wishing you a speedy recovery otherwise.

BlackCoffeeAndSugar · 08/08/2025 19:18

Get well soon op

Crazymayfly · 08/08/2025 19:24

Op I hope it’s gone/going well. Cellulitis sucks and surgery on top too ….. hoping when you come round it may not feel any worse than it has, and it may even feel a little better if the infection has been drained.

Make sure you rest up and relax properly.

Springadorable · 08/08/2025 19:35

It's Friday, of course the traffic is bad. He's not used an iota of thoughtful common sense here. I'm angry on your behalf. Hopefully you are too and it raises your post surgery blood levels to normal levels 😂

Hours and hours in between what?
The children are with a grandparent and the other parent is nearly home.

mamabearlove · 08/08/2025 19:54

Hope you feel better soon OP .

Same here. Mine was at the very top of my thigh near my bum. I couldn't sit down!
I was given antibiotics on the Friday and it was a bank holiday. It hit worse over the weekend and I was at the GP first thing Tuesday. Sent straight to hospital and admitted. Does to emergencies didn't have the op until then Wednesday. I was also shocked at the GA but they told me the same, it would have been to painful to do locally.

I hope the op went ok OP and you are on the ward recovering well x

Moana987 · 08/08/2025 15:41

Wow, your children are 12! not babies... why does FIL need to stay.

Hope you feel better soon, my husband had Cellulitis and was in hospital for 4 nights with it on all sorts of antibiotics.

Not all 12 year olds can be left for a length of time. And OP updated to that effect.

3girlsmyworld · 08/08/2025 20:03

I really hope that when u wake up, u will be feeling so much better.
I know you have diabetes, but have they looked into HS?

Marieb19 · 08/08/2025 20:04

I do hope yoh are OK. Everyone else will be fine. Focus on you.

Rosscameasdoody · 08/08/2025 20:06

Beammeupscotty2025 · 08/08/2025 16:25

Why do you keep getting all these abscesses that need surgical intervention? Do you/they know?

Edited

Some people are just prone to them, and OP being type 2 diabetic will put her at increased risk because of some of the medications used to treat the condition.

Lilywc · 08/08/2025 20:06

I do hope you went to A&E!
Hope you got treated xxx

Wineinthegarden · 08/08/2025 20:08

Bless you for keeping us updated op! I have been thinking of you! Hope the surgery goes really well and you are out and home soon. Maybe a night in and a rest might be a good idea, let your DH hold the fort and you concentrate on you.

Silvers11 · 08/08/2025 20:18

@DarkSuitsSadSongs I hope it went well and you feel in less pain when you wake up. I suspect they may not send you home tonight as you are diabetic, and your sugars will be high with an infection ( and the stress), so they may want to monitor you overnight. Either way, when they do let you home, make sure your DH does all the stuff needed to look after the DC and rest up.

Sortalike · 08/08/2025 20:19

Sounds like a hellish day, hope the op went well and that you are resting. Please take it easy once you're discharged, rest up and recover x

LouiseK93 · 08/08/2025 20:20

Tealpins · 07/08/2025 22:56

How long will the taxi take to get to you? I think I would ring the ambulance.

Nooo she definitely needs A&E but its not extreme enough for an ambulance. Shes waiting for her FIL is she supposed to say to the ambulance crew "please can you wait to take me until FIL is here"?
Good luck OP keep us updated wishing you speedy recovery xx

DeathMetalMum · 08/08/2025 20:22

Hope the operation goes well op.

I'm going for surgery at 6pm barring any emergencies.

I can't leave tye twins home alone for an extended period of time. DD has autism and a visual impairment and still requires support to function in most ways. DS is good with her but she tends not to do what he tells her. I can't expect him to take the responsibility for her. Plus I sit as a panel member on children's hearings and leaving a disabled child for an undetermined time would likely see me referred to the reporter myself.

DH is almost home. Sods law there were a few accidents on the roads home at various points. He's coming straight to the hospital and I'm hoping I can get home tonight.

I'm a children and families social worker in Scotland, and in no way would I support a referral to the reporter under these circumstances. The threshold is really high for referral.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

notacooldad · 08/08/2025 20:29

Hope everything is going well op 🙏
