Sydney Sweeney

I keep seeing posts on my SM about Sydney and the controversy behind her advertisement for some jeans. I’ve seen multiple posts about it being controversial but I can’t understand why, she’s got a low cut top on but I wouldn’t consider it low enough to cause the attention it’s getting. Please can someone tell me what I have missed?

If it is something really obvious and I’m being an idiot I promise I’m not being goady, I genuinely can’t figure it out.

Googled, and it's being seen as wrong because it's subversively saying she is pretty because she is blonde and blue eyed? I think??

A bit like this?

Sydney Sweeney

Yep and it works.

I've priced some up today. Not because I think I'll look like SS but because I support an anti woke product.

Edited

Good call! Might do the same 😆

Although I am still holding on to the hope that they will make me look like SS

Charabanc · 01/08/2025 10:56

You’ve never heard of eugenics before?!

Everyone is always learning something, every day. Just because it's something you knew about, no need to be all ?! about it. Just welcome the fact that learning is happening.

ETA: That was to @Mewling

ThePoshUns · 01/08/2025 11:30

A complete over reaction, she is a lovely looking young woman. I’d rather see her in a pair of jeans than Dylan Mulvaney. I think it’s part of a general backlash against the trans and body positivity trend, neither of which are normal or healthy .

KM123456 · 01/08/2025 17:57

It's a humorous pun: "sydney sweeney has good jeans". The campaign is fine. It must be nice to have such a wonderful.life that the only thing you have to complain about is a advert about an actress in jeans.

Teenytwo · 31/07/2025 21:23

Just googled eugenics, not something I had heard of or was aware of before. I’m surprised a company would purposely do something so questionable when trying to advertise.

How old are you?

How old are you?

Do try not to be insulting when someone is learning something new.

TempsPerdu · 01/08/2025 18:22

The whole thing is bewilderingly bonkers. Some American activist type on a radio phone-in yesterday actually claimed that centring a white person in any kind of advertising campaign nowadays was inherently racist - my head almost exploded at that point.

RigIt · 01/08/2025 18:39

Oh ffs. I really thought that he would was starting to be a little less insane and then here we go again. The world is a fucking shit show at the moment and this is what people have to complain about?!?

Any particular reason you're being an arse?

BorneBackCeaselesslyIntoThePas · 01/08/2025 19:09

I think it’s a very smart piece of advertising. A catchy tag line, a dash of manufactured outrage and the company are surfing the ‘anti woke’ backlash to bumper profits. Extra large g and t’s all round!

namechangeGOT · 01/08/2025 19:37

Comparing what’s simply a play on words to sell Jeans with the Nazi party and all they stood for and did is frankly disgusting and a collective call for attention. Sydney Sweeney is gorgeous. She does have good jeans and genes and there is nothing wrong with that. You know who else has got good genes? Beyoncé - beautiful woman and I can fucking guarantee that is BK was in this advert stating she had good genes there would be no uproar.

I agree.

Tis the dying larp of DEI thought speech. She’s pretty and white. How dare she be so! Haven’t bought denim in years or heard of the brand. But I am now tempted…

Beancounter69 · 01/08/2025 21:45

Omg, it’s just a play on words. What the hell is the world coming to when we can’t see that???

Noodledog · 01/08/2025 22:24

Do people seriously think this advert is covertly spreading Nazi eugenics propaganda across the internet in the guise of an advert about jeans?

Is there any chance these people could be banned from the internet, maybe just for a year or so, to allow them to reconnect with reality?

Same!

How old are you?

Why?
Seems strange to judge someone on them not knowing something, if I’ve never encountered it then I’m not going to know. There are lots of other things that I won’t have heard of and there will be lots of things you haven’t heard of. Doesn’t make anyone better being a know it all.

I think I might have to blame baby brain because even with the explanations I don’t feel any wiser about it. She is beautiful, why is that controversial?

I don’t get it either. I think people just like being offended. Some people also hate beautiful women who talk about being beautiful.

It’s a play on words and people need to calm the fuck down

LadyCankleOfGrantham · 02/08/2025 00:02

Mewling · 31/07/2025 21:21

It’s a dog whistle to racists who think good jeans/genes constitutes being blonde haired and blue eyed. This line of thought rather famously didn’t go well during the 1930s/1940s and let’s face it, Germany learned their eugenics from America.

I know people like to blame America for all bad things but I really don’t think you can blame Nazi-ism (an inherently European concept pre-dating the war by some decades) on Americans .

LadyCankleOfGrantham · 02/08/2025 00:04

CaptainFuture · 31/07/2025 21:30

Absolutely agree...so we're not meant to acknowledge she's pretty because she's blonde and blue eyed?

I’ve followed her since her earliest work and she was brunette as a teen - she’s also quite unusual looking but in a very attractive way!

Thulpelly · 02/08/2025 01:02

She talks about ‘good’ genes, and there’s a racist/eugenics tone to the whole thing.

Thulpelly · 02/08/2025 01:07

And to those saying she’s ‘pretty and white’ and people are ‘butthurt about it’… she’s an extremely famous actress/sex symbol… it’s the idea that her genetics are ‘good’ that has more than a whiff of Nazi ideology

No she doesn’t. Have you not seen the ad?
