A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. Labour isn't working!

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

It's definitely spikier out there and an unwillingness to talk about the issue at hand when it comes to the sheer ineptitude of this Labour government, preferring instead to accuse those who disagree of being a bot/Russian/ Farage/ far right/ a C2 or a DE - it's a lot broader now than Tory HQ at least 😁

😬 yep

Welcome @GasPanicagree

Tony Blair would never have made some of these horrendous domestic mistakes, he had more political nous than that - also the bitter tone to the labour rhetoric is all new and more divisive.

Labour are discovering it's a lot harder to be in power and implement good policy than it is to sit and snipe at what other people do from the sidelines.

I don't really care that much who is in government. The difference between the Tories and Labour is actually relatively slight as regards the difference it makes to my life.

What I do care about is that the government operates competently and I don't think either the last government or the current one are doing that and an incompetent government always needs to be called out.

I should start by saying that I’m not anti-Labour for the sake of it. To give one example, I think Labour’s right to ease overcrowding in prisons and to look seriously at prison and sentencing policy.

But I do think that this government is a lot further left than Blair ever was. Particularly over the economy, the public sector and unions’ rights.

And many of its backbenchers have picked up left-Labour attitudes, despite Corbyn. Starmer has no coherent philosophy so he flails around in the face of party discontent when he does try something economically mildly sensible. Which just encourages the belief on the backbenches that they can get what they want.

It also leads to terrible dishonesty because he’s always having to justify changes of position. Which for a party mired in hypocrisy anyway, is a fatal combination.

Every time I hear him say “we’ve got to get this right” after a humiliating u-turn forced on him only by gangs of Labour MPs it makes me gag.

Arrearing50 · 12/08/2025 11:34

yes, that was my fatal error, this crew have shown no understanding of many things but particularly the private sector. And no competence - big majorities are awful for getting in tonnes of deadbeats who know they’re in for 5 years only and already have one eye on their next gig.

https://schoolsweek.co.uk/dfe-seeks-business-sponsors-to-boost-flagship-breakfast-scheme-impact/

Labour now asking for food sponsors for the "free" breakfast clubs cos schools can't make 60p per child work. In return for promotion 😡😡

WTF.
Are we going to see company adverts on school jumpers and book bags now then? All so that our Bridge can save face.

At least we got a change from the usual "disappointed" from Reeves.
She's evolved, it's now "more to do".

Yep! We were told it was all fully costed as coming from the magic VAT on school fees tree......🙄
Plus the fact that it will end up being a can of Red Bull + an energy bar for these kids!

Ffs how pathetic is this.

I wonder what the results of a GE would be if held next month.

Arrearing50 · 12/08/2025 18:08

yes it already feels like they’ve been in too long.

I'm a tory so I dream of this regularly 😂.

I think reform would win with a small majority. Just my opinion, I know the most recent MRP says different.

Universal Credit claimants reaches a record high of 8 million. Highest ever.

The rise driven almost entirely by people who are not required to work (rather than those on low incomes or out of work). This category has seen a 39% increase on this time last year.
