A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. Labour isn't working!

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Labour have been very effective at pitting parents against each other, and sowing division.

Yep it's pretty much the only thing they have achieved

Absentmindedsmile · 08/08/2025 21:50

It’s their life blood.. good ol ‘class wars’..

Only, in the past, it’s been a genuine desire to help the working class / less well off people.

As opposed to todays version of the Labour party, who help no one except

  • the trade unions (who help fund the Labour Party of course),
  • themselves
  • uhm.. nope can’t think of anything else
Parsley4321 · 08/08/2025 22:09

Race to the bloody bottom it’s absolutely sickening. I’m out of it too - my son got a bursary at prep and public he’s very average it made the whole trajectory of his life better so far. I am so angry at these jealous embittered basterds Phillipson Starmer Reeves Lammy they are all completely dreadful avaricious weasels (poor weasels)

And the full cost of the Chagos bollocks is made plain when you pull back the curtains of another bit of accountancy trickery.

Revealed: Chagos deal to cost 10 times what Starmer claimed

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/54230d697cbf0094

It was bad enough when it was £3.4 billion.

Absentmindedsmile · 11/08/2025 07:16

@ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera

A cost which is

**
‘more than half the annual schools’ budget.’

What a fcking hypocritical disgusting bunch they are.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 11/08/2025 07:21

And the lying about it in Parliament!

"Sir Keir now faces accusations that he misled Parliament, because he told MPs in February that cost estimates between £9bn and £18bn were “absolutely wide of the mark” and suggested the true figure was lower."

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 11/08/2025 07:31

I suppose it could be worse, he could have lied about attending a party, complete with a birthday cake.

Unbelievable the damage we’re facing now due to Starmer and co.

Just reading Phillipson limbering up on levelling down education further and trying to get wc votes back from Reform.

White working-class children in Britain are being “written off” by society, the Education Secretary has admitted.

Speaking ahead of A-level results day on Thursday, Bridget Phillipson said it was a “national disgrace” that so many white working-class pupils were unable to get the marks needed for university.

The Government is preparing a series of interventions to tackle the issue in a white paper to be unveiled in the autumn.

This will be some nonsense that takes us all down the plughole.

You just never know what's coming next, do you? You just know it will inevitably be worse.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 11/08/2025 07:47

Limbering up on levelling down is exactly right. It's the same shit she had planned packaged up as saving the white working class kids. I'd like to think that it was a real plan. But I'm not that bloody stupid.

Yep they’re panicking about Reform and the more they do the more let’s damage things for everyone get aired.

Liker · 11/08/2025 08:27

The trial of Ricky Jones, suspended Labour councillor, begins today. He pleaded not guilty to inciting violence last year. Let's see what the outcome is and if (found guilty) he will receive a similar sentence to Lucy Connolly.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 11/08/2025 09:03

You'd think rallying an actual crowd in the midst of civil unrest as a legitimate political actor and saying that we, 'need to cut their throats and get rid of them' and then pleading not guilty, and so doesn't receive any grace for owning up - would result in a far harsher sentence than which was delivered to Connolly?

I guess we'll have to see.

Arrearing50 · 11/08/2025 09:10

I agree @ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera. and on the education stuff - my heart sinks when I hear they’re tinkering with something else, the teachers and HT are probably dreading whatever nonense new policy is coming their way.

twistyizzy · 11/08/2025 14:24

The reported plan to recruit 1,000 new careers advisors has been cancelled. This decision affects a Labour Party pledge to invest in additional careers support, including specialist mental health services and Young Futures Hubs.

The Education Tax was supposed to pay for them so any guesses as to why they've been cancelled?

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 11/08/2025 16:05

All my usual news sites are failing me Twistyizzy, I can't find anything on this. Although my brain is melting in this heat - so it could be that. Do you have a link please?

No worries, it's because so far it has only made news in the CDI newsletter (careers industry body). I am trying to get the link. I first saw it on my LinkedIn feed.

I have people on it who may be more successful than myself 😄

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 11/08/2025 16:16

Thanks 😁. It's okay, it'll work it's way through to the usual news cycle eventually. You'd like to think it wouldn't fall under the radar, at least.

Arrearing50 · 11/08/2025 18:39

And isn’t that cynical - we saw the education tax was paying for a million things, and in fact, it’s been moved away from education altogether…

TheNuthatch · 11/08/2025 20:10

Evening all. Sorry, I've been really busy today so just catching up.

So Chagos is even worse? And they've massaged the figures to boot.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the Ricky Jones trial. How can he plead not guilty ffs. Woe betide if he gets away with a slap on the wrist.

Labour have no intentions at all of improving education. I just hope most of the BS can be reversed, although not helpful for those families with dc in the thick of it right now.
It will be interesting what come out of the careers advisor info. So much of what they do (particularly on education) slides under the radar. I learn more from @twistyizzy, our font of educational knowledge, than I do from the media. I wonder if they'll have to take it out of the pledge tracker that we're all so fond of 🤔.

I doubt the 1000 careers advisors will even make it into mainstream media. It will just never get mentioned and hence brushed under the carpet!
However a journo is digging into it 😊

Good. I hope they've got a big spade 😁.

I wish Kemi B would do more probing and attacking on education. She could run a mile with it, such an open goal. I have genuinely found out more from you twisty, despite me keeping up with the news re politics etc. I'm convinced that many parents are completely unaware of what Labour are doing in this area.

Good morning.

UK unemployment stays at 4 year high of 4.7%.
The number of payrolled employees has fallen again by another 44,000 in three months to July. Lowest since April 2021.
Payrolled employees has fallen in 10 of the last 12 months (ONS). Falls concentrated in retail and hospitality. Job vacancies also falling.

Small boat crossings on Labour's watch expected to hit 50,000 today.
