I was reading a book that said that the most succesful people get up at 5am.

What do you think. What time do you get up at?

I get up at 5am as start work done days at 6am. Am I successful....? Idk, but I do work hard. I just find there aren't enough hours in the day. Can't say I ever have any mind-blowing ideas at that time of day though.... usually "I need a cup of tea" is as crazy as it gets!

Isitreallysohard · 24/07/2025 06:00

I think that only works if you can go to bed late and don't need much sleep. It also needs to fit in with your natural body clock.

snap 5 am. out by 6:50 6 days a week. very non-successful.

May be it should read "successful people .like getting up at 5am"

coz I am not a morning person and resent it every day. May be I would be more successful if I jumped out of bed at 5am ready for the day...but I don't 😂

5am is probably not the actual success factor. It's probably they are successful and have to get up at 5 to fit everything in. I think I've read somewhere that lots of successful people only need 4 hours of sleep, again, it's not surprising if they can function and have 4 more hours a day more than most people.

PersephonePomegranate · 24/07/2025 06:03

But what if you get up at that time already for work? Or work nights? It's assuming all people get up around 6am (or later)and would be getting an extra hour of productivity.

EmpressaurusKitty · 24/07/2025 06:07

I get up at 5 if I’m going to the gym before work.

It’s made much easier by it being just me & the cat here though.

MrBallenIsaFittie · 24/07/2025 06:08

I get up a 4.45am (do I get extra points?) I am definitely not a night owl and I get all of the house work done before getting to work by about 7.40am.
I am probably classed as unsuccessful by most people's standards but it works for me and my family 🤷‍♀️

garlictwist · 24/07/2025 06:09

I usually get up about 5. I've always been an early bird. I usually read for an hour, have some breakfast and then go for a swim before work. I wouldn't class myself as "successful" though and I'm rubbish in the evenings.

justmeandtheclan · 24/07/2025 06:09

Honestly I can’t remember the last time I was up after 4:30 . The kids are earlier risers and I can safely say I get no good ideas at 5am

Blondebrownorred · 24/07/2025 06:09

I'm up at 5.30am on weekdays. Some days I'm out the door running at 6am. It doesn't feel early to me.

TabbyCatInAPoolofSunshine · 24/07/2025 06:13

I actually really love being up at 5am, but I hate getting up at any time. The alarm going off at 5am is no better or worse than 6am or 7am as long as I went to bed at the right time to get seven hours sleep. Given a choice I'd still get up at midday like a teenager (my oldest child is an adult 😂).

I used to work shifts and loved 6am- 2pm, then having the day still ahead - I got up at 4:45am for early shifts mostly. It was a mixed shift pattern which was the problem - swapping with lates (2pm-10pm, not home till around 10:45pm) and days within the same week.

Atm I start work at 7:45 every day and it was getting me down having no time for myself so I've been getting up at 5am most week days to walk before work. I love it once I'm out, but getting up is hard.

I'm the definition of an underachiever though - I have loads of qualifications I've never used and work in a jobI don't need them for, so the theory doesn't work for me!

Elisabeth3468 · 24/07/2025 06:15

Toddler and baby get me up at 5am or sometimes before... my brain feels like mush 😂 I am EXHAUSTED

DonewhatIcando · 24/07/2025 06:16

I get up at 5am for work, it's 6:15 now, it takes me an 1.1/4 hrs to make myself look human.
Im 59 yrs old and constantly knackered.
I don't have my best ideas at 5am, I'm just in survival mode.

Elle771 · 24/07/2025 06:22

boddtm · 23/07/2025 21:56

5am. I can debunk that theory.

Exactly this 😅🙈

borntobequiet · 24/07/2025 06:28

I normally wake at about 5 and if I for any reason sleep past 8 I feel dreadful for the rest of the day. But everyone is different.
I do get my best ideas first thing in the morning, and my brain switches off at about six in the evening.

whatcanthematterbe81 · 24/07/2025 06:30

I’m up at 5 every day but doing nothing productive. Munsnetting, reality tv watching and hitting my vape. Successful AF 😂

GuttedButResolute · 24/07/2025 06:36

How are they defining success?

Bogeyes · 24/07/2025 06:38

Flumpflimpo · 23/07/2025 21:56

Haha . The book said that people get their best ideas at 5am

I used to get up for work at 5.am. the only ideas I had was to get another job! Felt like crap all day.....

Aliksa · 24/07/2025 06:54

I am not hugely successful but I can see why it works. Time to prepare for the day, exercise, clear admin etc.

Sometimes I get up at 5.30am so I can cycle to the gym for 6am - a lot of people do the same. I find it knackering!

Miyagi99 · 24/07/2025 06:55

boddtm · 23/07/2025 21:56

5am. I can debunk that theory.

I start work at 5am, I’m not rich!

justmeandtheclan · 24/07/2025 06:59

I’m still mind boggled those that are waking up at 5am are not with children but getting up to cycle or run or swim . The thought makes me want to vomit 🤮 good on ya people

Soulfulunfurling · 24/07/2025 07:00

Of every seriously successful person I know they all do the equivalent of a day’s work before anyone is even awake. This is really quite true. The early start offers clarity, quiet and sharp focus. I should add early nights are also needed or you will burn out.

BrendaSmall · 24/07/2025 07:00

I go to sleep round about 11 and I’m awake at 4.30, so I get up!
years ago I’d be going to sleep around 9pm and up at around 8/9! Thanks to getting older 😢 my sleep is rubbish

LizzieSiddal · 24/07/2025 07:01

Dh gets up around 5 am. He achieves more in a day than most people do in a week. Makes me feel quite lazy. We’ve been married over 30 years and I’ve never known him to have a lie in, even on holiday he’ll be up and about- usually working on his computer.

It was fantastic when we had young children as he’d deal with them until I woke up around 7ish.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/07/2025 07:04

FancyCatSlave · 23/07/2025 22:03

I don’t, I’m a night owl. I’m good at 2am having not gone to bed.

Given free choice I am up at 10am.

This is what the "real" me would like to do.

The actual me gets up at 5.45 to get everything done.

Absolutely this. I get up at 5am to walk the dog before work, it hasn’t made me the slightest bit more successful.
