Famous people you thought would be nice, but were tw*ts?

Have you met someone famous and they turned out to be a bit of a twat?

I once met Steve Coogan (who I thought was hilarious as Alan Partridge) who was a sexist, lecherous buffoon IRL.

I’ll tell you who is bloody lovely - Jermaine Jackson. I was blown away by how decent, kind and nice he was. LaToya is mad as a box of frogs. I worked with them over a long weekend in Glasgow so feel I spent enough time with them to make a fair call. Oh and Amir Khan is an idiot.

Amir khan the boxer i hope and not Dr Amir khan who seems a delight.

Met Lorraine Kelly a few times, and she was very different to her personality on tv, no where near as bubbly and friendly.

Martel Maxwell was very nice.

Ian Rankine was lovely, he is someone I would like to sit in a pub with.

The only celeb I’ve met was Kat Slater from Eastenders… It was Disneyland and she was behind me in a queue. I was a child. I appreciate she was with her children, but she behaved as though I had COVID.
I was a teenager on a school trip to Disneyland. All I said was hello.

LittlleMy · 22/07/2025 16:41

I personally haven’t but my sister met jimmy Carr a fair few times and said he was always lovely.

alcoholnightmare · 22/07/2025 16:41

Met Fred from made in Chelsea several times in Southampton and Winchester… he loves dogs.

gotellsomeone · 22/07/2025 16:41

Peter Andre.
Met him at a charity event for disabled children when he was with Katie price who brought her son Harvey. He was awful, behaved like a complete child, rude, nasty, desperate for all the attention, and completely uninterested in anyone else when the cameras weren’t on him.
Katie Price on the other hand, who everyone expected to be awful was really lovely, genuinely kind and interested in the event and all the children.
At one point she was speaking and said something about her son not likely the noise of cutlery banging together and he decided she’d pronounced it wrong, really laughed and mocked her, getting really excited about getting other people to laugh and asking her to say it over and over. He kept bringing it back up and just thought it was absolutely hilarious that she’d embarrassed herself when she really hadn’t and he was the only one who should have been embarrassed.

There are about a million threads about this on here, but I always think they’re a bit unfair, because they’re really ‘I met Famous Person X for thirty seconds once and thought they were being a bit mean, although I have no idea whether I was the fiftieth person to ask for a selfie when they were buying tampons/trying eat dinner with their family’.

I met Alan Rickman years ago and found him rather sneery, but I don’t think that necessarily says anything at all about him, other than that’s how he was to one specific person for one specific two-minute period in about 2000.

His wife did release his diaries a few years back (after his death) and he did come across as sneery in that. So it may be a fair assessment.

Giggorata · 22/07/2025 16:45

Still sex on legs, though..
I met Dave Dee once and he was an uptight arse, very different from his cheeky chappie stage persona. I was so disappointed.

IfNot · 22/07/2025 16:46

To be fair, Steve Coogan is known for being a bit of a twat. He even hams it up ( for example when playing himself in The Trip)
I’d be gutted if Richard Ayode(sp) was horrible, but I know he’s not 😍

Coffeeishot · 22/07/2025 16:48

Neil oliver, before he came out with all his conspiracy theroy stuff and was just the guy who.did Coast . Shut a door in my face in our town centre, then sighed at me as i said excuse me .in M&S because i wanted to walk round him Was the same day so i decided he was a turd.there and then !

Coffeeishot · 22/07/2025 16:49

Yes the boxer - hence why I didn’t say Dr! He is honestly a total tool. I think Dr AK seems lovely but have never met him.

God if I met jimmy page I’d think I’d died and gone straight through those pearly gates.

I met Robert Plant a few times and he was lovely. Very friendly. No 'I'm a rock God' vibes at all. Recognised me and my friends when he saw us again and came over to chat (not lecherous - mixed group with an interest he shared.)

CaveMum · 22/07/2025 16:35

I met him after a show once and he was charm personified.

The only people who I’d be desperately gutted to hear are not lovely are Anthony Stewart-Head (these threads never see to pass without several people saying what a gent he is), Claudia Winkleman, Mel Giedroyc and Davina McCall.

I work at a tv studios and met hiM when he was in to do a show and honestly so bloody demanding and rude. Crazy how people can turn on the charm when they want to lol

I just had a mini panic there. I dont think Amir Khan is the brightest button.

A woman who was in Auf Weidersein, Pet, who I didn't even recognise but I come across her often. She thinks she is actually famous and expects everyone to know who she is, and is friends with the woman who sang on Meatloaf I Would Do Anything For Love (no idea of her name because I dont really listen) but she constantly refers to her....ridiculous! Jimmy Nail seems nice, though, but very flirtatious!

SecretNameforMN · 22/07/2025 16:57

Milton Jones. I was a massive fan but when we met socially he sneered at me so nastily that I have hated him ever since.

Jimmy Carr…complete arrogant twat

Ah now you see, DP met him a couple of years ago and he was an absolute darling...

TinkerbellStarbright · 22/07/2025 16:59

Julie Walters is an absolute darling and so friendly.
Johnny Depp is very humble, softly spoken and kind!
Ant and Dec and Peter Andre - all come across lively and friendly and bubbly and were all twats.

Apfelkuchen · 22/07/2025 17:00

I hate to say it, but Julia Donaldson. Grumpy AF.

MemorableTrenchcoat · 22/07/2025 17:00

Victoria Wood, Peter Bowles, Alan Yentob, all twats.

I think maybe because I met him in a work settling maybe just doesn’t turn on the charm lol

okydokethen · 22/07/2025 17:01

I was a bit sad going to an Amy Macdonald concert - she was clearly finding the crowd pretty dull but it was held in an older person town, all seated. Some of the audience were quite old but we were all enjoying the show just not rocking out!!

This was when DP was a taxi driver, and they bonded over their love of music!
