The Mumsnet Code

ChippySauce · 08/07/2025 15:37

Friend popped around earlier unexpectedly, without giving me 3 weeks warning 😮

AND DC11 let them in 😱

What is the world coming to I ask you!
Does nobody adhere to “The Mumsnet Code” anymore?
Whatever next, will we be advising each other to Keep The Bastard?!

I despair, I really do…

What violations of TMC has occurred in your life recently?

LardoBurrows · 08/07/2025 18:32

I don't hoover and mop every day and I only do two washloads a week, sometimes less. I think, according to the Mumsnet code, I am a slattern 😲

EssentialDecluttering · 08/07/2025 18:32

I like getting wedding invitations even if it’s only to the evening do.

I made friends with other mums at the school gate despite the only thing we had in common being the DCs, you have to start somewhere and we are still firm friends now the DCs are adults, we hardly even mention them now when we go out.

I like it when friends pop round.

I answer the phone and phone people.

I couldn't give a damn if I'm unreasonable.

But how do you know if you are or not without us telling you posting a thread about it?

Well I live in social housing, am single and quite content and work in hospitality, so that's me struck off straight away.

But on the off chance I'm not banned and this post gets through, I have today cleaned my loo with bleach and a toilet brush, only had one shower, didn't wash my towel afterwards and walked my dogs without them accosting anyone, spoke to my neighbour. In my defence I am having chicken left overs and a not massive salad for dinner though.

alexalisten · 08/07/2025 18:48

I dont earn 100k a year

FatLarrysBanned · 08/07/2025 18:24

I sleep naked as does DP. I don't change my sheets every day. We're not dead yet.

I don't feel violated if he kisses me without putting in a written request 3 weeks in advance, and I don't think he's a sex pest if he gives my bum a sneaky pat when I loading the dishwasher.

I actually speak to my work colleagues and share stuff about my life as do they.

I can drive on a motorway at night without hyperventilating.

Wow. I can’t believe you admitted to all of that on a public forum.
Your username will become a self fulfilling prophecy.

I never worry whether something I buy, or something I do, is middle class.

DollopOfFun · 08/07/2025 20:04

As much as I like the country, I have no desire to be, or even look, French.

ChippySauce · 08/07/2025 20:13

QuantumLevelActions · 08/07/2025 16:50

I don't like chicken 😐

Well I totally read that as “children”.
To be perfectly frank, am more shocked at chicken 🤭

OP posts:
FlowerPower2525 · 08/07/2025 21:34

I do multiple wash loads a day
I use Bleach
I don't gentle parent - if they have done wrong they get told off.
A chicken lasts 1 meal with maybe lunch box sandwiches the next day.
I don't limit screen time.
I allow treats quite regularly

putitovertherefornow · 08/07/2025 21:41

All my neighbours co-operate with one another and are considerate when it comes to parking.

This is a local site for local people, there’s nothing for you here!

(and before anyone thinks I’m being a dick, I’m just plagiarising The League of Gentlemen, to say this lady is not at all a mumsnetter 🤣)

@FatLarrysBanned you might be the most normal person here

mrsh2025 · 08/07/2025 21:46

Oh gosh so many…
•huge age gap
•work in hospitality
•my MIL is more to me than my own mum and tbh would keep her over the husband
• I live with vultures and am lucky if a chicken lasts a meal let alone 4
• my teenagers will happily live off pizza at times AND I’ve let them have coco pops for tea before cos it was “too hot to eat”
•I can argue with OH (sometimes I’m even wrong!) but I don’t Ltb I just lick top of his coffee cup

ooo and we don’t schedule sex and love him initiating it. So shall see all the naught people in Mumsnet jail

putitovertherefornow · 08/07/2025 21:47

My local Waitrose and Lidl are practically next door to each other, and I have been known to shop at both on the same day.

WigglywagglyWanda · 08/07/2025 22:01

I shouldn't be here really

I had a little buffet for my sprogs birthday bought from Iceland

I've got 3 tattoos

Acrylic nails and bright copper hair...and am 68

I don't feel like leaving the fucker or going through his phone if he comes in an hour late from the pub

I'm a huuuuge size 12

ObtuseMoose · 08/07/2025 17:56

I let a workman use the toilet and didn't spend the next week sobbing and shaking.

Next thing you’ll be telling us is that you go buy their beverage of choice and make them bacon butties too.

Headfullofbees · 08/07/2025 22:10

My husband works ft, I'm pt work and the rest with the kids and yet he still does a fair share of the household chores and parenting.

I'll get my coat....

WithIcePlease · 08/07/2025 22:25

@ChippySauce
I used to make the gardener bacon sandwiches. If he was working on a Sunday, he get a small roast dinner. Although I didn't ask about beverages, I bought BBQ sauce as he preferred that on bacon or sausage sandwiches.
Should I leave MN?

ChippySauce · 08/07/2025 22:40

@WithIcePlease Should I leave MN?
Well that depends.
I see you say “used to”, so can we assume you have seen the error of your ways?

OP posts:
TheaBrandt1 · 08/07/2025 22:47

I was a sahm for 7 years now earn more than Dh. Breaking the MN rule that anyone that takes a career break for kids is a traitor to feminism and will end up destitute and sobbing in a gutter as there is No Way Back
into the work place.

waxymoron · 08/07/2025 22:47

We charged our adult son rent when he moved back for a while and got a job paying more than I earned. And sometimes be bought his own food and cooked it.
I also get on really well with his fiancée, I'm over 60 and haven't got dementia and have never seen a 6 figure salary in my life.
Oh amd we used to live in <social housing>
Failed

IonaJ · 08/07/2025 22:56

I didn’t go back to work full time after having my DC!

TulipCat · 08/07/2025 23:06

I really don't mind if someone I don't know makes friendly small talk with me in a public setting. Even if it's a man. I don't find it "intrusive".

beasmithwentworth · 08/07/2025 23:24

I am single and would like to meet someone but I have not joined a local hobby group in order to meet a man.

My next door neighbour of 19 years is one of my best friends and we have never had any disputes.

All the chicken is gone (on average) by Tuesday

I don’t take the teens’ phones off them at night.

I’ll get my coat.
