The Mumsnet Code

Friend popped around earlier unexpectedly, without giving me 3 weeks warning 😮

AND DC11 let them in 😱

What is the world coming to I ask you!
Does nobody adhere to “The Mumsnet Code” anymore?
Whatever next, will we be advising each other to Keep The Bastard?!

I despair, I really do…

What violations of TMC has occurred in your life recently?

I answer the door and the phone.
I like going out and seeing my friends.
I'm friends with some of my workmates.
I'm friends with some of my neighbours.
All of my neighburs are nice and don't display antisocial behaviour.
I'm not earning a 6 figure salary, but I love my job.
DD didn't get all 9s (A* in her case) at GCSE.
I have been happily married for over 40 years to a man who pulls his weight.
I'm not an introvert or a noisy extrovert.

WillowTit · 09/07/2025 06:46

my dd has come back home to live, temporarily, but it has been 9 months.
she is 28
i do the washing and cooking for the household
i use toilet brushes
mostly i chose what to cook without asking for preferences.

Pearlywhiteset · 09/07/2025 06:46

It's almost time for me to take my dog for his walk in the nearby woods. I won't worry that a maniac or murdering escaped convict will attack me because my hair is emerald green with a purple fringe. No living soul comes within ten yards of me. THEYRE probably scared of ME. 👍

tuvamoodyson · 09/07/2025 06:47

Well, I’ll tell you something worse than that, I don’t mind if the shop assistant makes small talk with me! If she passes remarks on the chocolate bar I’m buying, or asks if that fruit loaf is tasty etc, I don’t care a jot, I quite happily chat to her as I pack my shopping! I don’t ‘freeze’ and come home and ask MN if I should have reported her…..

Soulfulunfurling · 09/07/2025 06:49

Oh and I love hugs from teachers and even strangers. A hug from anyone is fine with me 🤗

@ChippySauce
I used to make the gardener bacon sandwiches. If he was working on a Sunday, he get a small roast dinner. Although I didn't ask about beverages, I bought BBQ sauce as he preferred that on bacon or sausage sandwiches.
Should I leave MN?

I have a 'Gardener' that comes and mows my lawn once a fortnight (I'm disabled & would probably run myself over if I tried!)
He gets a cuppa & a chocolate biscuit without fail. We even chat about our lives/general chitchat. He's never asked to use the loo but I fear I'd let him.

I feel I've let Mumsnet down....I'll be in the corner thinking about my behaviour 😁

I know, I've really messed up here. Hope I don't get banned for not buying the Mumsnet chicken this week.

I never considered this. My family don't eat chicken gasp
Will I be banned?

scalt · 09/07/2025 06:55

I wear trainers without socks, and I don’t care how “grim” this is.

Soulfulunfurling · 09/07/2025 06:55

I am vegetarian. Chickens are not welcome in this house unless they are alive 🐓

Pipsquiggle · 09/07/2025 06:58

I had no idea about mumsnet's disdain for toilet brushes - I have always used them as have multiple generations before me in my family.
What else are we meant to use?

I also wear shoes indoors

Fetchthevet · 09/07/2025 07:05

I was a SAHM before marrying my partner and he didn't leave me high and dry (or even at all). I went back to work on a higher salary than before.

I also believe that if I earned a salary of £100,000 per annum I would be able to manage my money in such a way that I COULD afford childcare (yes I am still bitter and twisted about that thread where I was told off for even suggesting this)

waxymoron · 09/07/2025 07:14

I also work helping people claim <whisper> benefits and they're actually normal everyday people who have fallen on hards times on the whole.
I don't begrudge paying 'my taxes'for these feckless more than one child having, poor, often <ugh> socially housed scroungers and sometimes I visit their homes!

Staffling · 09/07/2025 07:19

I play with and talk to my kids, sometimes even within earshot of strangers.

vapourtrail · 09/07/2025 07:21

I wore a dress that had some white on it to a wedding, but the fact that I wasn’t the one walking down the aisle or who had sent out the invites, meant that absolutely no one had trouble distinguishing me from the bride…

Cutleryclaire · 09/07/2025 07:22

I let my kids ride in the supermarket trommey

I leave nappy bags by the front door for up to an hour at a time

I gave my SIL and MIL an open invitation to stay with us for as long as they like, as often as they like

I love visitors who pop in unannounced

I have a log burner.

That's nothing. I PREFER to be only invited to the evening do. Because I think its the best bit. I also couldn't care less about the food at the day do, because (are you ready for this...?) I know I wont expire if the couple have selfishly overlooked that I don't eat chicken. I can manage from 11am to 3pm without eating, can entertain myself and my DC while the photos are on, dont care if im not at my preferred table, and dont begrudge £42 for a travel lodge because the bride lives in Whitby and I live in West Brom.

I also like child free weddings.

I'm another one who likes small talk in shops and don't mind at all if the assistants in eg Lush come and ask if they can help me with anything.

Fetchthevet · 09/07/2025 07:22

I've never bought anything from Boden

I've never asked strangers on the internet if my dress is appropriate for a wedding

LetsDancetheDance · 09/07/2025 07:23

I meant to be so rude.

I wore a cream shift style dress to a relatives wedding…I was easily distinguishable from the bride by virtue of the fact she was in white, wore a long flowing veil and carried a bouquet of flowers.

Cutleryclaire · 09/07/2025 07:25

Being invited to a hen do and not the wedding would be my ideal

My Lord!! Any one would think that people going to someone’s wedding actually, you know, recognise her!!

RetiringRita · 09/07/2025 07:32

I'm a size 14/16

My.husband is lovely.

My adult DC need to pay rent.

I've had coloured hair whist not having mental health issues.

I work with trans people and value them as highly as my other colleagues. I don't think they should be rounded up and stopped from working.

I don't mind people using their garden.

I don't want tweakments. I'll look my age thank you.

Unorganisedchaos2 · 09/07/2025 07:34

I sleep in kickers

TulipCat · 09/07/2025 07:36

I have three teenage sons. Not one of them is a strapping 6ft 2 with size 12 feet.

RampantIvy · 09/07/2025 07:38

I love weddings
I'm not offended by only being invited to the evening do
I have small boobs
I love summer
I have never been invited to an unreasonable hen do
I am perfectly capable of "using my words" politely and assertively
I have never had any health professional or retail staff be rude to me (you have to wonder who the common denominator is in these scenarios)
I pay for a TV licence and am happy to do so
I enjoy watching TV
