Done some work this afternoon, then went for a short walk and chat to a friend in the UK. Couldn’t go for long, too hot! Will probably go this evening if I can.
@bizzey dont your games transfer through Google play or something ? Does it definitely reset you to level 1? How annoying!

Some of them can be logged into with Facebook or Apple or Google. If you login on your old phone, then install the games on your new phones and login, will that save your progress?

MissConductUS · 26/06/2025 19:15

Ella, that must have been incredibly stressful for you and your family. Thank goodness it seems to be over for now.

Bad news about the ducklings. I saw mama duck, quacking loudly, without the ducklings. There's a good chance the ducklings got washed down the spillway, which I've seen happen in years past. We've had a lot of rain recently, which means that there's a good current of water going out at speed.

I've tried to book a time to pick cherries at the pick your own farm we like, but no spots are available. They only put them online a week at a time, so I'll have to keep checking.

DS is driving up to Boston tomorrow to see some of his friends from uni and have a mini holiday. Saturday is my 29th wedding anniversary, so DH and I will probably go out for dinner. I've asked him for a cordless hedge trimmer as a gift. I need it to cut back the rose bush and some other things in the garden.

Gosh @EllaDisenchanted how stressful for you living with such conflict. I can’t imagine what you are living through.

Miss your plants are coming on a treat. I’m quite envious. I have some herbs growing in the kitchen though and they do seem to be taking over the windowsill. I’m going to have to move them into the garden, in the planter. I don’t want the mint to be taking over the garden.

I hope you manage to get your phones working properly Bizzey. I don’t think I’ve ever had any problems transferring data, but I have android phones. My DD and OH have iPhones, but I’ve never wanted one of those. I use my kindle app on my phone and read every night in bed, using the dark background. It syncs with my Kindle and my app on my iPad thank goodness.

Havoc you get out and about with your littlest, I’m quite jealous. My grandsons will be here in a week, and we have been planning places to take them. We are still on the fence about taking them to the Harry Potter Experience. My DSiL lives near there and we could go and stay either with her or at her DD’s Airbnb for free. We live near Manchester and we thought about going to Wales perhaps. I think the West shore beach would be ideal for kite flying!

Forgot to say that I went out with some friends, for lunch yesterday, we alltaught at the same school for years. Our server last time we went recognised us all, as we had taught her daughters. This time it was another customer who came over to us because we had taught her sons. We might have to go further afield to remain incognito in future. Thankfully we have all been remembered fondly. 😂

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/06/2025 21:13

Uman, that beach looks stunning! 😍
Getting the kids out is good for me, too. It helps me explore our city/suburbs and do things I might not otherwise do.
Ella, I think on one hand you must just used to it all, but what an awful thing to have to live with. Praying for peace. 🙏
Miss, congrats on your anniversary. 🥰
Hoping baby ducks are out exploring. 🤞

Havoc is napping. Baby is wide awake. I wouldn't mind a nap.

uman that looks beautiful :) I have three mega Harry Potter fans in the house - I’d love to one day take them to the Harry Potter studios :)

I’ve managed to get a load of cooking done and we’ve got the house cleaned. We have guests staying for the weekend (just family). Attempting lemon blueberry bars now. I made an Ottolenghi recipe from the ‘simple’ cookbook last night - wasn’t massively impressed, DH and I agree cinnamon belongs in rice pudding not main course rice 😅

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/06/2025 16:54

Ella, I sometimes sprinkle cinnamon on chicken when roasting it. Just a little, though. I hate it when a recipe disappoints. 🤨
Took the kids out for a drive and a walk in the rain after dinner last night. We drove through Pacific Spirit park and stopped at the lookout, around the university to show them the museum of anthropology which we'll go back to, then a wander at a lovely park, Maple Grove. Lots of gorgeous trees and adventure for dc.
The park has really nice wading pool and picnic area which we'll go back to when it's a bit warmer. Someone had left a soccer ball behind so we kicked it around a bit and got baby to score a goal. I got a bit competitive and stole the ball from Havoc to score for the championship and Havoc scored a couple as well. Yep. Me and my 1+ and 3+ year olds In the rain 🤗
Dinner was salmon with pesto, prawns and garlic butter, brown/wild rice and sautéed asparagus.
Off to take my mum to a medical appt soon snd have got a load of laundry on.

Thanks for the new thread, havoc.

I feel sorry for mother duck, MissC - hoping the worst hasn't happened..

I have the week off next week as Friday is the Fourth of July. DD is also off and is taking the train to visit a friend one state over, an eight hour trip for her. I'll have the place to myself for once!

MissConductUS · 28/06/2025 11:51

Ella, lemon blueberry bars sound delicious. There must be a better recipe out there. I have a couple of baking recipe books and will have a look.

Math, I saw mother duck in the same area yesterday, still alone. The reservoir is not a safe place for ducklings.

havoc, what plant is that in your picture?

DS drove up to Boston yesterday. It's about a four-hour drive if you don't hit a lot of traffic, so we're empty nesters for the weekend. We have reservations for a nice restaurant for dinner. He got me the lovely hanging basket of geraniums as an anniversary gift, and now both cactus plants are flowering.

Oh dear Havoc my DD are a couple of those people who can’t stand the taste or smell of either cinnamon or coriander. My DS on the other hand, loves them. I wonder why this is. I have to rush to tell people not to put cinnamon on my pastel nata, when I visit Lisbon.

I’ve also just found some gorgeous satin pyjamas which have things found in Lisbon printed on them which I think might be for her birthday. I also spotted some for you as well Havoc, with Kentucky Derby on them 😂

No ducks or turtles unfortunately MissC!

Uman, pj's are gorgeous. 😍 I know the thing about coriander (cilantro here) is genetic. Tastes like soap to some people. I wonder if it's the same with cinnamon and such?

Fun fact: you know the smell of your pee after eating asparagus? If you say yours doesn't smell, it actually does, but you just lack the ability to perceive the smell. It's called "asparagus anosmia" if you can't detect the smell. 😂🤓

I wonder if the coriander tastes like soap and inability to smell asparagus are connected.

I love coriander and can smell asparagus...

Same. And enjoy a laugh when people say their pee never smells. 😝

We've just had a lovely dinner at Dolly's Restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. It's one of our special occasion places, as it's a bit of a drive. It's on the Hudson River, directly across from the US Military Academy at West Point, which you can see on the right side of the photo.

uman those look fun!
Myrtle - I don't mind small amounts of coriander, and haven't had asparagus in years and years- willing to try one for research purposes ;) My grandmother used to tell me it turns pee green?! She could have been having me on.
Happy anniversary Miss 🍻The lemon blueberry bars came out delicious. I cut them on Shabbat, so took a pic of the leftovers after. I would definitely make them again. I'm impressed by your cacti - I have a thing that goes on my balcony which looks like an oven glove, where I try to grow herbs and flowers, but mealy bugs keep destroying them. My cacti held out the longest.
Havoc your pic looks like a peacock!

HildaTablet · 29/06/2025 13:01

Love coriander, and can definitely smell the after-effects of asparagus! There’s also a thing about tasting bitterness in grapefruit peel, isn’t there…..?

Ha. I can't smell the asparagus and I eat a lot of it 😱. I do now wonder if it's related somehow!

Do you think coriander tastes like soap?

Very much so. My son actually dislikes coriander but doesn't mind a small amount of cinnamon, but only on rice pudding!

Wow, maybe it is a thing.

Happy belated anniversary MissC . I'm always astounded at the time it takes to travel across States. If we drove for 8 hours we'd be in the sea! I don't drive but my OH has to travel to Surrey once a month for meetings. It takes about 4 or 5 hours and he usually stays another night because he can't face the journey back the next night!
Ella. My daughter has been to the Harry Potter Experience a few times, which explains the HP scarves, wands, dressing gowns for the boys, hoodies, and she has about 16 HP lego sets. She is in her 30s and the lego sets are on display in the conservatory! It was always easy to buy her something for her birthday or Christmas.

Just catching up with the new thread, thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc
lovely geraniums @MissConductUSthey are my favourites, we have two tubs outside our front.
Hope you have a lovely time with your grandsons @Umanresources- I have never been to Harry Potter world.
went to DSs presentation night last night, was great fun, the coaches had put together a fantastic programme. He is pleased as he will be captain next season.
@deathraystareI hope the flat hunting has been/will be successful.

So I was able to get reservations to pick cherries today. I think they were having a problem with their website last week. We went up there this morning. It was a bit warm but okay with a breeze. It's a 10-minute walk from where you check in to the cherry orchard, so they run a tractor-pulled wagon to bring people out and back. We took the wagon out and walked back.

We picked three quarts of cherries. The blueberries, blueberry bread, donuts, and the lobster roll were purchased at the farm store. Our cat Daisy loves lobster. DH shared a bit of his lobster roll with her, but as you can see, she wants more.

DS is on his way home from Boston and should return in an hour or two. I don't know if we're going to cook out tonight or get a takeaway. DS will likely be tired from his drive. I'm a bit tired from all the walking and cherry picking.
