Labour governs for its clients and not the country. Always reverts to type.

EasternStandard · 24/07/2025 13:00

We’re sinking with Labour. This gov go for the private sector. It will swing round to welfare and public sector. The former it has already, the latter will be last. But they can’t keep borrowing to prop it up. As much as they try.

Corbyn / Sultana have launched their party. I recall posters on here delighted it wouldn’t do so, due to Labour loyalty. It is going ahead.

TheNuthatch · 23/07/2025 19:07

That sounds about right.
Does your labour-supporting neighbour also claim that she votes labour for the greater good, rather than her own self interest? That's their usual MO.
Pour some weedkiller on her favourite flowers. It'll make you feel better 😂

Same with my neighbour who retired from the Civil Service aged 52 and pontificates about Brexit etc while milking the system.

I think, if Wes's little face is anything to go by, they genuinely thought they had sorted the doctors strike out last year and that would be the end of it. They were certainly vocal enough about it and it was always xrowed about on threads were people were lauding Labour's achievements so far.

Arrearing50 · 24/07/2025 13:33

I agree @Katypp about public sector pensions - the chasm between the private and publicly sector on pensions is much wider than any perceived pay difference.

But what will they likely do? Increase employer minimum contribution % and reduce tax relief….which will do nothing to reform fairness between public and private pensions.

🍿🍿 at the ready.

Upstartled · 24/07/2025 17:27

'Your Party' doesn't really roll off the tongue, does it?

Upstartled · 24/07/2025 17:33

Or, maybe, it isn't called Your Party?

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/fad846b3ad0f88ca

Although it has a website link to yourparty.uk, but might not be called Your Party at all. So, that's clear then😂

EasternStandard · 24/07/2025 17:39

I think it’s a holding name, which is a relief as it’s not great.

I read the statement, I think it’ll get a fair few 16 / 17 year olds. And older of course.

Upstartled · 24/07/2025 18:01

It's going to be interesting, that's for sure but I don't know how many teens have the appetite for a hard left party. Certainly not my two or their friends.

They just want a fair crack at living a successful and productive life in a fairly standard manner, not a dismantling of the standard manner through the lens of postmodern, radical progressivism.

EasternStandard · 24/07/2025 18:27

I think it could take some Labour votes and give Starmer a bit of a headache, not as much as Reform but a reduction in Labour polling.

i think it polled well with younger voters. I agree though it won’t be for all of them.

EasternStandard · 24/07/2025 18:30

More damage:

A record number of farms were forced to close for good this year after Rachel Reeves’s tax raid made the future of thousands of rural businesses unviable.
A total of 6,365 agriculture, forestry and fishing businesses have closed over the past year, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the highest since quarterly data was first published in 2017.

The majority of these closures took place during the first six months of the year after Ms Reeves, the Chancellor, announced in October that she would cut the amount of inheritance tax relief available to family farms.

Just 3,190 businesses in the sector have been set up over the same period. It leaves a net loss of 3,175, indicating the number of farms is shrinking at the fastest pace on record.

Parsley1234 · 24/07/2025 20:26

@EasternStandard slow handclap you bloody muppets as if no one cd see that coming

Barbadossunset · 24/07/2025 20:30

Eastern, that’s tragic about the farms - though no doubt Starmer and his mates will be delighted.
What will happen to the land?

Solar farms or houses 😡

Arrearing50 · 24/07/2025 20:55

Very sad - they’ve really fixed that up, haven’t they?

It is really sad. Once it's gone, we'll never get it back. Everything this government touches is a disaster.

I would love to be a fly on the wall.

If he can get unions on side then can he get them to fund his new party? That would mean Labour only funded by Ali, private healthcare, gambling + vaping firms.....

Yes I’ve been wondering about unions and funding. Plus didn’t Labour pledge new laws on 50% voting thing, and kyboshed essential services rule.

Not sure if they’ve changed the first thing but with strikes now happening I doubt they will be as keen.

Lob in loss of funding and their sneery arrogance might lose some oomph - Labour that is

Ha that’s what happens when you smirk and sneer on the way up, hits you on the way down.

Strikes, 200k signing to Corbyn’s new party in a day or so, protests, the best ‘summer reset’ they’ll get is buying a new swimming cossie.

Parsley1234 · 25/07/2025 15:18

Corbyn is not for me however he could of pulled a blinder here
200k in one day most from Labour I wd think watch this space …….
