He’s hit me and I don’t know what to do

I’m crying and I probably won’t make much sense but please try to help me see straight.
Had an awful evening. I know it started as my fault. I was cross as trying to house train two puppies but it’s been a bad day with them today. I was a bit annoyed and swore. I didn’t swear at anyone, it was a case of oh ffs, this is getting ridiculous.

He was angry with me and we argued. It’s eventually ended up with him grabbing my wrists, shoving me against the bedroom wall and then hitting me in the face. My nose hurts, so does my shoulder.

I’m now going to be homeless. I’ve no family, no friends anymore, don’t work and I live in his house. I’m so utterly pathetic.i can’t drive as I’ve had two glasses of wine but come tomorrow I’ll have to leave.
I’ve allowed myself to end up in this position , I’m in my late 50’s and I can’t believe I’ve been so bloody stupid.

Don't wait for him to message, he's just thinking he's playing you at your own game, he doesn't care and thinks you'll come grovelling back, ignore him and enjoy the peace and quiet. You'll miss him but soon look back and wonder why you stayed so long with someone so awful.

AgathaX · 20/06/2025 15:44

What a fabulous update. Really well done on getting out, reaching out and getting help from your step brother, and of course, on getting a job.

ThinkINeedHelp · 20/06/2025 16:45

My dsb phoned me at lunchtime.
We were talking last night about when we were kids, one of the things that cropped up was about holidays we had at the coast, my stepmum was from a village near the sea and we used to visit her family there.
It wasn’t a tourist place and the beach was a reasonable walk along the cliff path, a pebble beach with lots of rock pools. we absolutely loved it, most of the time there was only us there.
He phoned to see if I fancied going tomorrow. Yes, definitely, I then thought why don’t we stay over night somewhere near.
I’ve found a pub that has rooms, there’s only a twin available, slightly weird that we’ll have to share, he’s not fussed so I’ll not have to be either,
Been to buy some picnic bits, also a magazine and nail varnish. This afternoon I sat in the garden, painted my toenails, read my magazine. I feel strangely content.

Get used to the feeling OP.... it's here to stay!! Have a lovely weekend.

InjuryMyArse · 20/06/2025 17:11

I'm loving your updates. So brave of you to get out and you deserve lots of happiness. Your SB has been wonderful.

So many depressing tales on here of women who stay with their abuser, it's joyous to read of someone who escaped.

Beeinalily · 20/06/2025 17:18

@InjuryMyArse let's hope that the OP's story will be an inspiration to those poor women. OP I hope you have a wonderful weekend by the sea!

user1471538283 · 20/06/2025 17:28

I'm so proud of you!

I know it doesn't feel like it but you are not starting from scratch, you are starting from experience! You have weathered abuse, you can do anything!

Admittedly you will have to buy new things, but you can choose them! You can have lots more experiences and cake!

And if course he's feeling sorry for himself. He didn't think you'd leave.

rainbowruthie · 20/06/2025 17:32

Have a lovely weekend!

murasaki · 20/06/2025 17:51

Sounds like a lovely trip.

Fordian · 20/06/2025 18:31

I am so proud of you for saying ‘Enough’. Sure, there will be speed bumps in the road ahead but it takes enormous courage to do what you have done.

Onwards and upwards.

Newusername1234567 · 20/06/2025 18:42

@ThinkINeedHelp i am following your story from the beginning although its my first post. Have to say i love your updates and they weirdly put me in a good mood! So so happy for you. Good job

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 20/06/2025 18:47

Lovely update. Go to the beach, make fresh memories, honour family ones, and chip that polish on your toes.
You can do that now.
And the world awaits….

Horses7 · 20/06/2025 19:19

😎😎 🌞 enjoy!

OrlandointheWilderness · 20/06/2025 19:25

I’ve only just found your thread but I’ve read it all tonight and it is so wonderful to see your progress. Your DSB sounds very lovely.

justasking111 · 20/06/2025 19:35

Have the best weekend. 🐚🏖️🦀

Sodthesystem · 20/06/2025 19:52

So glad you got out op!

Just one thing, and feel free to ignore it if it's completely ridiclious, but sometimes you have to beware of men who swoop in like white knights when they find out you've been abused.

Now for all I know you and your step brother grew up together from a young age and he sees you as his sister and you can trust him a hundred percent.

But just, you know, be careful.
And start working towards renting your own place as soon as possible. You don't want to get stuck in a cycle of running after another man. Even a lovely one.

scoobysnaxx · 20/06/2025 21:47

Your updates are so lovely to read OP.

It’s just a stark reminder that THIS TOO SHALL PASS and all feelings and hard times are temporary. Yes the road might have hiccups and we might have down days or even put a step back, but we keep moving forward to happiness and contentedness 🌺

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 20/06/2025 22:07

My goodness ! Day 5 since you started your thread, and just look at today's update !!!

ThinkINeedHelp · 20/06/2025 22:36

Thanks for all your lovely words, each and everyone of you are helping me. @Sodthesystem id be very wary of all men tbh but I have known my step brother since I was nine and he was only four Smile
An early start tomorrow, I can’t wait

Ive absolutely no family. My sister died many years ago, Parents have passed away. Two step brothers, one now lives abroad and we haven’t really spoken for a few years.
The friend I was closest too is on holiday for two weeks with her grown up children and grandchildren and another who went through similar to me many years ago is now living at the opposite end of the country. I’m extremely embarrassed about my situation tbh, I’ve been a complete idiot. I do have some money though, several thousand but I’m worried sick about what the future holds.

OP - all my sympathies and very best wishes for the future, which I absolutely know will be 100% better and brighter when this pathetic aggressive oaf is out of your life. You will rise!

On a practical note, there are many ways you can live in places short-term without spending money on rent. There is no limit on how many you can do. One is pet sitting, I've friends who spend weeks staying in nice houses doing this. Buys you some time and space! The other is workaway - where you work about 5 hours a day for bed and board usually - a cool way to also discover and do things that you might enjoy or be interested in, such as farming, gardening, teaching, a whole range of all and any volunteering at all really. Have a look!

Sending solidarity and strength and honestly I know you will soon be feeling free, even if its not plain sailing at first.

Nottogetapenny · 21/06/2025 00:30

Hope you and your step brother, have a lovely weekend. Doing lots of things you did years ago. Just be safe and happy. 🌺

murasaki · 21/06/2025 00:43

I'm loving the rekindling of the step brother relationship. And visiting childhood haunts sounds fab.

notatinydancer · 21/06/2025 05:19

What an amazing thread to read @ThinkINeedHelp. You give hope to women everywhere going through what you went through.
I’d block him now , he will start pretending to be nice to try and lure you back.

Hope your life is fantastic from now on.
