Do you ever not wear deodorant?

I was just buying a deodorant subscription and it asked if you use it - multiple times a day, once or occasionally.

Are there really people who can get away without it?

Glycolic acid under the armpits everyday, but I only use deodorant if I’m going out or it’s hot because sometimes it sets my eczema off. The glycolic acid really helps and stops you being stinky. Sometimes I’ll reapply deodorant if I’ve been nervous (I am a nervous sweater), but I’m not too bad according to DP. He is HONKING tho, I personally don’t mind how he smells (actually think he smells kind of nice?? Sick freak I know) but he needs deodorant.

ninjahamster · 14/06/2025 00:01

I wear it every day and reapply if going out. Since hitting menopause Ive been more sweaty. Also on meds that I think increase it.

I only know a couple of people who don’t wear it and claim they don’t need it.

They do.

EBearhug · 14/06/2025 00:39

I usually don't - I mostly wear natural fibres, I wash every day, I swim a fair bit (washes the sweat off as you go along,) and I work in a fairly fiercely air conditioned office. This is mostly because of the IT equipment, but may also be an attempt to counteract some colleagues who are less well acquainted with soap.

I do shave my armpits though, for those suggesting a correlation between no deodorant and no shaving upthread.

I have had more than one man suggest I smell lovely.

Absolutely not, it’s like my routine, on in the morning, when I arrive at work, sometimes in between, and then before I go to bed.

Deodorant before bed?! 😂

SnowFrogJelly · 14/06/2025 00:55

Once a day in the morning is fine

Deodorant before bed?! 😂

I use one that’s meant to be applied at night
i shower at night then put it on and it doesn’t need applying again in the morning

healthyteeth · 14/06/2025 02:26

I only use it occasionally if it’s a big day out somewhere.
I can’t bring myself to put toxic shit in such a delicate place near my breasts and lymph nodes. Especially as most contain aluminium.
I do WFH though so can have a quick wash if I need to.
Can understand why people who work in an office etc need to use it. Such a difficult dilemma.

VoltaireMittyDream · 14/06/2025 02:29

I use anti-perspirant deodorant every morning & re-apply in the afternoon.

I have a heinously overactive left armpit. My right armpit would probably be OK with one application a day.

TheSandgroper · 14/06/2025 05:01

I was working outside at one point and, in an Australian summer, it’s hot and dirty. I eventually really that every pore in my body was wide open and pouring sweat except the strips under my arms where I had antiperspirant. So I gave it up and have never missed it. I do use a spray of smellie in the mornings.

Some years later, I was chatting with a colleague and it came up. “But you don’t smell”, she said and was totally amazed.

Tinybirdie · 14/06/2025 05:13

I barely sweat but would stink like an onion with no deodorant

StarlightLady · 14/06/2025 06:57

I travel a lot for work. I often sit next to people on trains and planes who clearly don’t know what it is. 🤮

Purplerain1144 · 14/06/2025 07:03

I forget a few times a month probably. I don't really sweat from my armpits though and have never noticed an odour

yourefreetodowhatyouwanttodo · 14/06/2025 07:11

Days I work from home I rub lemon on my u underarms in the shower morning and night.

it really cleanses it out and stops the sweating

lots of water
deodorant only if I’m going out

TENSsion · 14/06/2025 07:17

It’s a gen Z thing.

We have lots of younger staff and I noticed around half of them (mainly the males) have really terrible body odour. So I looked it up and found this…

“A recent trend among younger generations, including Gen Z, indicates a decline in deodorant usage. A YouGov poll found that nearly 40% of 18-24 year olds hadn't used deodorant or antiperspirant in the past month, and a similar percentage hadn't purchased it in the last year.”

What did you expect an 'antiperspirant' to do to sweating i.e. perspiration?

tarheelbaby · 14/06/2025 07:24

I haven't for years. People who would tell me (DH, DSis, DM) have never mentioned it. I even asked DH and he confirmed that I was not smelly. (OTOH, he definitely needed deoderant and a fresh shirt every day)

BeckyBloom · 14/06/2025 07:25

Have never worn it as my sweat doesn’t smell and I found out years ago it’s due to having dry ear wax!!!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/06/2025 22:58

I wear it mostly out of habit. I don't smell without it. I could certainly go all winter without wearing it.

I’m exactly the same. On the rare occasion I forget, I don’t smell. The only time I actually did smell was when I tried my husband’s natural deodorant which was a surprise.

Meetmeundertheclock · 14/06/2025 07:29

In the morning and if changing to go out, whatever is on offer in Boots.
Partner never used it. He had a beard so would splash aftershave on his chest. Odd thing was, that on him the scent soon died away. It just died. But no BO smell.
Is it a difference between male and female?

cariadlet · 14/06/2025 07:40

I haven't worn deodorant for years. I have a shower in the morning so I'm clean. There's enough fragrance in my soap/shower gel and shampoo.

I have a fairly sedentary job so don't get sweaty during the day. If I do get sweaty because I've been exercising or I'm on holiday somewhere very hot, I prefer to have a shower to cool down and wash off the sweat rather than cover it up with deodorant.

KPPlumbing · 14/06/2025 07:51

I don't need to wear it on a work from home day, or if I'm just pottering at the weekend. If I'm wearing natural fibres, and I'm not in air con, I don't sweat. Conversely, on an office day, I wear Driclor, which is the nuclear stuff that makes your armpits burn and seals them shut for the day!

Girasoli · 14/06/2025 08:19

DH never does...lots of East Asian people don't have the gene that causes BO.

I wear aluminium free stuff.

cupfinalchaos · 14/06/2025 08:24

Since menopause things have changed and I barely sweat or smell at all (on HRT) so probably don’t need deodorant but use it out of habit.

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/06/2025 08:25

I never use it. I didn’t grow underarm hair, they just stayed bald so I don’t know if that’s made a difference. I don’t get BO.

Zanatdy · 14/06/2025 08:25

Every morning. Today I applied a double dose as it’s quite humid.
