Do you ever not wear deodorant?

I was just buying a deodorant subscription and it asked if you use it - multiple times a day, once or occasionally.

Are there really people who can get away without it?

Absolutely not, it’s like my routine, on in the morning, when I arrive at work, sometimes in between, and then before I go to bed.

SoftPillow · 13/06/2025 22:58

I usually wear it daily, but sometimes forget. I have to use the stick type or I get a bit stinky with the spray on ones.

My DH never wears it, doesn’t own any. He never smells, never. Infuriating.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/06/2025 22:58

I wear it mostly out of habit. I don't smell without it. I could certainly go all winter without wearing it.

Always wear it. I'm not a very sweaty person but I tried using a natural deodorant ( non antiperspirant) and I was sticky and smelt of faint BO so I need an antiperspirant.

SquashedMallow · 13/06/2025 23:02

On the day's I've forgotten to put it on.... Boy do I realise later in the day.... So yup, deffo daily for me.

I do have some colleagues from a different culture that don't wear deodorant and..... Not pleasant 😬 I think one lady in particular smelt awful every shift. But management felt so awkward raising it with her as a hygiene issue , as one that's embarrassing anyway, and 2 as she was of a different background ethnically and culturally it was too sensitive. And yes she definitely didn't wear deodorant, someone tactfully asked her once in a non confrontational way and she said no and never had.

PickledOnionOverdose · 13/06/2025 23:03

Since lockdown I haven't got back into the habit of wearing it. I WFH so don't bother putting any on. Am nearly 60 now and don't have all the hormonal sweat I used to get when younger.

If going out somewhere with friends I will have a spritz with body spray but just going out to the pub or shop with DH, don't usually bother.

SquashedMallow · 13/06/2025 23:04

Also an ex boyfriend once didn't believe in deodorant. Religious reasons apparently, although I'm not quite sure the finer details. At first I quote enjoyed the musty masculine aroma. I did quickly tire of it though.... 😬

AliceMcK · 13/06/2025 23:06

When I was younger I could get away without it, especially in winter but by late 20s and living in a warmer climate I as wearing it daily. I reapply multiple times a day now. I don’t smell but I don’t like sweating.

I think there are many who believe in the au natural lifestyle, I’m guessing those who don’t shave tend not to wear it.

I also know people why prefer baby powder or talc. My DF, DB and DH all hate deodorant and prefer powder.

Blarn · 13/06/2025 23:06

I have to, every day. I seriously smell without it even though I'm not very sweaty.

LucieChardon · 13/06/2025 23:13

I never wear deodorant or antiperspirant.

I only smell when I exercise, but then I shower fairly quickly afterwards.

DH says I have almost no body smell, even sweaty my scent is very faint apparently.

Berlinlover · 13/06/2025 23:21

I wear it every day although since having chemo last year I don’t seem as sweaty under my arms. My feet have become very sweaty though.

Nugg · 13/06/2025 23:21

I wear it daily but I’m not a sweaty person so could easily get away with not

Moveoverdarlin · 13/06/2025 23:22

In winter I can easily get away with not wearing it everyday. Days I work from home I definitely wouldn’t bother.

ThisUsernameIsNowTaken · 13/06/2025 23:23

Not often. I don't smell. Wouldn't have been able to get away without it when I was in my teens and twenties. It's definitely related to hormones.

tillyandmilly · 13/06/2025 23:26

Needs to use every day - get hot even sitting still!

SortthisoutpleaseJesus · 13/06/2025 23:29

I had to teach my ex boyfriend about deodorant. He never bought one before I insisted on it. ugh grim.
I always do.

Silsatrip · 13/06/2025 23:30

In winter I could manage without, especially when wearing cotton.

In summer...nope

raysan · 13/06/2025 23:41

I sometimes forget... but as PPs have said, it is noticeably smelly

uncomfortablydumb60 · 13/06/2025 23:46

Since menopause, I don't sweat under my arms but I still apply after a shower as force of habit

MelaniesLaugh · 13/06/2025 23:48

I don’t and I don’t smell

Anna42 · 13/06/2025 23:50

I never wear it. So many horrendous studies about the impact on oneself and the environment. I wear natural fibres (I notice a huge difference with man made) and shower daily. I also exercise often and get sweaty. No complaints from DP, and I do ask and check myself too. Maybe my body has adjusted somehow or maybe it's perimenopause, but it's absolutely fine for me to go without. And I do shave!

MsTamborineMan · 13/06/2025 23:52

I do occasionally forget but tbh if I do I absolutely reek fairly quickly. And I feel uncomfortable sticky, no way could I get away with not wearing it on the regular

Even with spray I get that stale deodorant smell, and again a sticky feeling. I have to use the stick deodorants, but generally find that lasts all day

jjeoreo · 13/06/2025 23:53

Great question. I haven't really thought about it, but...if I'm working yes always
If I'm just at home with the kids I don't. My husband has never worn deodorant, just aftershave. I like the way he smells.

MsTamborineMan · 13/06/2025 23:54

When I was a teen there was a lady I worked with whot tried to convince me deodorant was unnatural and the devil's work, and you didn't need it, she'd not worn it for years and no one could tell. You could definitely tell

Ever since I've been paranoid.

Christwosheds · 13/06/2025 23:55

I don’t really need to wear it unless I’m very stressed or in a man made fibre. I do usually wear deodorant though, just in case, although I hardly ever wear anti-perspirant .
