Do you ever not wear deodorant?

I was just buying a deodorant subscription and it asked if you use it - multiple times a day, once or occasionally.

Are there really people who can get away without it?

No. Some people don't smell. Some people do. I would if I didn't.

And maybe some people are more or less sensitive to the smell of other people’s body odour.

Edited: just looked it up and this is definitely a thing. No “maybe” about it.

DepositSaverUpper · 14/06/2025 14:23

If i forget I never smell. But as a rule yes everyday.

Sunnysideup999 · 14/06/2025 14:26

A lot of people on here saying they don’t smell . Just curious - how do you know?
i find it impossible to smell myself - and am therefore paranoid and never go without anti perspirant deodorant

But there is NO body odor to smell or be sensitive to.

I can smell body odor just fine. But not if its not there.

I'm allergic to deo - it makes my skin very itchy and sore so I just wash several times a day with flannel and bar soap - works fine.

OofyProsser2 · 14/06/2025 14:31

I wear it infrequently and even then it’s a natural one that I’m not sure does anything. Just not a big sweater [/princeandrew]

HarryVanderspeigle · 14/06/2025 14:31

I use pitrock for most of the year, as that prevents smells. It isn't antiperspirant though, so I do use that in summer or I am sweaty.

Almostwelsh · 14/06/2025 14:32

I wash under my arms with hot water and soap. If I do this every morning I don't need anti perspirant. I soon notice the smell of BO on myself and my clothes if I don't wash, so I don't think it's a case of me being nose blind to it.

Danceswithweasels · 14/06/2025 14:35

I WFH a lot of the time so usually just have a swipe of natural deodorant, same at the Weekend unless it's really not weather. But if I am going to the office or meetings I use a good antiperspirant, as stress and hot offices will make me sweaty and smelly really quickly.

Perhaps, instead of getting angry and defensive, you might read around the topic? It’s quite interesting

Angry and defensive? Haha

Cherrycola4 · 14/06/2025 14:42

I was advised to stop wearing it when I was breastfeeding sixteen years ago. I’ve never worn it since, don’t sweat much and don’t smell. Husband doesn’t wear it either and his natural sweat smells lovely to me.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 14/06/2025 15:14

I rarely wear it. I got out of the habit when WFH and then realised that I didn’t actually need it so stopped using it. I do wear it if I’m going out, just in case!

LoafofSellotape · 14/06/2025 20:56

I wonder if all these poster who claim they don't smell really don't or in reality they do? There are so many people who absolutely honk and it can't be just because they don't care.

Anna42 · 14/06/2025 21:22

I can smell it when I do! Then, I wash properly, consign that top to oblivion. And not otherwise!

LuckyShark · 14/06/2025 21:31

I have dry earwax too. And I never wear deodorant or smell. Never knew they were related.

I know I don't smell as I would soon be told by my DC or DH and most definitely by my Mother.

I know I can pick up cooking smells on my clothes and hair but if I didnt have to go into smelly environments and get smells put on me iykwim I could go days without showering and not smell any different, as long as I can clean my teeth
(I've done this in hospital, and smelt the same as always)

I do shower at least every other day - I've exceptionally dry skin so every other day and a full sink wash is better for me.

I dont even sweat when I'm hot or doing exercise, which is annoying as its something your body needs to do to regulate. So heat and hard exercise can make me feel ill.

Lifelover16 · 14/06/2025 21:33

Only wear it if I’m going out somewhere. I hardly sweat since menopause.
I had to reapply antiperspirants every couple of hours in teens/twenties/thirties .

WelshMoth · 14/06/2025 21:49

I often go without.
I’ve made my own deodorant for the last 6 years and it took my body a while to adjust and (apparently) de-tox from the nasties of the shop bought stuff. I wear mostly natural fibres and I just don’t sweat or smell.

That said, if I wear man made, I can almost guarantee I’ll whiff.

Agree with pp’s, hormones play a big part.

No, never.

In my teens, 20s, 30s, I had to wear deodorant every day, armpits on overdrive, generally a very warm/hot running person anyway, but my pits were the actual pits - couldn't wear any colour apart from dark/white without a liberal layer of Driclor (which made my skin horribly itchy).
Now, perimenopausal, weirdly, I don't sweat from my armpits unless working out, so rarely wear deodorant - no idea why/how, just another odd symptom of the ageing process.

DH smells different in different situations. The worst is stressy-sitting-in-traffic odour. He'll smell if he's been exercising, but it's less sharp and is a more normal smell.

There must be different hormones released affecting the smell coming off and its pungency.

I find using bar soap on my arm pits goes a lot further than shower gel. Also making sure that I'm well dried and not sweaty from the shower.

I use anti-perspirant before going out around other people, but if it's just me mooching around and not much of a sweat trigger, I'll let my skin breathe.

Daffodilsarefading · 15/06/2025 07:33

Yes I wear it daily. Usually only apply once a day, unless I’m hot and going out again, then I’d spray myself again. I tried not using it once in my 20s. I think there was a lot of negative stories about anti perspirant of something. Anyway, I caught a smell of BO after work and it was from me! Always used it after that.

Daffodilsarefading · 15/06/2025 07:38

I avoid man made fibres too. Still wouldn’t go without anti perspirant but then again I work with other people.

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 15/06/2025 07:45

I have to wear it daily - I work outdoors in a physical job and take medication that makes me sweat and struggle to control my temperature 😩

BearPear · 15/06/2025 07:56

Since menopause my sweat smells very different, I have started to use a body scrub on my underarms and it’s making a difference. I don’t generally smell or sweat a lot and don’t wear deodorant most days. I can definitely tell when it’s needed though, I’m not oblivious to my own smell - I often bury my nose in the pits of the clothes I have worn just to check!
