@BIossomtoes she consistently asks Starmer to apologise in PMQs. A foolish ask.

Just leaves the door wide open for him to say it's not his place to apologise for the failings in government 2010-2024, but he would be happy to do it on her behalf.

(Is what I would say).

bombastix · 17/06/2025 12:05

I liked this comment by Casey;

"I think the problem is that people are worried about being called racist.... if good people don't grasp difficult things, bad people will, and that's why we have to do it as a society."

placemats · 17/06/2025 12:05

If I correctly recall he's already said that but still she persists. @SerendipityJane

It’s okay, apparently apologies are not very important now….

I have apologised, but what I find extraordinary is that more people are interested in prosecuting a government that did some things … rather than looking at what needs to happen right now ….
No one here has asked me for more apologies. They have heard the apologies. Apologies are easy. What we need to see is action.
We can sit here and say sorry all day long, but what I actually want to see is an inquiry that gets at the bottom of this.

what I actually want to see is an inquiry that gets at the bottom of this.

Given most of it happened on the Tory watch this is surprising.

bombastix · 17/06/2025 12:16

Ah she rowed back on that and said the Government who did some things shouldn’t be looked at!

also the four union jacks in the background gave a bizarre air to the whole thing

@cardibach My daughter lives in Whitechapel. I love visiting and the diversity is so refreshing. Never feel threatened.

Same. I stayed there last year because I wanted to explore that bit of London but felt so comfortable there I chose to stay there this time.

SerendipityJane · 17/06/2025 13:43

Interesting. The subhead could almost be:

"Reform UK: Who moved the pork barrels ?"

Big business cottoned on years ago that they could fleece nations under the guise of "saving the planet". Which is why an entire industry - with the dependencies that means - has built up around it.

This is one of the problems with millionaires playing politics. They forget how many people they need to vote for them have "jobs" with the companies that have gathered around the trough.

Reform UK’s green energy dilemma: rhetoric vs reality?

Reform’s Richard Tice is fighting a losing battle against the case for net zero, with a mixture of myths and misconceptions as his weapons

Today MPs will be voting on the decriminalisation of abortion in England and Wales.

The vote starts at 7pm. I hope Tonia Antoniazzi's amendment gets through.

So do I.
There seems to have been very little coverage of it - or maybe that just reflects what I am reading.

grannycake · 17/06/2025 17:10

Tonia is my MP. She’s fantastic

Piggywaspushed · 17/06/2025 17:39

I think the non coverage of it reflects, I hope, that this is perhaps seen as a non issue thing by the media who see the government as just moving with the times, and about time too. One of those votes that will just easily pass. Very different from the US.

I haven't heard anyone mention it in the wild.

Only in certain places on MN where some posters could start a fight in an empty house.

I suspect something more sinister myself. Imagine if this bill were to pass, and all of a sudden team Trump said "You know that trade deal ? I don't like this law, maybe we won't have a trade deal no more ...."

If only the UK didn't speak English.

I’m Cardiff-ish. I hear great things about her from Swansea friends.

The DUP can just fuck right off.

I really hope this passes.

Notonthestairs · 17/06/2025 18:59

Unwoman??

Excellent interview with Baroness Casey on the Newsagents. Very impressive.

He said Creasy’s amendment new clause 20 “would fully repeal all the existing laws that prohibit abortion in any circumstances at any gestation both in relation to a woman undergoing an abortion, and abortion providers or clinicians performing abortions”.

Referring to Antoniazzi’s new clause one, he told MPs it would “not be illegal for a woman to carry out her own abortion at home solely on the basis that the foetus is female” and added: “So, these amendments are not pro-woman. They would introduce sex-selective abortion.”

He can fuck off back to 1861

I am reading Jon Sopel's book at the moment by the way. It's excellent. Recommend it to all!

Ooohh, bit of a racist dog whistle snuck in there too?

All of Reform can also fuck right off.

Can you tell I'm a little bit militant about this law change?

To the far side of fuck. About this law change and all the others.
