You know what ? If the schools teach, if the hospitals teach, if children don't go hungry, if every subject can feel secure, safe and valued ... if we can all work to that than I give no fucks how many people may - or may not - "come over here".

Exactly.

SerendipityJane · 14/06/2025 15:13

Exxactly. This isn't an echo chamber -

Yes, it's not an echo chamber.

Or (even funnier depending on your level of humour😂)

Oh yes it is !

BestIsWest · 14/06/2025 15:32

Ha, inadvertently proving a point sorry! I miss the laugh emoji.

Notonthestairs · 14/06/2025 15:45

I'd be interested in the answer to Saucery's question at 13.07.

What is it you want the Government to do differently?

Saucery · 14/06/2025 16:52

I mean, I’m genuinely interested in answers, but not so interested in posters who just want to Plop The Boats over and over .
There seems to be a fair amount of catching the gangs arranging the crossings too, which also seems like a good idea. I just can’t see what else a government can do that doesn’t involve putting lives in danger, and whether the people on the boats are ultimately entitled to be accepted under asylum rules or not, they all have the basic right to not be drowned because of anything our government does.

You can only catch the operators so far up the chain.

The apex - where millions are being trousered - will be ensuring they donate to the right political connections to make sure they are immune to the fate of their soldiers who (obviously) have no idea where the crown lies. .

It isn't an echo chamber here, but you seem to be a one issue poster on these threads and I think many of us find it a bit tedious.

Why don't you set up a thread dedicated to the number of crossings each day? I am sure it would get plenty of attention.

Edited

What a soul destroying thread that would be for everyone involved!

For the same reason Brexiteers hid in the Tory party.

Government has announced a national inquiry into grooming gangs.

I just saw this. I think it’s a mistake. There’s just been one and its recommendations haven’t been fully implemented (if at all). This will just delay action further plus there’ll be another round of ‘too little too late/u turn/ Nige made them do it’. It’s getting tiresome.

Notonthestairs · 14/06/2025 19:23

The Jay Inquiry recommendations havent been put into action (yet). Are we just ignoring those for now?

Notonthestairs · 14/06/2025 19:25

Or am I confusing one Inquiry with another?

DuncinToffee · 14/06/2025 19:29

The recommendations from the Jay inquiry can still be implemented, I think

Not a lot of detail about the content of this new inquiry

And Badenoch can STFU after she and the government she was in failed implementing the recommendations.

Don't hold back @DuncinToffee 😃 say what you feel.

Notonthestairs · 14/06/2025 19:39

Yes, the Jay Inquiry report is dated 2022 so there has been time to implement them.

It looks like Louise Casey (Baroness?) has made a number of recommendations for a national inquiry which will modelled like a commissioners office so it will be able to instigate local inquiries without the agreement of the relevant local authority. The 5 existing local inquiries will continue but presumably under Casey's office (?).

Trump didn’t seem to enjoy his parade much (have made the image sensitive as nobody should see his face without prep time).

I saw that Donald Trump today.

He looked depressed.

DuncinToffee · 15/06/2025 10:36

I shared a similar one on the Trump thread without the sensitive warning 😅

A great advert for the power of prayer then.

I have had a wonderful day away from the news, flinging pointy sticks in a disused quarry and actually doing it well enough to get a prize.

I'm not doing politics today.

DuncinToffee · 15/06/2025 19:22

Sounds intriguing Pointy, did you have a target to aim at?

sounds like a great day and well done on your prize Flowers

I spent the morning helping DS swim club with a novice gala and this afternoon we did a tip run and fashioned a way to attach his hold-all to the back of his wheelchair because him and his (one armed!) friend are flying to Scotland next week.
