I nearly stopped at the 5th roundabout just to have a cry.

I wouldn’t blame anyone who did that. I’m so grateful I’ll probably never have to go to Hemel again.

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2025 19:05

I am always so very thankful for UK's gun laws and our measured, decisive and swift response at the time of the Dunblane shootings.

placemats · 10/06/2025 19:10

That roundabout in Hemel Hempstead is legend and if you get through it unscathed then it's a bucket list tick. (Crying is allowed as are all the fecking curses). Been there done it.

I have often said on MN that crossings are weather dependent and it makes sense to up security even more on warmer, calmer days when more migrants cross. Last week or the week before when over 100 crossed in one day was an embaressment to the Labour Party, it's not as if they don't know this would happen.

I am sure that last week you were surprised by the weather and crossings.

cakeorwine · 10/06/2025 19:42

Clearly the media aren't going to say that no one crossed recently.

But the Conservative party were very quick to dismiss the weather as a factor.

Different rules eh...

Here it is.

The sign is a thing of legend.

I'm sure I've seen that in one of my Chemistry books.

DuncinToffee · 10/06/2025 19:55

Just reading the description of that roundabout gives me palpitations 😬

It makes the Dutch one look perfectly meek.

LlttledrummergirI · 10/06/2025 20:13

We had to use that roundabout a few months ago. Dh got off at the earliest opportunity and we found an alternative route!

PickAChew · 10/06/2025 22:40

SerendipityJane · 10/06/2025 21:12

But can they cope with the magic roundabout ?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwynm4wl1j7o

Sorry. This service is nor available in your selected area.

Surely they're a long way off being legal on public roads. DH rear ended someone in our EV in January and he reacted before the sensors alerted him. They were no better than him at making allowances for a damp, muddy road. If the situation arose again, even he would remember that he needs way, way more than a 2 second gap (I'm one of those vilified non drivers but considered the highway code essential reading at 6) but the so called intelligent systems in the car won't have learned to account for Co Durham hills and mud running off the fields

That doesn’t mean you are safe. There’s one in Swindon too.

I doubt I’ll ever drive in Swindon. I’ve never even been there.

I'm not getting the point of 2 o'clock on that one.

No. And I’m not volunteering to go and drive round it to find out.

BIossomtoes · 10/06/2025 22:55

Oh go on, take one for the team 😂

I have a friend who used to work in Swindon. Maybe she’d be willing to…

PickAChew · 10/06/2025 23:00

If there is one thing we have up here in't north it's common sense roads....

Only problem is the A1(M) in the Northeast forgot common sense and has whole sections where you think you're being that righteous driver in the left hand lane because you don't need to be in the middle lane and suddenly find yourself filtered off into streets of terraced houses that all look the same with no idea how to escape.

bombastix · 10/06/2025 23:08

cardibach · 10/06/2025 22:45

Why? Why has someone done this?

Deafnotdumb · 11/06/2025 00:00

That's...just wrong. And I speak as someone eho has navigated Coventry ring-road, Spaghetti Junction and the fake traffic light roundabout at Greenwich.

PickAChew · 11/06/2025 00:03

😵‍💫

BestIsWest · 11/06/2025 09:14

Mind blown. I sort of don’t get the point of all of it. Why?? Ynysforgan roundabout is probably the worst we have to offer down this way.

pointythings · 11/06/2025 09:58

We have an excellent bad roundabout near King's Lynn, mostly due to the way the lanes are laid out. You have to cross two lanes as you pass every exit. It's terrifying and I avoid it.
