If somebody gave you £500- what would you do with it?

Just that really
Imagine someone gave you £500 in cash and told you to spend it - what would you buy?
House stuff allowed too but not paying off any debt - so you have to buy something.
Bonus points for links!

I'm not in need of £500. I'd make an anonymous donation to a single mum I know who needs some work doing on her car.

I've been thinking of doing it anyway, but unsure whether it might freak her out. If I had a windfall, I'd take that as an omen that I should do it.

DatingDinosaur · 23/05/2025 17:18

I'd book a mid-week break in a cottage in the countryside.

DrCoconut · 23/05/2025 17:20

Sometimes the relief of being able to pay some debt off is a much better gift than an item. But I'd probably use it for a holiday if it had to be spent on a luxury type item.

ItsSoFoggy · 23/05/2025 17:20

Definitely a holiday - a mini break somewhere.

Overtheatlantic · 23/05/2025 17:24

I would pass it along to my niece who is struggling with ill health and is a youngish mum.

DublinLaLaLa · 23/05/2025 17:25

Weekend in London.

Growlybear83 · 23/05/2025 17:30

I would by perfume and a couple of bags.

MoistVonL · 23/05/2025 17:34

What I like to think I’d do is take us all out to see a play. But what I’d actually do in reality is buy new sleepers for restoring the raised pond in the garden.

EmeraldDreams73 · 23/05/2025 17:43

I'd like to say, refresh my boring Vinted wardrobe. But in reality it would be used towards repointing the house which HAS to be done this summer.

If that was already done, let me loose in a massive antiques fair and I could smash that amount in seconds!

level13dangerzone · 23/05/2025 17:44

I would booked an unplugged cabin and sleep for 3 days 😅

FutureCatMum · 23/05/2025 18:32

A weekend away with a couple of good books, lovely food and some nice walking trails nearby.

ZekeZeke · 23/05/2025 18:35

Mum has gifted me €250, I've converted it to $ for my trip to NYC later this year.
If I'd left it in my wallet or lodged it to my account I'd have just spent it on house bills.

I'm getting a tax rebate of €590 on Monday, I'm planning on using this towards a new carpet for the stairs.

babystarsandmoon · 23/05/2025 18:37

I’d throw it into my savings account which sounds boring but I don’t need anything at the moment.

shellyleppard · 23/05/2025 18:39

I'd spend it on my family and a holiday to Scotland. We are going later this year but the money would be a welcome blessing

cherrymaoam · 23/05/2025 18:39

I’d go to the Selfridges denim studio and get a perfect pair of jeans, then spend the rest on a great massage and facial.

MissAnthr0pe · 23/05/2025 18:42

I'd put it in my wallet for the times I need to tip in cash and never seem to have any.

CharSiu · 23/05/2025 18:43

I would go to a restaurant in town with DH that has a tasting menu at 250 a head.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 23/05/2025 18:44

I'd get my car serviced tbh

or I'd spend it all in Ikea, buying wall cabinets

Or I'd get myself a new tv, I want a huge one

SaintAgatha · 23/05/2025 18:45

Furniture for our new home. I managed to rent a lovely little house for DD and I in an area which has very few private lets, and just need a few items to finish it off perfectly. After leaving my abusive ex a few years ago and navigating a series of significant challenges in my life, this house finally feels like a place I can be at peace for a while. :)

TomatoSandwiches · 23/05/2025 19:00

I want a backless stone bench, preferably used and from a reclamation yard.

This is peak MN. 😂😂

I'd buy LVT for my bedroom to match my kitchen/ lounge/ Diner and someone to paint it for me. I've been wanting it done for 9 years now

ScarletBeret · 23/05/2025 19:05

Two things I’m going to buy anyway- perfume and a pair of trainers. Then save the rest.

TortolaParadise · 23/05/2025 19:05

perfume
trainers
Next haul
Tesco groceries
