If somebody gave you £500- what would you do with it?

Just that really
Imagine someone gave you £500 in cash and told you to spend it - what would you buy?
House stuff allowed too but not paying off any debt - so you have to buy something.
Bonus points for links!

I would buy lots of craft things.

Bluespecs · 23/05/2025 19:07

I'd have some acupuncture sessions, I have been feeling awful recently due to chronic health conditions and looking after my mum with dementia, I would love some me time and to try to feel well again. £500 would be great right now.

SpottedDonkey · 23/05/2025 19:07

I would put in the pot for my next holiday.

I hope you get a windfall soon 💐

Ollybob · 23/05/2025 19:09

There's lots of little things I need for the house such as a new mattress and paint for my bedroom both of which are long overdue after 15 years! Plus stuff like I've needed a new bath panel for a while but simply have not been able to afford, nothing that's urgent but would be nice to fix stuff when it needs it rather than years later, think 500 could go far if careful.

OverpricedCupcake · 23/05/2025 19:09

I'd buy a ticket to see pulp, and a week in London.

WeylandYutani · 23/05/2025 19:09

I said craft stuff, but I would also buy a new bed. It is broken and very old.

Ruelzdontapplyhere · 23/05/2025 19:10

Summer clothes for the kids.

kerstina · 23/05/2025 19:12

A little solar powered water feature for the garden( fairy in a clam one) and more cottage garden type flowers for my garden and more solar lights too. I would also buy a beauty edit box as a little treat . I would buy some new silk underwear from Arket and some Ugg Tasman slippers as my dupes are looking very jaded.

DiaryofWimpy · 23/05/2025 19:12

Some new bedding and a better duvet and pillows. Nothing exciting 😂

FiveGoMadInDorset · 23/05/2025 19:13

£100 to Woolly Hugs
£250 on nice clothes
£150 on nice dog walking boots or craft supplies/course

Blanketenvy · 23/05/2025 19:14

I'd book in a course of massages and a few days of dog care so I could just totally rest, autistic burnout+ME and loads of parental health problems feels totally awful.

CombatBarbie · 23/05/2025 19:14

Sensible would be to put it to the credit card. Unsensible would spend it on plants as my garden is my therapy

Blanketenvy · 23/05/2025 19:14

Oh and a summer weighted blanket so I can get the benefit without the menopausal sweat! 😅

Middlechild3 · 23/05/2025 19:15

A clip on tow bar for my odd shape car so I can get a bike rack ( standard attach to car ones don't work )

LunaDeBallona · 23/05/2025 19:16

Oh I’m loving these!
Veering between putting it towards a new stair carpet, or facials/spa day or night.
l am very tempted by a single handbag I have been drooling over for quite a while too……

Every spare penny I have goes into my family holiday account.

£500 would pay for a weekend for a seaside cottage in off season. Or (as my current holiday savings are going towards a trip to Queensland) a whale watching tour off the Great Barrier Reef.

GalaxyWasOnOffer · 23/05/2025 19:18

I’d buy a fountain pen from an incredible independent company I know. They’ve just brought out a new limited edition & it’s £450. They’re made in very small numbers & it may sell out before I’ve saved enough to get it so I’d whip in now!

<sits quietly as possibly the only fountain pen collector on the board & awaits posters telling me I can get a plastic Parker for a tenner in WH Smith> 😀

BedBathAndBeyonce · 23/05/2025 19:19

Massage for me.
Meal out with the kids and then tell them they could each choose a purchase with the remainder over dinner 😊

Curlybook · 23/05/2025 17:16

I'm not in need of £500. I'd make an anonymous donation to a single mum I know who needs some work doing on her car.

I've been thinking of doing it anyway, but unsure whether it might freak her out. If I had a windfall, I'd take that as an omen that I should do it.

Edited

Oh please do this, I don’t think she would be freaked out, I think she would be delighted and you would be taking a real weight off her shoulders.

This is peak MN. 😂😂

The whole thread is peak Mumsnet.

This question is posted all the time but I've never heard of anyone in real life being given £X and told that they must spend it. Yet it seems that it happens on here almost daily.

katscamel · 23/05/2025 19:26

Pay for someone to declutter my house and sort out/buy new storage, decorate.

Hercthemerc · 23/05/2025 19:30

Some nice lupins for the garden.

I want a backless stone bench, preferably used and from a reclamation yard.

You’re my kind of woman. I too would hit the reclamation yards, though what I actually want is an old stone tank or horse trough to use as a small pond.

I think this is exciting! I am recovering from a brain/neuro condition and spend a lot of time in bed atm.
I'd love luxury pillows, duvet and sheets, then a new lamp and a sleepy room spray.
