Imagine if Rayner was made Chancellor. Certain posters would explode.

Go on, Starmer. You know you want to 🤭

derxa · 21/05/2025 13:52

In other news Steve Reed says that money gained through the farmers’ inheritance tax will go to support farmers mental health support. What a horrible bloody man.

DuncinToffee · 21/05/2025 13:53

What is wrong with supporting mental health?

And thereby demonstrating the point. Have you any idea of the stress this IHT policy has caused. He hasn’t a clue. He told farmers they should spend less on fertiliser and that would enable farmers to pay inheritance tax. The Tories were useless for us but the level of ignorance shown by SR is off the scale. It makes me feel so sad for my fellow farmers.

It’s great fun. So is the latest WFA one. School fees and freezing pensioners, the gifts that keep on giving!

What's funny about pensioners struggling with fuel bills? I know you don't need the WFA but some elderly people do.

Nothing is funny about it. The frothing by people not even affected by it is.

dontcallmelen · 21/05/2025 14:29

Pandora do hope your Dh feels a bit better very soon, must be extremely hard on you both💐

Yep.

Freezing pensioners and school children with disrupted lives.

What fun, eh?

Hmm

And I'm not going to get sucked into a debate about other children in the UK with the vastly disrupted lives of economic and social disadvantage and poverty.

Sits on hands.

pointythings · 21/05/2025 15:18

So far I have done people the courtesy of staying off our 'opposition' thread, but if they're going to come here and police us, I'll reciprocate.

So is ok for some children to have their lives disrupted?

School children are school children, as far as am concerned. You seem to divide them.

BIWI · 21/05/2025 15:20

I’m very well aware about the fuss over IHT for farmers, @derxa - you’ve been very voluble about it on these threads. But a lot of the fuss was, I believe, disproportionate - because it was based on misinformation/poor comprehension (and possibly deliberate whipping up of a frenzy about it all)

No idea about the fertiliser issue, so can’t comment on that.

But I do wonder - which is why I asked - why you think it’s so wrong to set aside funds to deal with mental health?

Haven't you brought up your children to think not every little thing is about them, there is a world beyond the individual and their self gratification. VAT on private school fees does not make a victim. But this thread isn't about that so....

As I said, I'm not getting sucked in. That's a debate for the many many specific threads, which I do not frequent.

It’s not as you put it ‘a fuss’. Many people have been waiting for years for mental health services. Do you think they would prioritise farmers?🤣. So a farmer is losing his business but here’s six sessions of therapy. This is why I stay on these threads. You’ve just dismissed my worries so airily. It reminds me how much you hold us in contempt. Do you want us to produce food or not?

BIWI · 21/05/2025 15:37

I don’t hold you in contempt at all Hmm

DuncinToffee · 21/05/2025 15:40

I assume closer ties to the EU is good for farming?

What a shame. I am quite sure he had resolved to be a fine, upstanding member of society.
