Bloody hell. Some people have no shame.

BIossomtoes · 21/05/2025 09:21

Absolutely unbelievable. Pay incompetent management because it threatened to walk instead of handing them their P45s. Make it make sense.

PickAChew · 21/05/2025 09:24

They want to keep the management that got them into the quite literal shit? I'm as not shocked as I am shocked because not much surprises me any more.

Labour have a lot to do domestically. It is their biggest problem. I don’t think they are credible on what they propose either.

There is nothing so far to indicate the strategy of getting the shit out of the way early has changed.

Notice the better than "expected" (by whom ? pray tell) trade figures last week. Some people here were less surprised than the press.

With 2-3 years for the EU trade to pick up a bit, and it's associated fillip to the exchequer, the political debate could be much altered.

Of course it's possible that 2029 we have a much improved economy, more employment, lower inflation, good growth prospects, but people still feel Farage is the answer.

PandoraSocks · 21/05/2025 10:04

"a Reform spokesperson pointed to mapping data showing the proportion of roads within the council areas not open to through-traffic. However, this would also count longer-established non-LTN roads without through traffic, such as cul-de-sacs and housing estates. It is not known whether Reform plans to open these up as through routes"

🤣🤣🤣 I am just imagining the reaction of Reformites living on a quiet no through traffic street suddenly having their peace shattered.

Well, you'll be happy to note that Thames Water is paying its executives bonuses out of its emergency £3 billion loan.
When Thames Water was privatised it didn't have any debt.

That's good news. I was starting to worry about them.

Are there any other obscenely paid utility board members struggling ? Be a shame to waste a 2-4-1 GoFundMe deal.

pointythings · 21/05/2025 10:40

The EU trade deal has really got cages rattled - someone has started a 'Starmer went to private school ' thread. The Brexiteer frothing on MN is also next level.

More posters with very short user histories.

There was a thread before the election, something about what graceful losers right wing voters are. Not sure that theory quite holds.

Beautiful view as we arrived home. Hopefully this will do for tax. Thank you for the new thread.

I think it’s a lot of Tories who absolutely knew they should have done this or something like it. Starmer probably had very similar advice to Tory governments prior, there aren’t that many options. They didn’t take the political risk and Starmer did.

Notonthestairs · 21/05/2025 11:43

Yes, we were left with limited options because of the political narratives pursued by right wingers. Boxed themselves into a corner.

I'll put good money on the Conservatives & Reform retaining the agreement at the next election.

That thread is unintentionally hilarious.

It’s great fun. So is the latest WFA one. School fees and freezing pensioners, the gifts that keep on giving!

DuncinToffee · 21/05/2025 12:21

Looks like a u-turn incoming on WFA, that is one bit of froth gone then.

They’ll start frothing about “flip flopping” now. In fact it’s already begun.

What they really want is for Starmer to call a GE. Anything less will never satisfy them.

DuncinToffee · 21/05/2025 12:27

They can always start another petition.....

It’s absolutely unbelievable what sore losers they are. Ten months in and they’re still throwing their toys out of the pram.

Yes me too. Only a total fool who throw out a permanent SPS agreement with the EU.

Welcome light relief for me! DH is currently completely bed bound and so bit stressful here at Chez Socks.

You forget, though, that many of the frothers claim to be disillusioned Labour voters.

bombastix · 21/05/2025 13:46

In that vein I am quite interested by Angela Rayner and the “leak” of her proposed taxes. Reeves is in some trouble, particularly when this WFA change has come today.

Rayner did not come up with that list all by herself. But not all of them are ridiculous, imo, and some of them are very clever. No doubt Reeves is on some shaky ground regarding her autumn budget.

Also Rayner is a lot cleverer than her detractors can see. She is a much better politician than Reeves is.
