And thereby demonstrating the point. Have you any idea of the stress this IHT policy has caused. He hasn’t a clue. He told farmers they should spend less on fertiliser and that would enable farmers to pay inheritance tax. The Tories were useless for us but the level of ignorance shown by SR is off the scale. It makes me feel so sad for my fellow farmers.

Farming can be a v stressful business, long before this IHT announcement.

Additional support was needed long ago now, its good they will be getting it.

Everyone has to pay IHT, inc family businesses, if above the TH, Farmers have a very generous scheme to work within.

One thing i've learnt though is Farmers are never happier than when they are complaining.

and you've proved that point derxa

I love how no one reads these threads and realise how politically diverse we are but come form threads aimed at one train of conversation to accuse us of having one train of conversation on a thread they could read and discover otherwise on.

I think the only thing we have in common without question politically is a disgust at reform!

BIossomtoes · 21/05/2025 18:48

We’re not keen on Tories either @itsgettingweird!

I agree. At present I am disappointed in Labour, worried about Reform, still disgusted at the Tories and somewhat bemused by the Lib Dems.

You've just reminded me that I need to have polenta again soon.

Cheguevarahamster · 21/05/2025 19:11

Thanks a bunch. I now have the popicker's theme in my head. And what a cracking tune it is.

Mmm....haven't had polenta for ages. Might consider it for next week's meal plan.

BIossomtoes · 21/05/2025 20:17

Oh dear, the Starmer private school thread has just gone properly bonkers!

It has!

Well, Reform did dangle 20% tax relief on fees in front of them.
I’m sure Farage will offer similar again.

I’m currently disgusted at the Tories too. As a centric voter the true one nation Tories have some alliance with my politics. Not this current lot. And certainly have no alliance with my Tory MP!

Labour will be plonked in that category if Starmer goes any further right than he is currently. I want Labour to be Labour.

I hope Carla remains in the greens. I think I’m going there next!!!

Im going to be taking this swinging voter lark to a whole new level 😉

It always does. It's always bonkers.

cakeorwine · 21/05/2025 22:04

I do wonder if Labour would ever look at proportional representation.
I don't think they would have anything to lose, and it would certainly be something radical.

Reform wouldn't oppose it.

It would just add an interesting mix to our politics.

placemats · 21/05/2025 22:11

Personally I love when a PM does a U Turn. It's a politics.

And no way is it a win for Reform either, because Andrea Jenkyns supported the means tested WFA.

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2025 22:13

Full disclosure - I'm not sure what polenta is or what it is for.

its a bit of self deprecating humour about the Blair years. Polenta is Italian peasant food by origin, but got elevated during the Blair years in rather expensive Islington restaurants. It’s basically porridge

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2025 22:19

I think it's yellow but that might be cous cous? I have very basic food tastes...

bombastix · 21/05/2025 22:21

Yes it’s yellow. So too is cous cous

derxa · 21/05/2025 22:24

Well done Spurs from an Arsenal household.

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2025 22:24

Well, that's just silly.

Polenta is made from maize. Cous cous is a form of wheat. Both can be used in sweet as well as savoury dishes - to class it as porridge isn't doing it justice. Polenta makes a fabulous lemon cake for people who are gluten free. Cous cous is a great carrier of salads (basically you can dress it with salad dressings, add things like cherry tomatoes, nuts and seeds, crumbled feta etc.) and it is also delicious with Moroccan style casseroles.

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2025 22:29

I came home from choir and my menfolk were running around the living room shouting and hugging. And yet complaining.

It's very hard to ever know if Spurs fans are actually happy.

You lost me at maize...

But I think I may have actually had it in cake!
