I assume closer ties to the EU is good for farming?

The easing of red tape for exports is good news However I saw a report on local news about sausage exporters. They claimed that the French customs made it impossible. The business made sure that the goods were at the required temperature but they were often rejected. It’s your naive belief that rejoining the EU would transform everything. All farmers across Europe get subsidies if they take steps to improve the environment. However the English farmers had applications closed down because of lack of funds. That would still have happened in England whether we were in or out. This government especially doesn’t value farmers like the French government values its farmers. It’s different in Scotland. We are having a much gentler change. Whatever you might say above the SNP they have worked much more closely with us.

So far I have done people the courtesy of staying off our 'opposition' thread, but if they're going to come here and police us, I'll reciprocate.

You're being childish, I go on any thread.

Conservative MP says that the 94% of all children who go to one of the schools his party was in charge of for the past 14 years will have a darker future in which their dreams will be "stifled" and their opportunities "crushed"

Graham Stuart served under Truss. Safe to say he wasn't worried about school children under her administration - or at any point during austerity.

What a shame. I am quite sure he had resolved to be a fine, upstanding member of society.

I find it telling that - assuming Musk and the Magitones remember who Yaxley Lennon is - that this could be viewed as a deliberate message outside the UK.

Obviously it isn't - no one in this government is remotely capable of such studied indolence.

Oh, hang on. I could imagine Lord Mandelsons shadow over this ...

If it hadn't been for "the blob" they would have had a world class introduction to looking at very small things, like UK GDP. Which I suspect could be fitted 1,000,000 times over inside the benefits of Brexit, and still not trouble dust.

Oh, I’m on so many threads now, I didn’t even realise this was the Starmer Special.

Posters on here and posters in general are frowned upon and piled upon and even reported if they post on the "Labour isn't working thread" without toeing the agreed line. Is that thread the Reform Special?

Notonthestairs · 21/05/2025 16:40

Truss blamed the Blob, Mark Carney (2 years after he left the BoE), the BoE generally, the Anti Growth Coalition and the Financial Times.
Credit where it's due.

Yep. Double standards.

The EU trade deal has really got cages rattled - someone has started a 'Starmer went to private school ' thread. The Brexiteer frothing on MN is also next level.

I pointed out this was old news. They’d even quoted the bit about it not being fee paying when he started and it being state.

it’s been fine to death that one!!!

itsgettingweird · 21/05/2025 16:46

Thankyou to whoever posted the inflation year in year up thread.

It was very interesting. First year Tories were in it rose from -0.5% to 4.5%.

then went down to 1-2% for a few years but has hovered about 3-4% for a lot longer than I realised. it would be good if a few years into this new trade deal it goes back to 1-2% again.

I'm OK. I love the SNP!

Thank you. Where else can there be a total overload of Guardian reading cat owning Europhiles on this site?

You know, the polenta classes

I'm a Ready Salted Crisps, ginger nuts and the occasional bit of toast girl.

But yes to everything else, especially cats.

So, closer trade ties with the EU mean the WFA can be restored. Looks like a win to me. Only a wanker would be upset over that, surely ?

Yeah just saw that they are going to look into restoring it (possibly only partially to include more people).

I saw Dianne Abbott on GMB before work and she was very scathing of Starmer not following Labour values.

You're being childish, I go on any thread.

How is it childish to not go on a thread where I

  1. Am going to be reading views and values that are diametrically opposed to mine, which
  2. Will not prompt anyone to think again, no matter how much evidence I provide that they at the very least could do with some nuance, and
  3. Where the majority of posters are completely wedded to a single ideology, which is Everything Labour Do Is Wrong?

People like to slate this thread series as a Labour fan club - well, they clearly need to work on their reading comprehension. On here, I agree with some things, disagree with others and am generally treated with respect and not policed. Why would I want to get into the metaphorical fight with the pigeon? I also try to stay off benefit bashing threads, for the same reason.

Reform would love nothing better than to win in Scotland and Wales. They can't win in Northern Ireland - not going to happen, but no doubt they'll have a go.

Total annihilation is the aim for Reform.

I thought you were having a dig at me for 'policing' this thread as you put it because I also go on the other thread and that you were only going to go on the other thread because posters on there are coming on here. That would be childish. If you don't want to post on the other thread anyway I'm not sure what you have a problem with.

The issue is many people don't believe he is doing this because of an EU deal not even concluded... i'm not sure i do either.... its pretty obvious he has been forced into rewinding the WFA policy, because of his own and Labours polling.

I don't think any form u-turn on WFA will improve Labours appeal in the short term, they've a real problem with voters switching to other parties, not least the LDs.

I have a problem with people, especially those from the other thread, coming on here and trying to police what and how we post. We don't do it to them - why can't they accord us the same courtesy?

No, I was never going to go on there just for the hell of it - I have cats to cuddle.

bombastix · 21/05/2025 18:39

Look I’m not interested in going into the virtual equivalent of the right wing of this thread. They are allowed to have their space on MN. No bothering me, I won’t bother them. Most of them I assume feel the same way as base politeness
