Worst aspects of hot weather

For me it’s
-Wasps, flies in the house, and bastardy bitey bugs.
Spent yesterday evening in the garden watering the veggies and I got bitten in 6 different places.

It’s all clothing related.

first in that I detest my flab and don’t seem to be able to dress myself in anything that doesn’t make me feel either even more flabby or like a German hiker.

Then I’ll settle on a pair of shorts but no matter how well they fit, the bastards ride up my inner thigh so I keep having to do this weird little leg kick as I’m walking every 10 seconds so they drop down.

And if I go with a skirt or dress (that doesn’t make me feel like a tent), I have to wear chub run shorts which just make me sweaty.

Oh, and the heat flares up my dermatitis so my hands feel like they’re on fire.

I actually love the summer, I just have a body that does not.

Sorry the leg kick thing made me laugh; I know exactly what you mean!
Have you tried a generous application of antiperspirant to your inner thighs instead of the shorts? Mitchum roll on, or a solid stick like the extra strong dove / sure.

scalt · 14/05/2025 18:44

Mumsnetters moaning about the heat, which we only get for a very short time each year.

IttttttssssME · 14/05/2025 18:48

Being in a small office is with a tiny window (view of a brick wall!) and one person deciding to not wear enough deodorant and wearing the same clothes all week so we sit in their nasty smell

I gave up on those bloody Chubb tin shirts not I wear legging material that are shorts and are so comfy

at work I wear trainers all the time so now I have stupid ankle socks on and I look ridiculous with my lovely dress and comfy leggings

My illnesses mean thermoregulation is none existent so anything over 18 and I'm physically sick also my pain levels are poorly controlled in the heat and other medications make me more prone to dehydration and reacting to sunlight. At least in winter I can add layers

LindorDoubleChoc · 14/05/2025 18:59

Flies.
Food going off quicker.
Fewer cooking options.
Clothes that need ironing.
Flies, flies and more flies.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 14/05/2025 19:05

Feeling nauseous weak and dizzy and increased pain levels( have CP)

Yatuway · 14/05/2025 19:10

Flies. I'm very pro insect generally, but not in the kitchen. I have a nice big plant filled garden, stay there!

Bbq1 · 14/05/2025 19:26

People complaining that we've had no summer every Sept, regardless of how hot the summer actually was.

WhatHoJeeves · 14/05/2025 19:28

I'm beyond petrified of spiders and live in the countryside. They all seem to find their way into our house every time we have windows and doors open. I love summer but I'm on high alert all the time.

BeNiceWhenItsFinished · 14/05/2025 19:28

It's only low to mid 20's. That is warm, not hot.

WhatNoRaisins · 14/05/2025 19:33

I actually like this temperature. I'm still comfortable wearing jeans and it's a novelty to be able to sit outside.

feelingbleh · 14/05/2025 20:18

coxesorangepippin · 14/05/2025 20:20

Clothing is an issue, I look thinner in jeans, boots and scarves (vain)

Shaving

The food is...well... Lighter and less interesting

Salads are great, but can become meh

The insects I quite agree they are a pain
being a plus lady the sore places when the weather is hot boobs and thighs
the smell of bbqs and people yelling until late plus their music

Get yourself on TikTok and find PB Fabrics, the lady sells underbust sweatcatchers which can also be used under the tummy. They have bamboo fabric which wicks away the sweat.

Littlemiracles232504 · 14/05/2025 10:34

The washing!!
I LOVE washing and drying on the line, I get so much satisfaction and happiness when I can smell it wafting through the house…BUT… putting it away, urgh fills me with dread

Are you me? I put three washes on. Bedsheet back on the bed. Everything else in a pile

GoKatForDinner · 14/05/2025 20:37

Sweat under my breasts.

Asuitablecat · 14/05/2025 20:38

Having to water the garden when we're on a meter.

My seeds have dried out.

Having to go to work.

Knowing that it will be over before the summer holidays.

Other than that, I love it to bits. Summers have been shit up here for the past few years.

Piratejenny99 · 14/05/2025 10:53

My neighbour who plays his shit music constantly for hours as soon as the sun comes out. Nobody else can enjoy their gardens in peace.

I hate your neighbour and everyone like him.

Amethystanddiamonds · 14/05/2025 20:47

It's touching on warm surely?? Nowhere near hot. I'm currently wearing my oodie and thermal socks 😂

Overtheatlantic · 14/05/2025 20:51

No air con in my office. We have a fan and open windows but I get so lethargic around 2 pm. The best part about hot weather is watching my cat roll over on her back to cool off her bits.

IveGotAnUnusuallyLargePelvisISwear · 14/05/2025 20:59

I really love the weather when it’s like this, it’s pretty much perfect but don’t enjoy when it gets to like 30c or above. However, I hate when I’m already out and about and wearing a skirt or dress and suddenly remember I forgot to put roll on deodorant on my inner thighs to prevent chub rub. I know I’m gonna pay at some point. And I always miss at least one patch of my own skin/forget to reply when applying sun cream to myself. My kids, I’m always careful but me, always fuck it up.

That the aircon in my car isn’t getting fixed until next week!
Although not really a problem as its not actually hot here just nice and warm and I do have windows on my car 😂

Kwikfit do it in half an hour
