Oh no, with the power of mnetting alone, I accidentally manifested a disgruntled derailer. I'm going to work on a lottery ticket now, wish me luck.

....

God, we haven't seen six winning numbers around these parts for some time.

....

I will share my winnings.

Here we go....anyone with a SEND child should be very, very worried. If they can tax SEND kids in Indy schools, who are usually there due to not being able to access support in state schools, then the next step was always going to be attacking SEND kids in state schools.

Yes absolutely. This will be a naked attempt to make EHCP more like the Scottish ‘equivalent’ CSP that far fewer children qualify for and save money. More under the radar cuts.

Upstartled · 16/05/2025 06:45

So the plan is to make ECHP's the preserve of specialist school provision? Leaving children with these sen difficulties in standard schools without a battle plan to help manage those difficulties - and this is supposed to be helpful, how? All while sen schools are wildly oversubscribed?

If I've got that right then it is incredibly spiteful. So the unemployed disabled are being told that the best medicine is work and send children are being told to manage without for the greater good.

Yes whilst at same time forcing more into mainstream and closing those specialist schools! You see the plan?

Upstartled · 16/05/2025 07:03

Is the plan distressed kids, under resourced teachers and mothers giving up work to homeschool kids? Cracking plan.

Am I right in remembering that you're a teacher @twistyizzy?

The plan is to say in 2 years "we have solved the SEND crisis".
Yes qualified teacher but escaped schools as soon as I could and have worked in work based learning ie delivery of Apprenticeships for over 25 years now

Ffs. Did they get this idea from Reform aswell when Farage said that SEND was over diagnosed?
My nd dd is older now, but I feel sorry for the parents and dc still in the thick of it. They must be worried sick.

Oh bollocks, I hadn't thought of anything that delusional or grandiose.

I was just wondering if you had a take on how long it takes from proposing these kind of changes to their implementation but I guess we are in brand new territory now anyway.

I haven’t looked at the detail but this sounds horrendous. What is going on

Most parents aren't aware tbh. Most haven't read the Schools Bill and don't understand the fuss around that.
Every parent with a child in education system should read and digest the Schools Bill and start paying attention to the damage Labour are intending to wreak.

"Inclusion". Equity for all blah blah blah

EasternStandard · 16/05/2025 07:34

If EHCP are not used in ms forget it. The stats people put up here on SEND in ms reflect our school. These are dc who need support and everyone else needs it to be there too.

You're right. I had heard rumblings that changes were coming from other nd parents, but I wasn't fully aware. It will just push more and more families into home schooling. They will be out of mainstream schools then, 'problem' solved.

Except Labour are going after home schoolers too cos they know able parents will pull their kids out of MS into home schooling rather than have them crash in state sector.
Hidden in the Schools Bill is a clause that gives government the right to arrest and charge parents if they refuse to educate their child in the way the government mandate.
That's why there is a march on Sunday against it.

EasternStandard · 16/05/2025 07:39

Why is it so hidden? You’d think some on mn would care. They can’t be that loyal to Labour surely. What you’ve posted is diabolical.

Yep I know but it's sadly true! I honestly wish it wasn't. It is hidden because there would be uproar if the general population knew. So it's hidden and dressed up as something it isn't but the fact remains that it is there. SEND groups are finally waking up to it, they have had heads buried in sand to some extent up until now. Case of "yay Tories out so Laboyr must be better" same as rest of electorate really.
I can 100% guarantee that those fervent Labour supporters would twist the narrative to support them on this.

twistyizzy · 16/05/2025 07:45

With the fight against VAT on school fees I think we've been more switched on in terms of scrutinising Labour and their education policy. We warned this would happen to be fair, not word for word but we could see the direction of travel prior to the election. Obviously we were shouted down etc cos we only cared about our own kids in independent schools and not those in state schools and good old Labour would never make education system worse etc 🙄

It’s nuts atm maybe the polling is getting to people.

The school stuff is really bad. Our school is very inclusive it would almost not function with what is proposed below.

TheNuthatch · 16/05/2025 09:43

I haven't ventured onto the other threads, can't be arsed with it today. It's bonkers. I've read a few of your exchanges though!

I cant link as I buy actual newspapers, but the headlines are pointing to a humiliation for Starmer in Albania yesterday.
The whole press pack were invited to Albania, expecting an Albanian 'hub' to be announced, only for the Albanian PM to outright reject it on stage, next to Starmer.

Starmer was left with announcing a half baked idea about sending migrants to a third country, without having another country to send them to.

Yeh I think you have the right approach there. It’s too bonkers.

Haha at Albanian response I missed that. I respect them for that 😬
