I'll be waiting for an apology after Starmer framed the demand for a national grooming gangs inquiry as far right adjacent. Or from Powell who reduced the concern to a dog whistle now that the government agrees that it is a necessity.

This was such an aggressive and bad-faith portrayal of a significant portion of the population. 76% of the population according to YouGov.

Agree. I was glad to see Trevor Phillips raise this with the chancellor this morning. She said people's hurt feelings are not important. I doubt an apology will be forthcoming. Starmer and co should be ashamed of themselves for their initial response and it will not be forgotten.

@Parsley1234 I'm also cynical. An inquiry has the potential to be hugely damaging for Labour, so I don't trust Starmer in this space.

And doesn’t that reveal how talentless their pr is,
their ability to relate. Hurt feelings = gut feelings and many people vote with their gut
instinct.

EasternStandard · 15/06/2025 10:42

The GE gave them an idea that could lob insults at most of the public. The local elections showed they couldn’t.

I doubt people will forget their earlier stance.

@EasternStandard just depends how much damage they can do between now and then x

EasternStandard · 15/06/2025 13:37

It’s the contempt Labour hold for most of the public that is really something, I hope it bites them back and they’re out.

Parsley1234 · 15/06/2025 17:48

@EasternStandard they are so contemptuous they truly believe their own PR

Upstartled · 15/06/2025 17:54

Yes, Reeves telling the electorate to get over their hurt feelings for being framed as far right by the pm and who was that labour clown yesterday who claimed parents of private school children went 'crying to the courts'.

Contempt and Callousness - maybe that will be their next three word slogan?

Oh really. Just when they couldn’t be more irritating.

Labour clown =Jonathan Hinder

What makes me laugh well not really but RR sister is a Baroness and Rayner is the RT Hon why are they taking these titles if they’re socialist

TheNuthatch · 16/06/2025 19:34

I haven't read it all yet, there's a lot to get through. There are also reports that Dominic Cummings has made allegations that Rotherham council wanted Michael Gove to go to court and help with a cover up.
Done properly, this inquiry will be really damaging for Labour. I'm struggling to trust them. Why would they inflict this on themselves?

National Audit on Group-based Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

Baroness Casey's audit on group-based child sexual exploitation and abuse ('grooming gangs').

Ellie Reeves is married to a peer, hence the title. In any case, she does not use it in public life. Rayner is a current cabinet minister and the title goes with the job. Not sure what is so funny about that.

Parsley1234 · 16/06/2025 19:53

@CinnamonSquirrel because they are the chippiest more undeserving of a title I have ever seen plus they appear so disparaging and disrespectful of this country you’d think they wouldn’t wish to have any title

Upstartled · 16/06/2025 20:21

In her defence, and I have little time for that, she has more claim to the title than her claim of Bank of England economist.

EasternStandard · 16/06/2025 20:30

Labour have been exposed with this report today.

They absolutely got it wrong with covering up with the far right dog whistle stuff.

Neither Reeves' sister nor Rayner were Bank of England economists.

The titles quite simply go with the marriage/job. Not a knighthood. There have been plenty of cabinet ministers of every denomination that you could say the same about.

Hope you're OK? I'm glad Physics is out of the way!

@Parsley1234 don't worry, Starmer pledged to abolish the house of Lords when he was campaigning to be party leader. Oh wait, sorry, he changed his mind about that too.

Yup.
DD is in a lovely mood this evening 🙄. She has had enough. I worked 7am-8pm on site, and now I'm at home walking on eggshells. It will all be over by tomorrow lunchtime.

I'm on the shit list because I made him revise static electricity yesterday because they hadn't bloody covered it in school and then it didn't even come up in the paper. No good deed and all that.
