I haven't ventured onto the other threads, can't be arsed with it today. It's bonkers. I've read a few of your exchanges though!

I cant link as I buy actual newspapers, but the headlines are pointing to a humiliation for Starmer in Albania yesterday.
The whole press pack were invited to Albania, expecting an Albanian 'hub' to be announced, only for the Albanian PM to outright reject it on stage, next to Starmer.

Starmer was left with announcing a half baked idea about sending migrants to a third country, without having another country to send them to.

😁 I bet the press loved that! Looks like they have still generated the column inches for their troubles though. Another own goal.

Government are now desperately briefing out that they are in talks with 9 countries. Perhaps they will ask them privately before inviting the media next time. Amateurs.

What if every country says no?

Except Labour are going after home schoolers too cos they know able parents will pull their kids out of MS into home schooling rather than have them crash in state sector.
Hidden in the Schools Bill is a clause that gives government the right to arrest and charge parents if they refuse to educate their child in the way the government mandate.
That's why there is a march on Sunday against it.

This is the type of the iceberg; I can almost hear the sanctimonious Phillipson telling us, the great unwashed, why we should be grateful for Labour's much-needed "improvements" to our education system.

I honestly wonder how this country will survive these lunatic dictators and what our lives will look like in four years' time.

I wonder if one is...Rwanda?

The schools bill is awful. I knew as soon as they came along with that crap slogan of ‘making mainstream work’ with no meaningful increase in funding that it was aiming to save money. They’re a wretched bunch of charlatans.

reducing a school’s ability to exercise curriculum choice isn’t going to help SEN parents either.

User450877 · 16/05/2025 10:02

Arrest and charge eh? Wow.

Upstartled · 16/05/2025 10:02

I don't think the early school breakfasts can be going down a storm in our school. According to ds, the headmistress never allows an assembly to go by without making another pitch for them.

Well they have had to bring in breakfast "advisors" to push the policy due to its failure so far. So that's paid advisors pushing a shitty 60p breakfast......

Yes, I saw they caught the arsonist. Good. Didn't have a Ukrainian on my bingo card but, there you go.

Yep aimed at home schoolers in particular but worded so could be applied across the board

Sorry, totally got the wrong end of the stick. I thought you were talking about the arsonist at Starmer's door.

Any muppet could have told them that this would be the case. Most parents take pride in doing a good job with their children and resent the implication that they can't manage breakfast. Some parents are utterly neglectful and it's not their priority - and they aren't the ones hopping out of bed early to get kids ready for the early school time.

There's a small population of parents who don't have the resources to provide breakfast and who care deeply about their children and will take their children to these clubs in hope of a breakfast - and those parents and children deserve something better than a cup of rice crispies.

Another 4 years 😬
How much damage can they do in that time eh?

Yep, spot on.
I think I've shared this before, but I used to work at my dc's primary school and did the breakfast club. It was a couple of pounds per child, but importantly, it was free for those in receipt of FSM. The only parents who used the club were those who needed to get to work. None of the families who would have benefited from the free meal ever showed up.

I was laughing at a short with Ana Boulter comparing Starmer to a child's wobbly tooth that is rolling around horribly on a thread that is still too attached to pull out and now it is begining to fester. 😁😁 It's that, for four years, isn't it?

Out of all the stuff the education part is the saddest. I can’t believe there’s nothing on it. Maybe the pay review situation will prompt some attention / backlash if there’s strikes.

Just looking at your link now, the number of people who dislike him is significantly higher than Farage, 69 and 59 respectively.

Is that after island of strangers?

It may well be his island of misery speech, for him that is.

I'm not sure, couldn't find exact dates, others may be able to find it in the article. It just says May.

Looks like the last data point is the 29th April. So it includes the island of strangers and the crash and burn council elections.

Upstartled · 16/05/2025 10:55

Interesting though that Davies only saw a 1% increase in that time, despite doing well at the elections and not really benefitting positively from those who might resent Starmer's new direction and tone on immigration.
