Apologies. No offence was meant; my comment was badly worded and didn't come across in the way I intended. I see it's already been removed.

I reported it. So exactly what we're you trying to say?

I thought the poster was apologising, which is fair enough?

Is it? I'm interested what they were trying to say because their commitment is far from acceptable.

This is really worrying, for him, obviously.

But also it’s been an awful day with all sorts of power cuts and what not.

Upstartled · 12/05/2025 19:57

It's another substation fire. Wasn't that what ground Heathrow just recently?

Thank you. We all fuck up sometimes, me included.

Not this one. The counter-terrorism police are involved

It's awful. Starmer rents out that property now. Lucky nobody was hurt. I hope the police catch the bastards.

What an awful news day today.

Sorry, I meant the disruption with the underground but, in any case, I had my chicken and egg wrong. Apparently an electrical fault caused the substation fire and the underground disruption.

EasternStandard · 12/05/2025 20:32

It is a strange day. Someone mentioned Rishi Sunak on another thread. Starmer is entirely mendacious in comparison.

Upstartled · 12/05/2025 20:36

Interesting article on labourlist that talks clearly about the authenticity problem that Keir has when he talks tough on immigration and how it risks further obliterating whatever trust capital remains between the government and the public.

https://labourlist.org/2025/05/immigration-white-paper-keir-starmer-speech/
It concludes, 'Too often the party sounds calculated, not instinctive. And people can tell'.

Keir Starmer’s speech on immigration today was the most direct signal yet that Labour is preparing to fight the election on tough terrain - and…

I don't think there is any trust capital left. All Starmer has proven is that he lied + continues to lie.

Upstartled · 12/05/2025 20:44

I'd agree with that too. But it is an opinion that at least run counter to other supportive labour quarters where the line seems to be that Keir's new direction is a pragmatic, if unfortunate necessity to pacify the unruly electorate without stopping to think if it will land as intended.

Thanks for the link. That was an interesting read. I have to disagree with the author about Starmer speaking from instinct though. His speech today didn't feel like that to me. It felt choreographed and forced. I've just read a post on another thread, describing Starmer as an empty vessel that can be filled with whatever the wind blows in. I think today's speech was another example of that.

OP posts:
EasternStandard · 12/05/2025 21:07

I think he lacks instinct entirely. And agree with the empty vessel comment.

I honestly don’t know how people can be pro Starmer at this stage. I think a few might have their careers tied to his but beyond that why would you.

Nobody is glossing over anything. The pp was immediately called out. The poster has apologised, and as you can see from other comments on this thread there is very strong sympathy for Starmer, his family, and whomever is renting his house.
We are all capable of saying things that we later regret.

OP posts:
EasternStandard · 12/05/2025 21:59

Out of all the things happening people seem fixated on a post on mn. Look to the PM and those words if you need something that has impact.

Mercurial123 · 12/05/2025 21:59

@PlutoCatexactly it was a disgusting comment.

PlutoCat · 12/05/2025 22:09

One can care about big things and small things. I bet the response from some on this thread would be different if a poster had said something similar about a non-Labour politician.

The poster claimed they worded their post badly, but has not clarified what it is they meant to say.

The pp was immediately called out, by two other posters. Then again by myself when I read the thread. The poster then apologised. How many apologies have you seen on mn? Not many I'll wager.

What exactly are you looking for here? What more do you need?
