Just curious really…

I'm 5'9" and would say that that's the bottom end of tall. I am only very rarely in the company of a taller woman, plus standard length skirts and trousers are usually just a little bit too short.

ShiftySquirrel · 07/05/2025 07:24

I'd say 5ft 7 and over is tall. I'm a couple of inches shorter. The tallest women I know are my goddaughter and her mum, both around 6ft.

Lovelysummerdays · 07/05/2025 07:27

I’d say over 5 9” I’m 5 11” and used to be very tall and now I’m just tall and it’s easy to buy trousers everywhere. Clothes used to be cut for women a good 6” shorter twenty years ago.

When you were younger you may have been thinner and that may have made you look taller
Like the way skinny gangly tall teenagers don’t look as gangly when they fill out a bit

Just a theory

Edited

I'm an average 5'4" but people often say " Oh well you're tall though" when we're talking about clothes etc . It's happened many times. My mums theory is that I'm the only slim one.
My best friend is 5'10".
I would consider anything 5'9" and above to be tall.

ParmaVioletTea · 07/05/2025 07:40

5' 8"

I wish I were (yours, the absolutely average 5' 5" and shrinking)

Kattuccino · 07/05/2025 06:57

I'm 5 ft 5 - women (never men) often comment on how tall I am and are surprised when I tell them my actual height.

Tall to me is over 5ft 7.

Are you slim as well.

I definitely look taller when I’m thinner

DelphiniumBlue · 07/05/2025 07:46

My granny and MiL were both 5’6, and I thought they were tall. Aunt is 6’, that was remarkably tall to the rest of my short family!
I was 5’4, now 5’3, and most of my friends are about the same height within an inch or two.

curious79 · 07/05/2025 07:47

5’10+

im 5’7’ and i feel quite tall around other women sometimes

It all depends on your proportions re trousers. I'm 5'11" and still really struggle with trousers as I'm all leg. Non-tall trousers are also not the right proportion between waistband and crotch, IME.

I think 5'9"+ is probably tall.

I normally only get comments these days if I'm sitting down when I first meet somebody, and then stand up, unfolding my legs! Then it's, 'Oh, you're tall!'

My mum is (was!) only 4'10". I look bloody enormous next to her!

Possibly I do buy tall in jeans. I bought some nice regular length linen blend trousers in Tesco thinking they seemed long enough but I’d probably need to take them back however they fitted really well.

Thirty years ago there’s no chance any regular length trousers would of fit me. I could wear Levi’s as some styles came in a 28 / 34 and long tall sally and that was it, even a top shop tall was a bit short and people would ask whether my cats had died.

Thejugglestruggle · 07/05/2025 08:09

I'm 5'7 and feel on the taller side of average. 5'9 and over is definitely tall to me. Short I'd say is 5'3 and under

lovegoodlovegood · 07/05/2025 08:13

I’m 5ft 10 and always get told I’m tall or (I hate this) “you’re a big girl”
would say 5ft8 and above is tall

BillieEilash · 07/05/2025 08:16

8ft 5+

Fearfulsaints · 07/05/2025 08:18

5ft 8 in this country.

I’m in Scotland and just under 5’10 and have always been considered tall. I rarely meet women taller than me. There are a few exceptions - there are a couple of local women over 6 feet and they feel like giants to me.

anything over 5’8 is tall in Scotland

Agree with this.

When I lived in SE England I wasn’t tall. Comparable height to many women. Shorter than most men.

Now I live in NE Scotland I definitely am. Taller than most women and quite a few men.

Thats at 5’8.

Fifthtimelucky · 07/05/2025 08:27

I’d say 5’8. Anything about 5’10 is very tall.

Butterflytown · 07/05/2025 08:33

I’d say 5’10 and over is tall. I’m 5’11. I was 5’9 by age 11 though and always very tall for my age before that so people always commented on how tall I was and it made me very self conscious. It was a nightmare finding clothes that fit as a teenager in the 90s. People don’t comment on my height as much now, I’m fatter so maybe look less tall! sometimes people who’ve known me a while suddenly say oh yes you’re tall aren’t you as if they’ve just realised. I rarely meet women taller than me, except if I travel to the Netherlands where I feel pretty average height. A lot of my friends are quite short- I know a lot more women who are under 5’6 than over but that might be an age thing (40s). I also think there may be regional differences- I feel like people are generally taller in the south where I now live than where I grew up in the north.

Kattuccino · 07/05/2025 08:37

AngelinaFibres · 07/05/2025 07:42

Yeah I'm slim. I also have long legs (but a very short body) so think my proportions deceive people!

pinkfloralcurtains · 07/05/2025 08:38

Above 170cm

emmatherhino · 07/05/2025 08:42

I'm 5ft 11 and feel like a bloody giant compared to every other woman I know

AlteredStater · 07/05/2025 08:45

I'm just under 5'11" and have always been considered tall or very tall, probably because every other woman I knew was shorter! I think 5'9" plus is tall.

yummyscummymummy01 · 07/05/2025 09:23

I'm 5'6 and have always felt on the tall side of average. Apparently 5'3 is the average height so I think that estimation was about right. So I'd say 5'8 or over is noticeably tall.

THEMUTINEER · 07/05/2025 09:24

over 5ft 7 is tall

my youngest DD is 5ft 9 and she is very tall to me

I am 5ft 3

Simplynotsimple · 07/05/2025 09:31

I’d say over 5’8 but it’s certainly less so these days. I grew up in an area where any woman over 5’4ish was considered tall though, in my family no woman grew over 5’2 so my 5’6 self was always a bit of a bewilderment. I’d have loved to have been taller though despite the comments!
