Just curious really…

OP posts:

5' 8".

JustSoFrustrated · 07/05/2025 02:51

5’8 or taller

RonaldMcDonald · 07/05/2025 04:09

5”10 in 40 or older age group
6 ft in sub 40s

Glitchymn1 · 07/05/2025 04:16

I’m 5ft 6” so I’d say 5ft 9” and above.

MoistVonL · 07/05/2025 04:19

5’8”

@Roxietrees - yes, you are getting shorter. Everyone does. All that nice cushioning tissue in you spine and joints compresses over the years, bone density decreases, muscle loss affecting posture.

Vates · 07/05/2025 04:32

I am just over 5'9" and very rarely come across women taller than me. For me I think of anyone of 6' or above, man or woman, as someone tall. I am at least a few inches taller than all the women in my family and that I know in general.

I’m 5’8” and I’ve started to notice no one calls me tall anymore, I used to get it all the time when I was early 20s. Maybe people are getting taller..or maybe 5’8” just isn’t that tall (or maybe I’m shrinking 😬) I find I’m a little taller than the majority of women I know

same here it’s weird isn’t it tho I think I’ve shrunk was always 5’9 and when last measured was told I was 5’8

What madness is this? I am late 30s and 5’11 and while younger women do seem to be taller than when I was at school, even the 18-25 cohort aren’t much taller than 5’8 or so on average. I would say anything over 5’8 is tall for a woman.

LindorDoubleChoc · 07/05/2025 05:04

People say my DD (24) is tall. Not "very tall" or "remarkably tall" but she has always been considered one of the tall girls all her life. She is 5ft 8.5 inches.

MinnieMountain · 07/05/2025 05:37

5ft 8. I’m 5ft 10.

myladyjane · 07/05/2025 05:50

My dd is a teenager (almost 16) and I think has pretty much stopped growing now. She’s 5’9 and is one of the tallest in her year and in fact the school. Probably less than half a dozen girls taller than her in yr 10 and 11. Appreciate some will have a bit more growing to do but would imagine the majority have stopped by now. She is definitely perceived as tall so I’m quite surprised by people saying 5 ‘10 as a minimum. A good friend of mine and my SIL are the same height and they are always called tall.

mind you my mil is 6’1 at the age of almost 80. That definitely is tall……

TimeForATerf · 07/05/2025 05:55

5ft 7.

I'm 5ft 4, I feel very average, my friends are all similar give or take an inch.

Lyannaa · 07/05/2025 05:56

5ft 7 plus

BlueEyedBogWitch · 07/05/2025 05:57

I’ve been described as tall all my life, at 5ft 7.

I used to feel it, but now my ‘babies’ are 6ft 1 and 6ft 5, I feel very little and a bit dumpy. I’m surrounded by hulking great teens at work, too.

I towered over my birth family, though.

5ft 8 is definitely tall for a woman imho. It may be that people are aware that it’s not polite to comment on people’s looks, whether positively or negatively.

Quornflakegirl · 07/05/2025 06:01

For me 5’9 for a woman is tall. 12 year of DD is already 5’8 so I’m guessing she’s going to be rather tall!

ThePoshUns · 07/05/2025 06:04

5’10” plus

WonderingWanda · 07/05/2025 06:09

I'm 5'9" and I'm usually the tallest one in a friendship group. I'm that tallest women in my family. I don't feel tall but people have always told me I am.

InfoSecInTheCity · 07/05/2025 06:14

I’m 5ft 8 and always amongst the tallest women in any group, I believe the specialist clothing like Long Tall Sally start at 5ft 10.

SardineJam · 07/05/2025 06:15

I'm 5'7, I was in a queue for the bathroom at the theatre recently and felt humongous, both those in front and behind me were significantly shorter - it's been a while since I've felt that tall. In comparison to my friends and colleagues I am the tallest, but not by much.

Historyofwolves · 07/05/2025 06:17

I agree with OP. I'm 5ft10 and this used to feel very tall when I was younger and I had such trouble finding clothes long enough. Now, it doesn't feel freakishly tall - there will normally be other tall women in the room - and clothes are much easier to find. I also really like that younger tall women seem to stand tall and be proud. I always hunched a little!

NewtonsCradle · 07/05/2025 06:17

5'8"

WasherWoman25 · 07/05/2025 06:19

5’8 plus would be tall for me.

I’m the same height as you, I’ve noticed exactly the same thing. People do seem to be taller than they were. There was only one girl as tall as me at my school in the early 80s. My daughter is 5’11, at least four of her friends are almost her height.

I’m just under 5’10 and find it strange when I meet another woman who I can make direct eye contact with!

However, when I was younger people would comment more on my height then than they do now.

Now all I’ll get is people saying “oh that’s a lovely coat/dress, I could never wear that as I’m not tall enough”
