Just curious really…

I think in the UK over 5’7” for women.

One of my DDs is 5’10” and she has difficulty getting clothes that fit. The other is 5’3” and has difficulty as she is very slim. I guess the average is in the middle!

spoonbillstretford · 07/05/2025 06:25

My DM is 5'7" (and shrunk slightly, she's in her mid 80s) but she's still taller than most of the nurses helping her in hospital. Can't help noticing when they help her walk around.

I'm 5'7" and have been described as tall all my life, I think most people would laugh if I said otherwise. However, among my friends from school I was the short one, as they are 5'10"/5'11". And in London I don't feel particularly tall when commuting, but in the rest of the country I do. Living in France as a student in the 1990s, I felt like a giant with massive feet - a shop assistant told me that size 6.5 (40) is more often a man's size 🤔. Among DDs' friends I am average to short. Though DD1 herself is 5'5" - she was quite often the shortest in the class at school. DD2 is 5'10" and was at the opposite end of the scale. (Same dad, DH is 5'11").

I’ve been described as tall all my life, at 5ft 7.

I used to feel it, but now my ‘babies’ are 6ft 1 and 6ft 5, I feel very little and a bit dumpy. I’m surrounded by hulking great teens at work, too.

I towered over my birth family, though.

Yes I think the younger generations are definitely taller. I'm 5'3" and always felt average...I think now I'm considered short. My dsis is a bit taller at 5'5/6"...she was noticeably taller than all the older ladies in our family, to the extent it would be commented on.

Cathbadslongwhitecloak · 07/05/2025 06:41

I am 6ft 2. When I was younger Id say 5ft 8 and above was tall but Id say 5ft 9 and above nowadays. I definitely seen more taller young people these days than you did 20 years ago.

Cloudy15 · 07/05/2025 06:46

5'9'' + probably but I think it is relative.

I'm 5'5'' (was 5'6'') so I would need to really notice that someone was taller than me to consider them tall, likewise with short. I consider myself average height so would need to be 4''+ either side of me to register much. My husband is 5'7'' (was 5'8'') and he seems about the same height to me.

TheaBrandt1 · 07/05/2025 06:47

The model agencies will only accept 5 9 minimum. First thing they do is measure if you are any shorter than that forget it.

Seamond · 07/05/2025 06:48

I'm 5'10" and am taller than a lot of women so 5'10"

Shadowsunray · 07/05/2025 06:51

I'm 5'9, I consider myself tall. It's rare that I meet women that are taller than I am.

BeethovenNinth · 07/05/2025 06:52

I’m in Scotland and just under 5’10 and have always been considered tall. I rarely meet women taller than me. There are a few exceptions - there are a couple of local women over 6 feet and they feel like giants to me.

anything over 5’8 is tall in Scotland

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 07/05/2025 06:53

5'10" is tall.

Perhaps in U.K. people are shorter in general though.

I'm 6'

MyUmberSeal · 07/05/2025 06:53

Over 5 foot 7, I think is tall for a woman.
My best mate is 5 foot 9 with size 8 feet. I feel like a dwarf next to her.

Gundogday · 07/05/2025 06:55

Roxietrees · 07/05/2025 01:03

I’m 5’8” and I’ve started to notice no one calls me tall anymore, I used to get it all the time when I was early 20s. Maybe people are getting taller..or maybe 5’8” just isn’t that tall (or maybe I’m shrinking 😬) I find I’m a little taller than the majority of women I know

That’s so true. I’m a similar height, and always used to be considered on the taller side.

Kattuccino · 07/05/2025 06:57

I'm 5 ft 5 - women (never men) often comment on how tall I am and are surprised when I tell them my actual height.

Tall to me is over 5ft 7.

cuttinganotheronion · 07/05/2025 06:58

I’m 5’11” and only know two women taller than me and one is my sister.

SWsmileyface · 07/05/2025 07:02

I'm 5ft6 which is tall for the women in my family - but I think I'd consider 5ft 8 to be tall for a woman

SwanOfThoseThings · 07/05/2025 07:05

5'8 plus. I think women are getting taller - I'm around 5'3 to 5'4 (seems to vary) which is supposedly average. When I walk past the school bus stop on my way to work, all the teenage girls seem to be much taller than I am!

ArtichokeAardvark · 07/05/2025 07:07

It's all relative - I'm 5ft7 and never felt especially tall until I met my husband's family. He's 5ft9 which is only slightly below average for a man, but FIL is 5ft6 and my SIL is only just on 5ft. I loathe family photographs, I feel like a giant looming over them all. However amongst the women in my own family and friends we're all within a few inches of each other so I never felt like 'the tall one'.

I do however have cousins in America amongst whom the shortest brother is 6ft4...

MargaritaPracticallyCan · 07/05/2025 07:09

I'm 50 and 5ft 10.5. I only tend to get comments about being tall these days when I meet someone in person who I've previously only met on work Teams calls, they seem surprised.
As a teen/early 20s I felt very tall, as people regularly commented, and from men, it wasn't always positively, as if my height was a deliberate attempt to undermine them 😂. I don't feel very tall now, although I don't see many women taller than me.
Lived in the USA for a few years and I felt average height, it felt like there were many more taller women around.

coffeeagogo · 07/05/2025 07:11

Over 5’10 - but I am 6’1 and feel a lot less tall now I’m nearly 50 and both my daughters are taller than me…

Fizbosshoes · 07/05/2025 07:12

Minimili · 07/05/2025 02:28

Personally I think 5 foot 2 is tall because it’s the height “petite clothing” is based on and I’ve love to be tall enough to fit into the clothes without the jeans/trousers dragging on the floor and sleeves covering my hands.
I also imagine I’d be able to reach the top shelf of my fridge, drive any car as I’d be able to reach the pedals and I’d likely have feet that are bigger than a children’s size 13 and be able to wear adult shoes!

Being 4 foot 10 it’s rare I meet any adult the same height and I’ve never met anyone shorter, most of my friends kids were taller then me before they reached 10 years old.

Women over 5 foot 6 seem like giants to me but I don’t often meet women much taller, I notice peoples height a lot!
DP is 5 foot 7 and he said he thinks a woman over 5 foot 8 is tall but he’s probably biased as we are both short arses.

Hello from a fellow shortarse! 👋
I'm 4'10 too. I met someone of the same height at the weekend and it was really nice to have an eye level conversation! I do have 2 friends a similar height to me though.

I consider 5'6+ tall for a woman.
At DDs school , so many of the girls were 5'8" + (she's 5ft 1) I'm sure the average height is taller than 5'4 for younger adults

Parker231 · 07/05/2025 07:13

I’m 5’10 - perfect height imo. DD is the same height. My DSis and DM are 5’8 - seems much shorter.

OuterSpaceCadet · 07/05/2025 07:13

At 5'8" I'm taller than almost all my female friends so I definitely feel tall. I always have to stoop in bars and clubs to hear what they are saying; I can reach the top shelf in the supermarket; I usually can't fit standard range trousers, jumpsuits or swimming costumes and need the tall options. But.....I am not the kind of tall that gets comments or me labelled as 'that tall woman".

itsgettingweird · 07/05/2025 07:14

I’m 5”7.

I would have said 5”6 and above a few decades ago.

Im with others and would say 5”9 now.

I no longer feel as tall as I use too!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 07/05/2025 07:16

About 5’9 or above.

TweetingHurricane · 07/05/2025 07:17

I’m 5ft 7 and don’t feel particularly tall, probably medium?
