Have a wonderful time Cardi very much looking forward to reading all about your adventures ⭐️

This some how slipped past the headlines yesterday -

Thousands more victims of domestic abuse, sexual violence, ‘honour’-based abuse and stalking will have access to specialist support services thanks to a boost of nearly £20 million announced by the Safeguarding Minister today.

Have a great trip Cardi

Vital support for victims in £20 million funding boost

Thousands more victims to access life-saving support through a £19.9 million investment in specialist services.

Another comms own goal. That announcement should have been held back a few days. I despair, it’s like they’re not even trying.

I’m not sure it would make any difference when they made the announcement. The media wouldn’t report anyway. They’re only interested in stuff they can spin badly. If they do report that it’ll be the ‘honour killings’ bit and the spin will be tax payers money being used to support Muslims all over again.

bombastix · 14/05/2025 09:00

Well PMQs is going to be interesting today. I think Badenoch and Farage are seriously on the back foot. Anyway, we will see,

I note that even Mumsnet is asking question about migration and what the PM said. I do think it’s an effective shift away from small boats to much bigger issues of migration.

The fulminating and fury from the Tories still is interesting to me. When Tories say Labour PMs aren’t being Labour etc then usually they are concerned for their own vote. Why would they give a damn otherwise

Yes I read about this. I think the Conservatives are toast

PickAChew · 14/05/2025 09:45

That looks like the sort of operation Samuel Smith's brewery would back. Unless politics is on their banned list, of course.

They could have easily predicated that announcement on “honour killings” and grooming gangs, thus cutting off that approach at the pass. Indeed it would have been sensible to do that. The opportunity was there and the goal was wide open. Either they’re employing the worst comms people in the country or they’re not listening to them. I’d have been fired if I’d been this bad.

DuncinToffee · 14/05/2025 12:31

Hopefully Farage's smirks and congratulations will give Starmer food for thought.

I may be a bit scarce for the next few weeks. I’m off tomorrow to do the last 111k of the Camino Frances to Santiago de Compostela. I’m fundraising for the Dogs’ Home. Not sure how good connectivity will be or how much time I’ll have for keeping up with politics and shit

Enjoy and look after yourself - its hot out there!!!!

Can’t wait to hear all about it when you return.

You’d hope so but the damage is done now. “Island of strangers” will be his political epitaph. To carry the ming vase so carefully for so long then hurl it against the wall once in power is unforgivable.

bombastix · 14/05/2025 12:45

I don’t know. Starmer is at least sane enough to see his party’s political future is connected to Reform and not Badenoch.

Ignoring what Farage represents is a mistake; and discussing what they think is important.

placemats · 14/05/2025 12:48

"Let us be clear what the parties opposite voted against.

Stronger statutory sick pay – they voted against.

The right to guaranteed hours – they voted against.

Protection from unfair dismissal – they voted against.

Stronger protection for pregnant mothers – they voted against.

Insecure work, a package worth £600 pounds to the poorest worker – they voted against."

Starmer PMQs and he's right to highlight this.

DuncinToffee · 14/05/2025 12:49

Badenoch is becoming irrelevant, she was woeful again today. Davey was good.

Yes I agree. There is some commonality with Davey.

Absolutely. Discuss what they think by all means but don’t use their incendiary language.

PandoraSocks · 14/05/2025 13:15

I didn't see PMQs, but did Badenoch really dig up the corpse of a Saatchi and Saatchi Tory slogan? Dear me, she needs to get some new material.

Channeling her wannabe Thatcher.
