How many eggs does your DH or older ds eat as a portion?

DH has just had 5 scrambled eggs for breakfast.
DH and DS18 never have less than 4 eggs as a portion. So I buy a dozen on a shop on a Monday. By weds they’re gone.
we got through 42 eggs last week, me, dd and ds2 had 6 between us.
I think it’s excessive, but wondering if this is now the norm in this high protein era.

2 or 3, depending on what else is being eaten with them.

Wigtopia · 05/05/2025 11:57

We have 5 between us, he will have 3 if doing just for himself, along with a little cheese, spinach and some tomatoes.

4 and 5 does sound like a lot for 1 person! Are they having anything else with it?

TheGreatBugsy · 05/05/2025 11:57

Normally two eggs with three egg whites. I buy the egg whites in cartons.

What did they eat with the eggs?
I eat 2 eggs but often have a couple of chicken sausages or turkey bacon as well.

bigmix · 05/05/2025 11:58

My teenage boys will eat at least 4, especially if scrambling or making an omelette

RosesAndHellebores · 05/05/2025 11:59

Two for.scrambled eggs, three for an omelette. Two.for boiled or poached, 1 with a fry up or in a bacon sandwich.

4 for scrambled egg for one is very piggy imo.

Gemstonebeach · 05/05/2025 12:00

2 eggs here, scambled with toast or in an omelette. Could never eat five eggs, but maybe three!

OatFlatWhiteForMe · 05/05/2025 12:00

We buy 24 a week, 36 if planning to bake.

DS and DH eat 4 or 5 at a time scrambled with bacon or 3 boiled with toast.

LittleBearPad · 05/05/2025 12:02

Did they have toast with it? What else will they eat today?

It sounds excessive to me

Lund · 05/05/2025 12:03

DS, 14, regularly scrambles 6 for breakfast! We go through a lot of eggs in this house..

CatsorDogsrule · 05/05/2025 12:06

My DH and 14yr old non-sporty DS will have a regular 2 each. I usually have 1 or 2.

15 and 21 year old sporty sons will easily have 6 each scrambled. I've even witnessed 8 once.

They are very fit, play football, basketball, martial arts, and weight train.

Both have with toast and one also often adds a whole tin of beans.

Thankfully there are a few neighbours in our village that sell eggs in case we run out.

CreationNat1on · 05/05/2025 12:06

Omg, anything more than 3 is A LOT!!!

MeganM3 · 05/05/2025 12:06

3 usually.

Are they overweight or into fitness? Eggs are so good for you I wouldn’t worry at all if they’re in good shape.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 05/05/2025 12:09

Two.

More than 3 seems massive to me.

SouthLondonMum22 · 05/05/2025 12:10

DH and I eat the same for scrambled eggs - 3.

HaddyAbrams · 05/05/2025 12:11

Usually 2. Possibly 3 in an omelette, I don't actually know.

Bjorkdidit · 05/05/2025 12:12

CreationNat1on · 05/05/2025 12:06

Omg, anything more than 3 is A LOT!!!

Seriously? 4 eggs is about 300 calories, so quite a small meal.

I have 2 to 3 a time, DP usually 4. There's only 2 of us and we eat af least 2 dozen eggs a week, which I can't get worked up about and I'm not surprised the OP keeps running out of eggs.

They're healthy, easy to cook and relatively low cost. Think what they could be eating if they weren't filling up on eggs.

verycloakanddaggers · 05/05/2025 12:12

2-3.

IAmTheLogLady · 05/05/2025 12:13

I have 3 in scrambled or an omelette. 2 if they're boiled poached or fried.
Are they doing this before physical activity?
Cam you afford it ?

ErrolTheDragon · 05/05/2025 12:13

2 for breakfast or lunch, 3 for dinner. But that would be with other things.

mindutopia · 05/05/2025 12:13

Depends on what it is, but I’d say 1-3. 1-2 if a fried egg on toast, 2-3 if scrambled or an omelette.

We have chickens so get our own eggs, and we have plenty to sell, so definitely don’t get through that many. That’s a huge portion unless they are eating nothing else.

EleanorReally · 05/05/2025 12:14

if i make scrambled eggs for 2 i use 2 eggs each, i could use 5 eggs between 2 i spose

EleanorReally · 05/05/2025 12:15

i use 2 for an omelette also

Muchtoomuchtodo · 05/05/2025 12:15

DS1 has 4 boiled eggs as a snack an hour or so before going to the gym! With 2 teenage boys in the house we get through at least 3 dozen eggs a week, usually nearer 4 dozen!

Seems like every five minutes the opinion on whether dietary cholesterol is bad for you changes. Wish I knew for sure...
