Watching it now. I'm not religious - but it is a fascinating watch and a beautiful setting.

But he is kosher

He's Atheist. His wife and children are Jewish.

He rose from the dead.

This riposte was pretty good.

Re Trump I just noticed in one clip how many leaders were trying to shake his hand. And that he got front row seats after all.

Calliopespa · 26/04/2025 16:21

Also, was it not actually JD Vance who criticised Zelensky on his clothing. I seem to think Trump was kind of mumbling that he liked Zelensky’s style.

The Catholic Church is never going to budge on womens role within the church is it! Hard to spot a single woman among the red and purple. Though I suppose they were there in spirit as indicated by the impeccably ironed outfits. Unless wielding an iron is a prerequisite skill for entry into the priesthood. Sorry if this is seen as disrespectful, but those arial shots of the mourners really brought it home to me, they didn’t even seem to have put together a covey of nuns.

I thought the Pope mobile procession through the streets was very moving, I somehow felt that many people were there for personal reasons to honour a man for whom they had a very real affection above their respect for him as pope.

At St `Mary Major, it was very noticeable that the only females present were those two little girls who brought flowers.

He rose from the dead.

Then he's probably turning in his office chair... or maybe his pew if he's attending the service.

@Calliopespa actually your sort of correct there, trump had perhaps inappropriate mentioned his clothes good or bad I mean would you comment on macrons suit however it wasn't him who made the disparaging remarks on it

That’s just his face-the rest of him is, presumably!

I'm thinking of reporting your post. That's a really horrific image of the rest of his skin that you have conjured up. You could have at least included a trigger warning.

Nominative · 26/04/2025 16:23

The fact that Trump wasn't struck down by a bolt of lightning seems to me proof positive that there is no god.

Not at that point.

Interesting that the womens dress code is long black dress and veil. Did all the women wear the Mantilla? I know Melania did.

Trump’s blue suit looks very out of place.

I thought this- odd choice when he must own a black one!

The pomp, the costumes, the idolatry, the expense...
Jesus must be turning in his grave.

Actually He ascended into heaven

That's the whole tenet of Christianity

No. Sabina Coyne, wife of the Irish president, Michael D. Higgins, looked to be wearing a hat but she was all in black. She was the only one I recognised but there were other women wearing hats.

The crowds applauded Zelensky when they saw him on the screens. Wonder if they did the same for Trump.

I heard the gentle ripple of applause for Zelensky.

You have missed my point.
Jesus had a lot to say about churches and appropriate ways of worship.

Yes and actually I wish the wisecrackers would take their anti-Christian “ jokes” to another thread.

Their opinions are their business but on a thread about the funeral of the Pope it’s just poor taste. I mean if there was ever a time for respect …

Have a read of Ecclesiastes.
Jesus (pure human) was a visionary philosopher but he knew how things could get completely out of hand if 'ordinary ' men were left to make stuff up.

DelphineFox · 26/04/2025 16:45

Prince George and William wore navy to Queen Elizabeth's funeral. It's a normal colour to wear to a funeral isn't it? I wore it to my dh's

That's because William was in RAF uniform.

Well I think he never knew about the churches of many denominations which came after him, but of course, if he is God then he is omnipotent.
The only bit I could find was the episode with the money changers in the Temple, which I assume was a synagogue.

I'm not sure what your point is. What stuff being "made up" are you referring to?
