Watching it now. I'm not religious - but it is a fascinating watch and a beautiful setting.

Yes, his wedding took place the day after the pope's funeral.
He was Prince of Wales then and went as a representative of the Queen.
The monarch does not attend papal funerals. Now he's the monarch he doesn't attend and the Prince of Wales went in his place.

But he is kosher

It wouldn't surprise me if Trump thinks he is immortal! Dreadful person and why the blue suit? Another "look at me" gesture I reckon. I am not religious but in the highly unlikely event I had been invited to the the Pope's funeral I would have respected tradition and worn head to toe black.

I think the real difference is it being the army doing it, and selecting the men so they were all the same height and it being the Pope's personal aides.
The army will also have had it rehearsed to death.

Other theory on the blue suit is that, like the time Biden met the Pope, he crapped his pants and had to go off and change suits. He might have only had the one black suit with him so had to wear this blue one…

I still have my school mantilla.
As a lapsed Catholic I found it very moving.
I enjoyed the Homily, especially the spontaneous applause.

I’m not his greatest supporter but I can’t find fun in just making stuff up. Other people stuck out too, and there were lots of obviously blue suits. It was clearly acceptable to wear blue.

Some photos of William’s suit look quite blue too - especially against his black tie - yet he looked perfectly ok.

Trump doesn’t like anyone not agreeing with him so I think this was a deliberate act of disrespect and defiance. I’ll do whatever I want because I am Trump!

And yet the other dark blue suits on show were unaffected by this screen brightness issue and looked dark. It was deliberate.

So why was William in a blue suit?

Defiance?

As I say, I quite like William, Trump less so from the relatively little I actually know of him; but I’m not going to get swept away with made up negativity.

ETA do people really think that if Trump suffers from any kind of bowel or bladder incontinence he wouldn’t travel to this kind of function with spare suits in whatever was the perfect colour? I mean I would stretch to that and I’m just little ‘ol me. I can’t picture Don and Melanie standing forlornly in the White House saying “ Well we’ve packed the black one; we’ll just have to settle for the blue in case of an accident .”

Similarly, had he wanted to do defiance, I think he could have dug deeper and found something more obvious than a blue suit.

It was a different blue. Why do people keep talking like we couldn’t all see it? Trump’s was noticeably lighter in colour so that it stood out. That’s the only reason I noticed it - it made him stand out from everyone else I could see. I’m pretty sure that was its purpose.

The Vatican put out a dress code. Trump wasn’t even wearing a black tie. He was definitely trying to make a thing of it.
Melanie obviously read the dress code ….. 👏

His suit was a very dark navy. I saw him talking to an official who was wearing black, and it didn't look much different.
Nicely cut, good fit, white shirt, dark tie, polished black shoes. 👍

The pomp, the costumes, the idolatry, the expense...

But I do think people are looking to criticise.

I took this photo from the Irish Times. It is a perfectly suitable shade of blue for a funeral. It's not navy but it's a dark blue. I've also added william from the Belfast telegraph. There isn't a huge difference in shade. Trump's is marginally lighter but there isn't much in it.

I agree. They both look fine. Trump stood out because he’s got the sort of looks that do stand out. To begin with few other men had his hair colour.

He rose from the dead.

And his skin colour isn't exactly in the normal range for people.

Well that wasn’t all on display. If it had been, I’d be agreeing he looked inappropriately dressed for a papal funeral.

But I thought he looked fine, behaved well.
