So how do I live in the female gender?

1000 replies

Definitelynamechanged123 · 18/04/2025 14:28

There are 8834 people in the UK who have a Gender Recognition Certificate.
I am one of them.

To get it, I had to show evidence of transition, surgery etc. Lots of hoops

I also had to swear a Statutory Declaration. I had to go to a Magistrates Court and swear a legal declaration in front of a magistrate. It was all very formal.

I had to swear this:

" have lived as a (insert ‘male’ or ‘female’ as appropriate)
throughout the period of years before the date of this statutory
declaration and I intend to live in that gender until death."

This declaration is legally binding. Apparently if I don't follow this, I can be done for perjury.

So...how do I live as a female and live in that gender until death - I have sworn to do this in front of a magistrate.

I was very surprised that so few trans people have Gender Recognition Certificates.

@CalicoPusscat Some females are born with XY chromosomes. It's called Swyer syndrome. Their bodies develop as female though.

Pihrd · 18/04/2025 15:29

You sound like you know that it’s a meaningless piece of paper and you’re a man with body dysmorphia. You also sound like you know that living in a gender is a load of complete and utter bullshit and always was.

It’s what I expect everyone knows deep down.

It's not this person's fault you've experienced difficulties as a woman, so stop taking it out on them fgs. That's just life, if someone wants to transition that's up to them.

Did you miss the bit where the OP started this thread and posed the question himself?

Living in constant fear of male violence, maybe? Which transwomen definitely do too.

The whole human race lives in fear of male violence. It’s not a biological woman’s duty to care for and make a safe space for male kind whatever their personal struggles are.

Pluvia · 18/04/2025 15:28

Just because you've had your balls removed, take estrogen and maybe have grown boobs it does not make you a woman.
You have XX chromosomes and that's all there is to it.

Ahem. XY. (I know, I know, it's easy to get muddled).

Oops! Thanks Slip on the keyboard :)

borntobequiet · 18/04/2025 15:29

I’m surprised that you’ve only just thought of this, given that the GRA was passed in 2004.

But in answer to your question, what everyone else has said.

It's no wonder Ocado don't want their advertising on here is it?

Gender stereotypes hurt everyone trans or not, women are being removed from single sex bathrooms for "looking like a man". Discrimination hurts everyone.

Ocado have apologised to mumsnet.

All the women I know who you might say look like a man more accurately look like women who look like men if that makes sense?

In the same way you might say someone has a pixie face, or “looks like an Oompa Loompa”… you can tell they aren’t actually pixies or Oompa Loompas.

You can generally tell that women who look like men are still women.

And you can generally tell men who are trying to look like women are really men.

fiorenza · 18/04/2025 15:30

It seems an odd place to be posing these questions, rhetorical or otherwise...

TBH, I am just going to keep on living my life how I want.

Who knows if that's living as male or a female.

That's all anyone can do.

I hope you find peace within.

Stating biological facts that are material to the lives of women isn’t transphobic. I’m sure you could find something better to do than trawling Mumsnet to scold us all for our non compliance to your ideology.

Shut down debate with insults and threats, just as TRAs tried to do for years
Didn't work did it?

huggiebears · 18/04/2025 15:31

If you need to ask then how can you be female? most females are just the adult version of the little girls they used to be they just transitioned into teenagers went through puberty and are now women.

Guys they are spoiling for a fight on here, let’s not lower ourselves to their level.

Trying to provoke a reaction.

NessieDoesExistYes · 18/04/2025 15:32

There is no thing as female gender.

There are women.
There are men.

Their sex is biological.

You are a man, you've had surgery and take hormones.
It doesn't make you a woman.

Your appearance has changed. But you are a man.

Sorry.

Without gender stereotypes, gender ideology cannot exist. How else can a male claim to be a woman without resorting to ‘feelings’ and personal beliefs?

ruffler45 · 18/04/2025 15:33

You have been lead astray and lied to by people who had an agenda

Sunshineandoranges · 18/04/2025 15:33

You are a trans female. Your sex cannot be female but your gender is. Life has obviously been difficult for you but you are a brave woman ( ok trans woman if we have to be precise in our wording).

Indeed. We don't live AS women - we just live and are women. All the trappings which so men trans-identifying men seem to think make them into women - clothes, make-up, hairstyles, nails, shoes, behaviour - many of us just don't have or do these things. And those women who do have long hair, wear make-up, etc all know perfectly well they don't HAVE to and are perfectly happy when they are in their joggies and un made-up.

I had to swear a Statutory Declaration in front of a magistrate which is legally binding.

So breaking it would mean I had lied to the court. Which is perjury.

But what would breaking it mean.

According to some people, I've already broken it by posting on here - and that's stereotypicallly male - so clearly behaving as a male. So I could get jailed for 7 years.

No you did not

Good. So you don’t need other people to admire the Emperor’s new clothes or a certificate to say that he has new clothes, do you?

Firstly Ocado have apologised and I imagine a lot of organisations will be flinging themseleves off the bandwagon with amazing speed.
As for women being removed from Womens toilets (NOT BLOODY BATHROOMS) for looking like a man - the only time that happens is when someone is conveniently filming it

WallaceinAnderland · 18/04/2025 15:35

The whole 'swearing in court' was just a pantomime. No one really believes that humans can change sex.

No one can live in a female gender because there is no such thing in reality.

Being female just means being of the female sex. There is no performance required.
