Likewise, they were titles with no information to go with them, but you do you. I can see this thread is full of mainly far right idiots. Bye bye, don't let the door hit you on 'my' way out!

I think you got that the wrong way round but ok bye

Starmer needs to sack her. Yet another Labour Party disaster. Totally unacceptable. Disgusting statements she’s made.

As usual Labour excels in hating women. Especially white working class girls in this instance.

Powell isn’t bothered about the Pakistani / Asian child rapist male adults.

The fact 12yr old girls were turning up at home covered in bite marks and with knickers full of semen. Apparently a little trumpet. A dog whistle.

We see you Labour. Labour are the Nasty party.

Cuts to disability benefits, removal of heating allowance for pensioners, tax on education, and above all hatred of women and girls. That’s the Labour Party of today.

Sooner they’ve gone the better. It may well take a coalition but I’d sooner have that than this lying hypocritical group of champagne socialists.

Hear hear 👏

Sir Keir Starmer is facing fresh pressure from his Labour MPs to reverse cuts to the winter fuel allowance after the government’s welfare decisions were partly blamed for the party’s setbacks in Thursday’s local elections.

The removal of the winter fuel subsidy from 10mn pensioners was a key reason voters told Labour activists they would not support the party in the run-up to last week’s elections, MPs and party figures said.

The policy, which limits the up to £300-a-year benefit to only the poorest pensioners, was announced just weeks after Labour took power last year. Labour MPs and party figures said the move, along with a more recent decision to cut disability benefits, had contributed to the party losing in some of its traditional heartlands to Nigel Farage’s Reform UK.

Some have privately predicted that Starmer will be forced into a partial U-turn on the winter fuel cuts before the end of the year.

Have you watched the C4 documentary? It's sickening, but worth it if you're brave enough.

I need to watch this. Lucie Powell is another disgrace who needs to resign.
This has reminded me of poor Charlene Downes as well - I can't believe it's 22 years since she disappeared.

Powell showed her true colours.

What a vicious POW.

Mr Streeting said: “She’s also human. I’ve made mistakes in the past, I’m sure I’m going to make mistakes in the future.’

Lucy Connolly jailed for 31 months for a subsequently deleted Facebook post was not afforded the same understanding.

Welcome to the thread 👋.

God yes, that poor girl in Blackpool. I remember it well. The documentary left me in tears. DH only made it half way through and had to leave the room. How anyone can react the way Lucy Powell did is beyond me.

Absolutely sickening isn't it.

Bluebellwood129 · 04/05/2025 22:21

@TheNuthatch* *Thank you. Powell's comments are even more disgusting given her constituency is Central Manchester, so she's well aware of the strength of feeling about this.

EasternStandard · 04/05/2025 22:41

I think many are just fed up with the hypocrisy. It really is galling.

Yep. Given her constituency, she's also fully aware that it's still happening. So too is Rayner.

I watched it yesterday, cannot believe how those poor girls were treated and some of them still haven't got justice all these years later. Absolutely disgraceful.

The conservative government did nothing, now Labour are doing nothing. It's shameful. This issue is very close to my heart because of where I grew up. I try not to rant on here about it, but have added my thoughts to another thread. Thank you for watching it budgie 💐

The pieces are beginning to fall, aren’t they?

These are the direct consequences from the policies of an incompetent, spiteful, ideological, nepotistic ‘administration’. The swing to the right follows the playbook of other countries who would seek to silence the real wishes of the majority.

Last summer’s GE was a clear protest vote against the Tories, not one FOR Labour.

It’s going to be a volatile period - politically, and economically. Let’s hope it does not result in civil unrest, but I would not bet against that at this juncture.

EasternStandard · 05/05/2025 10:31

TheNuthatch · 05/05/2025 10:08

Watching this unravel is not surprising. Pre GE and seeing Labour’s pledges it was kind of all there.

One of my main concerns as Labour's performance and policies start to really impact, in terms of unemployment and high taxes, is the possibility of civil unrest.

Those who actively seek to orchestrate it will find many willing to support them as time goes on and poverty becomes a reality for some sections of society - people who no longer have anything to lose through no fault of their own.

I absolutely agree with you.

Some people are suffering real hardship, I am sure. It will be interesting to see if this Government are as willing to deploy the full force of the law and the judiciary, as they were last summer. I genuinely believe that many people are approaching some kind of breaking point.

Starmer's India trade deal will make it cheaper for companies to employ Indian workers than British workers. Oh dear.

So, if they hire Indian workers then they won't pay NI and if they hire anyone else they will be paying more NI contributions as per Rachel Reeves' budget. Bloody hell.

Is Starmer on glue?

Any easing of visa restrictions would logically result in an increase in the supply of labour, depressing wage growth.

Why has GDP/capita and average wages have been flat for so many years? India has huge unemployment rates, and ~3% of GDP is made up of remittances. Sending people abroad is an undeniable boon for them, and will be a drain on the UK.

This will be a further tangible step towards a Reform-led government.

TheNuthatch · 06/05/2025 18:13

I'm actually speechless. What the fuck were they thinking!
