Thanks to @JoshLymanSwagger for the thread title.

Trump, Vance and Musk are building a bigly bridge across the Bering Strait...
...and creating a gaping chasm in the Atlantic.

Kind hearts are more than coronets, and simple faith than Norman blood.

I know it’s likely coincidental but another airline accident has happened! This time a plane caught fire on the tarmac in Colorado after an engine failed. Don’t think I’d be going anywhere near an airliner in the US at the moment!

There have been so many US air incidents. What is going on?

Goldenbear · 14/03/2025 07:50

Goodness, appears very unsafe.

Igotjelly · 14/03/2025 08:00

I wonder if they’re just being reported on more or whether there has in fact been an increase.

BestIsWest · 14/03/2025 08:05

Thank goodness everyone got off safely. Only minor injuries reported as far as I can see.

Interesting listen to TRIP US this morning. They’re trying to look at positives though the pessimist one thinks they might be too optimistic!

Things like apparently the White House switchboard was jammed on Monday with CEOs and big donors apoplectic about the fall in the stock market and the tariff situation.

Also that they think DOGE (and Elon) will be gone by summer, which will be spun as “it’s done its job”.

Finally a name has sort of surfaced on the Democratic side. He’s doing all the TV shows telling everyone he’s not going to run for President (so we know what that means!) - the inspiration behind your namesake @JoshLymanSwagger - Rahm Emanuel.

Did you see what happened at Columbia University Residences yesterday?

I couldn’t help but be reminded of this again, and not in a good way. I find this rapid dismantling of civilization and people’s rights absolutely terrifying.

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

SerendipityJane · 14/03/2025 10:12

Brexits ultimate failure is already proving to be the fact that it's now "done" and it's getting harder for the loons to pursue it. Even Farage has disowned it.

And regardless of the truth, most people associate Brexit 2016, not 2020. Especially since one of the Brexiteer tropes was that the world didn't collapse in 2016. But that means we are now approaching it's 10th anniversary. Which casts it as more of a failure if such a thing were possible.

I didn't think at this point in time it would be possible for the Dems to come up with a candidate that could get me to stay home on election day, but if he gets the nomination (he won't) they will have succeeded.

Do they not understand what fresh new voice means?

I think this also.

Did anyone see that clip of Musk being interviewed on Fox and being asked how he juggled his businesses alongside what he's doing with Trump. It was painful. He paused, he mumbled, he looked downhearted and then said 'with great difficulty'.

If the animosity everywhere towards Musk continues and Tesla stock carries on falling, I think he will just fuck off in a few months. Depending on who decides he goes (Trumpy or him) he will remain quiet for a short while, then actually show some resentment and start tweeting negatively about the Administration.

Obviously I haven't a clue what I'm talking about but you never know...

user9876543211 · 14/03/2025 10:21

I don't think it matters much if DOGE goes. The damage is already done and there's no will or ability to rebuild what they've ruined. Unless and until the Republican Party becomes a functioning part of a democratic system, there's no coming back. When the 'for the people' part of serving in government is gone, there's not much hope.

Feeling a bit gloomy at the moment.

PerkingFaintly · 14/03/2025 10:29

Well, yes, because it has.

Musk (the unregulated guy who has personal phone calls with Putin) has already had the opportunity to download the vast majority of US citizen's personal data, and to install whatever he wanted on the government systems holding it.

As yet we don't know what he's done. But that's not something that will just be over if DOGE goes.

PerkingFaintly · 14/03/2025 10:29

And what @user9876543211 said.

PerkingFaintly · 14/03/2025 10:40

Brexits ultimate failure is already proving to be the fact that it's now "done" and it's getting harder for the loons to pursue it. Even Farage has disowned it.

I think this is a misunderstanding. Last I heard, Farage was still milking Brexit.

He's shifted from
"Brexit will solve all your woes. It's the Elite (who I'm definitely not one of, oh no not at all) who are blocking you from receiving your just entitlement and fulfilling your rightful dreams,"
to
"Brexit has failed to deliver. The Elite deliberately did it wrong to block you from from receiving your just entitlement and fulfilling your rightful dreams."

I think it's important to grasp that this is the modus operandi of Farage, Trump, MAGA, etc.

Nothing is ever their fault. When they make bad things happen to their voters, Farage et al don't experience that as a threat but as a welcome opportunity to blame and stoke up fury against their enemies.

They play everything both ways.

The good news is Farage appears to be on the decline. The ongoing Reform spat is consuming his image and the chatter of a new Musk-funded UK Nazi party will only dilute the fascist vote further. Even if we don't see a new party, the tensions within Reform are costing it appeal.

Remember it's not inflation, it's just rising prices ? It's not rejoining, it's just becoming a member of the single market and customs union.

And being able to charge VAT on private schools is a clear Brexit win for me.

BustingBaoBun · 14/03/2025 11:22

Reform are fighting like rats in a sack. And the US has gone off Fartage bigly.

His constituents are still standing by him, and one a committed Christian says he is doing a good job and would pray for him WTAF......

He should re-watch how the original Nazis acted at Nuremburg. No one likes a wimp.
