I've been reading about this message but haven't seen it - I use a VPN though because it keeps the Mad McAfee at bay.

Woken up this morning to the news that Trump has withdrawn all American aid with immediate effect.

BIossomtoes · 04/03/2025 07:35

And he accuses Zelenskyy of starting a third world war …

Same here.
I'm appalled.

PickAChew · 04/03/2025 07:35

Never saw thst coming.

Notonthestairs · 04/03/2025 07:53

Somewhere somebody will suggest this is a proportionate response to Zelensky not wearing a suit.

Llttledrummergirl · 04/03/2025 07:56

I have n words. Ignorant fucker doesn't get anywhere near.
I'm equally as fucking angry with those in America standing by and letting this happen. They claim to be a friend to Europe, but when push comes to shove, they are happy to walk away without a second glance.

That there are no dissenting voices, particularly from leading Democrats tells me this isn't just a MAGA/ Trump issue, the whole lot would happily have sold us out in their turn if they chose.

From the BBC:

"We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution," the official says."

Which is slightly different.

itsgettingweird · 04/03/2025 07:58

PickAChew · 04/03/2025 07:35

Never saw thst coming.

Me neither.

I NEVER thought I would see the day since the last 2 world wars where a country will withdraw support to another unless they relinquish land to people who illegally invaded.

For a start that sets a dangerous precedent.

However it does concern me about a trumps plans. He's talked about taking land. Maybe he can only invade Greenland if he justifies what a Putins doing?

Notonthestairs · 04/03/2025 08:00

What do you think that means?

I think it means sign a "peace agreement" on the terms Russia has worked out.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 04/03/2025 08:01

Well he's gifted Ukraine to Putin. I'm sure the backhanders and business deals the loathsome orange bastard receives will make it worth his while.

cakeorwine · 04/03/2025 08:01

It's the 80th Anniversary of the end of the WW2 in Europe in a few months time.

Clearly Russia was very important in that - as was the US and its Allies.

I wonder how that will be celebrated officially.

And it's the 80th Anniversary of the end of WW2 in Japan - where the US and its Allies worked together to defeat Japan after its attack on Pearl Harbour and Asia.

It's going to serve as a reminder as to what happened and there are going to be some speeches such as "Never again", "Strong Allies" - and a reminder of how we worked together as Allies.

Notonthestairs · 04/03/2025 08:02

I suspect Greenland was sewn up weeks ago - Trump & Putin had their 1-2-1 chat after the inauguration. I don't suppose there is a record of that.

itsgettingweird · 04/03/2025 08:06

Ds has just come in and said apparently the money and weapons Ukraine was receiving was passed through congress and a president can't call to stop that - only congress can - so watch this space!

cakeorwine · 04/03/2025 08:07

I just read a post somewhere that has made me think;

"Normalcy Bias" - the bias that everything is normal and to keep carrying on as if everything is normal, despite massive warning signs that it isn't normal - if I was in the USA now and I had the ability, I would seriously be thinking about moving elsewhere.

And European Leaders need to wake up to the fact that this is not normal, that we rely too much on the USA, even our planes are made in the USA and we need to become self reliant.

Should we even be sharing intelligence with them?

This is NOT normal

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 04/03/2025 08:11

One of the biggest issues will now be that regarding cyber security. If the US is no longer seen as an ally or as a trusted cyber partner, then how can we trust our data to sit in US company owned data centres?
We removed Hwawei kit from our infrastructure in the past because of cyber threat. But how on earth would Europe move away from Microsoft?

I can’t see Trump letting a little thing like that get in his way. The man’s a megalomaniac, he’s going to do exactly as he likes - or Putin tells him - for the next four years.

Llttledrummergirl · 04/03/2025 08:24

I keep thinking I've fallen into a very long running, Derren Brown stunt. Has the World really gone this much to shit?

Fucking Trump, Fucking MAGA.

Edited

Let alone Amazon Warehouse Services or even Oracle.

Labour have gone up slightly in latest voting poll by yougov. Starmer must be happy with that.

I don’t suppose he cares or has even noticed. He’s a bit busy carrying his new Ming vase.

Notonthestairs · 04/03/2025 08:46

I do think the Government must be concerned now about how we share security data with the US. Our systems are quite intertwined. I am not going to pretend I understand how it works or the checks and balances - but I imagine it was conceived and developed on the basis our interests were aligned.

Seems as though Trump has smashed the illusion of America being the leaders of the free world

Notonthestairs · 04/03/2025 09:08

A general election is years away. I appreciate we all got hooked on polling in the run up to the last GE but for now Westminster intention isnt particularly important.

Unless what you are suggesting what I think you are suggesting is that Starmer is talking with EU leaders and Canada for show.
