A general election is years away. I appreciate we all got hooked on polling in the run up to the last GE but for now Westminster intention isnt particularly important.

Unless what you are suggesting what I think you are suggesting is that Starmer is talking with EU leaders and Canada for show.

Well not exactly suggesting that. However it's clear Labour have not had the best start, and are maybe running scared of reform? Without US backing what realistically can we achieve?

I think Farage and Co. are may be destoying themselves with their sympathetic stance to Trump.and Putin.

From the BBC:

"We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution," the official says."

Which is slightly different.

My guess is it will be unpaused if Zelenskyy steps down.

Precisely.

I guess that depends on how this plays out.

DuncinToffee · 04/03/2025 09:42

Flipper, this is what happened last time Trump paused aid

New name is my guess.

I suppose some Reform voters probably are quite troubled by Farage's positioning and polling.

A regular reminder that the US and UK pledged support to Ukraine in exchange for them getting rid of their nuclear weapons. Reform voters are all about sovereignty.

DuncinToffee · 04/03/2025 09:49

Russian sovereignty

How do you see it playing out?

No idea. A negotiated deal thats pleases Trump and Putin?

That wouldn’t be a negotiated deal. It would be giving Putin exactly what he wants which is license to invade bits of Europe whenever he fancies. No European leader is going to sign up for that.

I'd change that to a deal that favours Trump and Putin. The latter won't go down so well with some of the less far right Reform supporters and Farage will have a tricky time juggling his rhetoric around it all.

Eta: amended as Blossomtoes is right, such a deal could not be called "negotiated". But I think Ukraine might be forced into it.

How will they stop it?

DuncinToffee · 04/03/2025 10:03

So fuck Ukraine basically

Can you even hear yourself siding with Russia?

When did I side with Russia?

It wouldn’t be a negotiated deal if they didn’t sign up, would it? 🙄

Flippercanorious · 04/03/2025 10:05

I was asked how I saw this playing out. My answer was what I think the most likely scenario is.

A negotiated deal between Russia and the US. I dont think anyone else gets a say

No negotiation would be necessary if the US and Russia stitched it up. Putin’s calling the shots, he says ‘Jump’ and Trump asks ‘How high?’.

Flippercanorious · 04/03/2025 10:13

Well perhaps negotiation is too strong a term. But I don't think it's Putin all the way
