Try walking down the street with a person with visible disabilities, you are guaranteed to witness the worst of humanity, the sneers, the sideway glances, the whispered or not so whispered comments.
The way some people speak to you as though you are stupid because obviously you must have caught the stupid.

Fortunately these people are usually in the minority but bloody hell they are vocal on here. This correlates a little, as it's usually the well dressed apparent high earners that do this in my experience.

SerendipityJane · 20/03/2025 08:55

As far as I can see women and the disabled have lost out these past decades. A bitter pill for someone born of a mother who drank deep of the well of social revolution of the 60s. If I believed in a deity, I can believe that their removing my DMs mind before taking her to their bosom was the ultimate kindness. At least she was spared some of the sights of that progress being wiped away so easily.

Anyway, here's the next step. They don't even need to commission an artist. And ChatGPT can translate it for the English speaking worlds.

Not quite proof, but notice the amount of thought given to less able residents (clue: 0%). This is the news for the able folk in society.

I have now hidden 23 disability bashing threads in the last couple of weeks.

I don't mind telling you that I was in tears last night (yes lurkers, laugh I don't care). I was going to leave MN, but why should I?

(I wonder if the poster who thought Labour was leaking lies to the press will be back to acknowledge how wrong they were and how bad all this actually is).

Oh, absolutely. Ds2's disability is neurological but he's bouncy, loud and twitchy and, while most people take it in their stride, we've been subject to some abuse, over the years. I realised years ago that I have no fucks left to give. I think the turning point was the man who started swearing at us when DS2 was stressed and becoming vocal on a busy bus, stuck in traffic and my politeness filter turned off, in response and I pointed out that he had been noisily slurping sweets for the past 20 minutes.

It's easy for me to scroll past those threads but it still shocks me how vile people can be.

I’m happy to say that many news outlets have commented on the briefing done by Labour. Including by the BBC on-air in the coverage leading up to Kendall’s statement.

That doesn’t mean that what has been announced isn’t hard to stomach by those affected.

But Labour didn’t freeze PIP, which was a measure briefed out originally.

I said quite clearly on this thread that welfare payments would have to be cut in the face of economic problems and defence imperatives. And I also said very clearly that the most vulnerable should always be protected.

(I’ve not posted on here for a bit because emotions are clearly raw, and I had been attacked by an unpleasant fool who I just couldn’t be bothered with. The fool wasn’t you, of course, or any other name I recognise.)

DuncinToffee · 20/03/2025 09:29

You were called out, not attacked.

And you need to read the room rather than just 'keep us on our toes' for the sake of it.

No, I wasn’t ‘called out’.

I would have been happy to point out that the attack on me was stupid, weird and cult-like - as if being critical of Labour is morally reprehensible and shameful - but I couldn’t be arsed to get into a fight with a fool.

PandoraSox · 20/03/2025 09:34

Rummly. You said Labour was deliberately briefing lies about the cuts to the press in order that the reality would seem more palatable. You called us stupid (in so many words) if we didn't realise that.

The only rumoured cut that didn't transpire ws freezing PIP. You were wrong and this is a disaster for disabled people.

Anyway, I thought you would not admit that you were wrong. You have satisfied my curiosity. Thanks.

DuncinToffee · 20/03/2025 09:35

As I said, you give out but can't take it.

All I can say is that that’s wrong. Nobody’s suggested that no unpalatable changes would be made. What I said, and stand by, is that the strongest changes briefed about wouldn’t happen. They haven’t.

I repeat: that doesn’t mean that what has been announced isn’t difficult for some, possibly many.

Yea. This.
I've seen this attitude first hand. Being othered is an extra burden on top of what mental/physical fuckery you are dealing with.

This is absolutely hilarious.

Russell Brand shares fake redacted file claiming that Penelope Keith shot JFK.

Clearly didn't read it.

Mind you, it's no madder than some of the other theories.

Deleted as I can't be bothered arguing through toss. It is a lovely spring day, am going to go out with my scrounger husband and spend his PIP on fripperies.

I saw that. It was so funny. Brand is such a knobhead and thinks he is so much cleverer than us mere mortals.

All of a sudden, the 1960s make sense.

Have you seen the clips of him and Neil Oliver on a loonytunes roadtrip ?

Sadly it proves that there really are two people that stupid. And rather annoyingly they are often seen in the same room together.

@SerendipityJane Thanks for posting a copy of the letter you sent to your MP. My MP is quite Left Wing but I've used the text of your letter to send a similar one to him.
