@SerendipityJane it was a very similar thing that I shared on Facebook, I didn’t feel it was even political really, we can all see that it’s a double standard to judge one person for not wearing a suit and not another.

Notonthestairs · 03/03/2025 14:30

It wouldn't have mattered what Zelensky wore. It didn't actually matter what he said.
Trump and Putin's interests are aligned. Trump wants to lever Russia away from China. He's trading Europe for Taiwan.

& sovereignty only matters to the likes of Farage if he & his friends can profit from it.

Elodie09 · 03/03/2025 14:43

@PandoraSox Thanks for the post regarding Lech Walesa's
condemnation of Trump and Vance's bullying behaviour in the White House on Friday
It was a horrible watch.
Trump was golfing on sunday and Vance was skiing apparently, while Sir Keir was working extremely hard to save our western democracy .

That is quite worrying @Evenstar , especially when it's unlike her usual self.

This is thread on the body language of that interview, maybe it helps with some arguments?

Wow thanks for this. Fascinating.

And I can actually pay the cat tax now - the old girl came and sat by me on her favourite cushion. We tell her it says World's Best Cat, not World's Best Mum. I think we got away with it.

Diplomacy, buying time?

Keir Starmer in the commons:

“We will never choose between either side of the Atlantic. If anything, the past week has shown that that idea is totally unserious.

“Because while some people may enjoy the simplicity of taking a side, this week has shown with total clarity that the US is vital...”

More from Starmer"

We must use the process of getting to 3% of our national income spent on defence to fundamentally rebuild British industry- use our investment in military spending to create new jobs and apprenticeships in every part of the country."

DuncinToffee · 03/03/2025 16:20

Unity in the house, great to see

With the exception of

Starmer, in reply to Farage in the Commons: "Can I just remind him that Russia is the aggressor. Zelensky is a war leader whose country has been invaded. And we should all be supporting him and not fawning over Putin."

Lovely lambs, @derxa 😍are they triplets? Even DS2 looked at them with a smile and he runs away from the cat pics!

So Farage turned up ?

DuncinToffee · 03/03/2025 16:45

Yes, mumbling something about brexit benefits as well 😅

Yes triplets. There is something innately adorable about newborn lambs. They smell lovely as well.

@derxa that little family looks adorable. I remember dropping my ds1 to a local small farm in lambing season when he trying to get experience with lambing as part of the vet application process. He went on to do a lot more while he was at university.

Amazing display of solidarity. When Cleverly said Starmer hadn’t put a foot wrong over the weekend I was blown away. I haven’t ever seen our politicians so united. It underscores just how incredibly dangerous the world is right now.

Good to see Farage being squeezed out too.

Notonthestairs · 03/03/2025 18:01

"Diplomacy, buying time?"

I think it's probably a bit of both - not wanting to raise the temperature or give an excuse for others to do so.

Maybe there is some hope that Trump's course could alter although I don't believe it. State of the Union tomorrow. I suspect he'll confirm withdrawal of some US troops from Europe. He said in January he was going to withdraw about 20% of troops stationed.

If I'm not here tomorrow, then the nagging ad message has got me (even though I don't even have an adblocker on this PC).

Good luck.

I've had the ad blocker notice as well on my laptop. Have no idea how it got there and how to disable it. Am able to post via my phone.
