I dunno what I'm starting this thread for, tbh. I just really, really felt like I wanted to click a button saying I support Zelensky and reject Trump and Putin tonight.

OP posts:

@LaurieFairyCake I've not seen pro putin comments at all?
I've seen people saying at this stage in the war which is bedded in , I've seen posters wondering whether there is a different way around this now and unfortunately that doesn't include trump deriding putin. Trumps relationship with putin is the leverage.
That's all.
Who wouldn't back zelensky?

cassie2and2 · 01/03/2025 07:15

Is it suprising that Ukrainian people don't want to be run by two despots.
Good on you President Zalensky for standing your ground in a room full of bullies.
As for you Trump, didn't your mother tell you to treat your guest with respect,
your neither a genuine president and definately not a gentleman.

MikeRafone · 01/03/2025 07:16

the analogy as I see it

mexico invades and takes tucson and California, Europe supports US for a while but then says - actually your not grateful enough. Let Mexico have those 2 states and Europe must have all the oil in Texas

if you you don’t agree to this, then you don’t want peace

MikeRafone · 01/03/2025 07:17

You’re not your

Westfacing · 01/03/2025 07:18

Zelensky has his faults but my goodness he's been leading a country at war for the past three years and shown more bravery than the two US bullies.

Let's not forget Zelensky was offered safe passage out by Biden but he chose to stay and lead and not abandon his people.

Lucoad · 01/03/2025 07:20

Zelenskyy, the whole you didn’t thank us, he’s thanked many times.

Also berating him like he’s the problem, while sucking up to putin, USA has lost its way.

wizzywig · 01/03/2025 07:21

How zelensky held his composure I do not know. He dealt with that vile bullying with grace.
How dare trump and Vance treat an equal as if they were a naughty child!
Trump wants his name attached to ending the war, doesn't care that putin will renege on any agreement.

Martymcfly24 · 01/03/2025 07:21

Diplomacy, statemanship, honour: all those words are out the window with those two playground bullies.

There must be a motive for their stupidity, why would they sabotage a deal by deriding and embarrassing a man known for his pride and one that has spent 3 years fighting for his country.

It must be so they can say he scuppered a deal and allow their bff Putin to do what he wants.
CNN had a very good article of the 32 times he has thanked the US for their support, the last one being Thursday.

And as for the comment about the suit.

MikeRafone · 01/03/2025 07:22

Ii think the tv showing of the meeting, with Russian journalists present, was a set up - goading Zelensky & it hit a nerve with trump when Zelensky suggested Putin might turn on US

MikeRafone · 01/03/2025 07:24

trump wants mineral wealth out of Ukraine and that’s what Zelensky wouldn’t sign over

TeenToTwenties · 01/03/2025 07:24

I'm pro Ukraine.

However according to DD's RE GCSE a war has to be Just Cause, Proportionate, and Winnable.

At the moment unless Ukraine gets considerably more support it doesn't appear winnable.

Escalating is dangerous for Europe and beyond. Letting Putin 'win' is similarly dangerous.

The best thing would be for someone in Russia to assassinate Putin, and the new leader to make peace. But that's unlikely to happen.

SleepQuest33 · 01/03/2025 07:26

ssd · 28/02/2025 20:19

You really dont need a poll for this.
Anyone who still supports trump and vance really needs to be put in a room and the key thrown away.

This!

mostlymisty · 01/03/2025 07:26

I had to walk out of the room. I could not listen to it all. What immoral, bullying, power loving sick people Trump and Vance revealed themselves to be, right out in plain sight.

Zelensky is a leader who stayed with his country to fight, when he could have fled. We all know that if Trump or Vance were in that situation they would have been on the first flight out.

To hear them demanding gratitude, when they should be supporting Ukraine to stop a power hungry, land grabbing dictator, was just utterly sickening.

What truly awful people.

You are assuming the person coming after Putin would not be the same or worse

According to some ( western) commentators, Putin is actuallly holding back people more war mongering than himself.

Westfacing · 01/03/2025 07:28

No doubt a set-up, with the cameras allowed to be in there so long - usually it's just the initial formalities as with Starmer and Macron.

And Trump going on about Biden, Putin and Hunter Biden's laptop, which relates to Trump's first run for office eight years ago.

Quite a spectacle and 'great television' as Trump said.

Conspiracy theorists don’t. The conspiracy theorists I know support Putin and think he is a strong leader. They don’t like Zelensky.

Conspiracy theorists love a dictator.

noblegiraffe · 28/02/2025 20:24

Oh mate I think the division between Zelensky and Putin happened when Putin illegally invaded Ukraine, not when I created this poll.

And maybe Russia invaded Ukraine when a comedian became president, employed his comedy programme set crew as government and got rid of all the Ukrainian Oligarchs putting their country at huge risk.

It was clearly a really daft and dangerous move.

MoanerLeeSir · 01/03/2025 07:39

MeganCarter · 28/02/2025 20:21

this is a divisive poll when in reality a rapprochement is necessary

Seriously?

mostlymisty · 01/03/2025 07:41

RainbowZebraWarrior · 28/02/2025 21:12

The only good thing to come out of the shit show that happened in the Oval Office today is that Ukraine and Zelenskyy will receive even more support. Against Putin, against Trump and against this whole horrendous and frightening far right trend.

Not really, they need military aid and USA is a key ally there.

No one else can fill that gap.

This isn’t just about humiliation of one man, this is about Ukraine being abandoned.

cassie2and2 · 01/03/2025 07:42

looks like trump has surrounded himself with a load of moron arse lickers

TwoRobins · 01/03/2025 07:43

noblegiraffe · 28/02/2025 20:20

I think thrashing out of deals normally happens behind the scenes between diplomats and then they wheel the politicians in for the final handshakes. This was a deliberate public humiliation.

Yes.

JackJarvisEsq · 01/03/2025 07:43

anyone hear the prick of a journalist pulling Zelenskyy up about his lack of suit?

really focussing on the issues of the day there

He's Marjorie Taylor Greene’s boyfriend, which explains why he's such an asshat. I suspect he won't be asking Elon why he didn't wear a proper suit in the Oval Office, despite that apparently being a major problem for him, people not wearing suits in the Oval

ThankyouBakedP0tato · 01/03/2025 07:48

halfpastten · 01/03/2025 01:44

It is worth watching the whole thing, always. It starts with Vance talking about the need for diplomacy, then Zalensky interrupting him to school him on how diplomacy doesn't work, cease fires are a waste of time and asking Vance what he knows as he's never been to Ukraine. It was arrogant and rude tbf. Then it really kicks off and moves into the retaliatory spat, which was also unhinged. But really without diplomacy and a ceasefire what do we have, endless killing? Personally the side I'm on is the 100s of thousands of young men on both sides being fed into the meat grinder. It needs to stop.

I agree

bigvig · 01/03/2025 07:48

I don't back either but neither am I a fence sitter. I think both the US and Russia started this war and the Ukrainian people are caught in the crossfire. I think Biden was after Ukrainian minerals just as much as Trump. Trump is just open about it.

What I do support is an end to the fighting. This could have happened 1 month after the conflict started. The same peace deal was on the table then as in on the table now.

All those warmongers arguing to keep fighting what you mean is - fight to the last Ukrainian. If I was in Ukraine I'd want peace and I'd want Zelensky out - he's cancelled elections banned rhe right to strike, banned speaking in the Russian language in some parts in the East, brought in marshal law and aligned himself with actual Nazis. I'm not sure how anyone can stand with Zelensky.
