I dunno what I'm starting this thread for, tbh. I just really, really felt like I wanted to click a button saying I support Zelensky and reject Trump and Putin tonight.

And this was @ThejoyofNC 's response to that.

Because that's all it deserves.

So basically you can't answer the question

"If we back off and allow Russia to win this bit in Ukraine, do you think that ends Russia's war? Do you think that's where Putin's ambitions end?"

The whole thing was designed to rile Zelenskyy up enough that he looked unreasonable on camera. And, if they couldn't achieve that, then to plant ideas in the viewer's heads (such as 'you never thanked us') so that when Trump and co abandon Ukraine, the US public go along with it.

It mostly worked - though Zelenskyy was clearly not as easily riled as they hoped he would be.

The truth is Trunp hates Zelensky because he is everything Trump will never be and he makes Trump feel how small and petty he really is. Narcissists don't like being unmasked in front of an audience.

As for Vance I'm starting to wonder if Russia directly funded his campaign.

But isn't this just performative politics? Banging out a tweet is easy. What does support actually look like? Because there's been precious little of that. No-one wants to get involved because it means that the phoney bit has ended and we're in full blown all out world war. Every single country in the West knows this. The war is unwinnable. Our politicians can stand in front of lecterns all they like and puff their chests out in support, but a step further means combat.

After Iraq and Afghanistan in recent memory, I doubt there will be many people in support of sending their sons and daughters to fight from Britain.

Tell that to Trump, Vance, and Musk. They’re the ones that need lessons in how to comport themselves on the world stage. A quick flick through ‘Diplomacy for Dummies’ might give them some pointers.

Put in and Trump are hand in glove, they've obviously do e a deal already!

As the parent of a teenage boy who would no doubt be enlisted in the army if this comes to world war 3, I want peace.
We have a friend married to a Ukrainian. They are from the east, in the part that was coloured red on the map when this whole fiasco started. Some of their family consider themselves Russian and welcomed Putins advances at least at the start, I suspect once the bombs started they may have changed their tune…this conflict has its roots going back centuries, and I don’t really see why we, about like the Isle of Wight on the world wide scale have to go getting involved. We have enough home grown problems to deal with without getting our sons sent to die in someone else’s war. Whatever brings peace quickest is what I vote for.

This war is unwinnable. Russia has a population of about 75 million men.
Ukraine has about 19 million, UK has about 25 million.

We could send all the men from the UK and Ukraine to their deaths and, if they killed each other man for man, Russia would still have 30 million men left.

I get providing aid and help is a stress factor but Ukraine have suffered greatly at the hands of a hungry dictator. I don’t buy the propaganda, I think P & T struck a deal prior to T’s run for president and he’s following through.

I also think T is an unwell man.

I miss him; he was great.

I think there should be a cease fire, I don’t agree that Trump is on Putin’s side, he just wants the war to be over and an agreement with both sides. Unfortunately Zelensky spoke as if Americans weren’t giving Ukrainian help with weapons and intelligence. So realistically that is probably going to end.

Ukraine has been invaded.
