I saw the Hibs fans singing Sunshine on Leith after beating Celtic yesterday. I was bawling my eyes out. That song makes me cry every single time. And it's a happy song!! What song gets you every time?

ABBA Slipping Through My Fingers

Me too. Breaks my heart thinking of my adult children being small. I miss that part of my life so much.

Ken Dodd's

'When I poke my Tickling Stick in your Eye
Tears for souvenirs will feel rather like a stye.'

The scientist - Coldplay.
Played at my friends funeral when we were 16 and I haven’t been able to listen to it in full for the past 18 years.

A little fall of rain from les mis

Diamonds by Rihanna. Reminds me of a gorgeous little boy from my school who died of meningitis in his sleep one night. Devastating loss for everyone.

Don't Cry Daddy - Elvis Presley
Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinead O'Connor
Let Her Down Easy - Terence Trent D'Arby
Ooh Child - The Five Stairsteps

I would not say I bawl but in the right frame of mind I would.

ThankyouBakedP0tato · 23/02/2025 20:40

Taken by Trees version of Sweet Child of Mine

GingerTeaCup · 23/02/2025 20:42

Changes by black sabbath. And nothing else matters by Metallica. Both have me sobbing! And Don’t Cry by guns and roses

loobylou10 · 23/02/2025 20:43

Advertising space by Robbie Williams
'Waiting for god to end this, up to your neck in darkness'
Was playing when I was sat with my wonderful dad in his last hours. Makes me sad still 17 years later

Busted- Good One

Released in 2023 and I swear it's such a good funeral song, but also really upbeat!

‘When She Loved Me’ from Toy Story. Heard it in town yesterday playing from a funfare ride. It took me straight back to when my girls were little and I had a little tear in my eye. Had to get a grip!

MaidOfSteel · 23/02/2025 20:55

I’m Still Waiting by Diana Ross.

EleanorReally · 23/02/2025 20:56

oh yes Abba, my Love my life

Tortielady · 23/02/2025 20:57

Many of those already mentioned plus:

Candles - Chris Rea (almost as much as Tell Me There's A Heaven)
Johnny Cash's cover of If You Could Read My Mind. Gordon Lightfoot's original is exquisite and lovely, but Cash's is so full of pain it's unbearable.
Toy Soldiers - Martika's Kitchen
Empty Chairs - Don McLean (even more than Vincent.)
Winner Takes It All - Abba
First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - various. Roberta Flack, Gordon Lightfoot and the Stereophonics all did it beautifully.
Strange Fruit - various. I don't know whether this one makes me want to cry or throw things. Probably both.
So In Love - especially k.d. lang's cover from the Red, Hot and Blue album. Well worth watching the video while you listen.

Everything I own- Bread. Utterly heartbreaking.

Seasons in the sun

Ordinary miracle - it was the sound track of Charlotte’s Web, which I used to watch with my daughter when she was younger. It’s such a nostalgic song of a simpler time…and of course, Charlotte dying.
